Answered by Chronos. The story was she was born phenotypically female but is chromosomally male. A real condition. Not transgender but some of those kids then raised female do have gender dysphoria.
No they weren’t (other than CairoCarol). That’s kind of my point. They were just repeating other bigoted rumours, making dad jokes about rectal insertions, and doing cod-folklore studies.
They absolutely were, in exactly the same measure you calling me a girl as an insult was calling out internalized misogyny.
chef’s kiss
I wasn’t calling out internalized misogyny, the original meme was.
I was calling out your clear need to be considered one of the cool kids.

Right. By derogatorily comparing me to a woman.
Bravura! What a performance!
making dad jokes about rectal insertions
Ah, that’s the schoolboy humor to which you are referring. I forgot this was the thread where I posted that. First you said it was juvenile; now you call it a “dad joke”. You can’t even keep your insults straight. What it wasn’t, however, was homophobic. You seem to see homophobia wherever you look. If someone so much as discusses a fossilized rumor, they are perpetuating homophobia in your eyes. Insult me all you like, perhaps you can refer to me as a girl next, but your point is still stupid.
No, it isn’t. Your theory includes the ludicrous idea that people that discuss the ridiculousness of the rumor are continuing to perpetuate it by simply discussing how stupid the rumor was in the first place.
That actually does perpetuate the rumor. He’s not wrong about that. What i feel he missed, or discounted, was that the entire context of the discussion was about how these things were bigoted. It started with a poster being called out for making a transphobic comment, and that reminded posters of the bizarre homophobic rumors of their youth.
That actually does perpetuate the rumor. He’s not wrong about that.
I think he is. It’s like saying making fun of the tales spun by Salem Puritans perpetrates a belief in witchcraft.

That is exactly my point.
for making a transphobic comment
Was the comment transphobic? Idiotic fer sure. Probably begun, oh fortyish years ago, as part of very restrictive standards is the minds of some of what a female star should look like and present (Katherine Hepburn getting the similar treatment with rumors regarding sexual orientation based on appearance and presentation). A bigoted concept for female presentation in Hollywood. And no one’s business.
But if someone was intersex? Chromosomally XY with androgen insensitivity so phenotypically female? Which can be complete or partial; some having ambiguous genitalia at birth, in the old days surgically made to fit one or the other early based on what there was to work with, and diagnosed at birth. I’m not getting how those speculations were transphobic.
Yes there are higher rates of gender dysphoria in these populations relative to the general population, but most chromosomally XY individuals who are phenotypically female and raised female are comfortably identified as female.
Thinking: presents in a manner not conforming to stereotypical female movie star; not having biological children; gender neutral name = intersex! Is DUMB. Is sexist. Is ignorant. But I don’t see transphobia.
perpetrates a belief in witchcraft.
“Perpetuates”
Is DUMB. Is sexist. Is ignorant. But I don’t see transphobia.
Try connecting a few dots.
None so blind…
There’s “transphobia” as narrowly defined as “distaste for people w gender dysphoria.”
What the world needs, and does not have, is a well-reasoned fully agreed etymologically valid umbrella term for “Squicked out about anything / everything that’s not pure cishet absolute binary.”
Whether any of us like it or not, “transphobia” has become that unbrella term in most people’s vocabularies.
Trying to differentiate between the narrow and wide definitions amounts to salami-slicing.

Conservative.
The universe of dumb, sexist, and ignorant contains the set of transphobic but is not equal to the set of transphobic. I don’t even see those dots connected as “Squicked out about anything / everything that’s not pure cishet absolute binary.” … it is exclusively stupid sexist imaginings of what cishet absolute binary is “supposed” to look like.
Conservative.
Not quite. Incomprehensible as it seems, there are conservative LGBTQ folks, just as there are super-conservative Blacks, women, and members of other groups who ought to know better. Think Log Cabin Republicans.
Makes no sense, I know. But hardly anything makes sense these days.
Seems to me, nowadays you can’t find two or three people who are like minded, fully.
I think if you can meet a preset list in agreement you can talk and get along.
When the cult takes em tho’ it will be a long hard fight if you ever succeed in seeing eye to eye.
