What will you do if Trump wins in November?

I am a UK citizen and my wife is a US citizen, so we have right of residence in both countries.
And in fact we own a house in each country. But I doubt if we will be spending much time in the US if Trump get in again (which unfortunately looks increasingly likely)…

I’m a 63yo married white male. So I don’t have any cross hairs on me… yet.

I suspect Trump and the GOP will try to get rid of Medicare and/or raise retirement age to 70 for retirement funds. Probably try to get rid of Social Security altogether so that Trump and his inner circle can raid it (that, thankfully, really won’t affect me or my wife).

He may pardon all the Jan 6 insurrectionists. I wonder what that would do? It could give Trump 400 or so ‘Lieutenants’ to lead other groups similar to the Proud Boys and Oath keepers. As much of a joke as these cults are, they can do real harm.

We love to travel, but don’t want to move to another country. Though if Trump skates, and is elected, I have very little hope for the USA.

Our best hope is that the GOP crumbles under the weight of it’s own bullshit. Oh, I’ll fight as best as I can, but protests don’t seem to do jack, might get you thrown in jail though.

The same thing I did today, or when he was President 7 years ago , or 10 years before that. Go to work, to school, or take a vacation.

I don’t like Trump either. But his election as a sign of the apocalypse is way overblown. We’re fine now, and we’ll be fine then.

He plans to have the US Army shoot demonstrators. He did once ask, “Can’t you shoot them in the legs?” so it might be amputation rather than death.
Like a couple of others in this thread, I am an old white guy in a red state, so I’ll get by. I won’t protest, for sure.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

At least I’m going to make sure I am armed and trained in case the MAGA assholes come after me. I’m not going down without a fight.

I’m a weird Jewish woman with a history of being outspoken. If they get to the point where they can get away with shooting demonstrators, they’re liable to come shoot me eventually anyway.

If you feel safe even if the official government starts shooting dissidents – you may be low on the list, but I doubt you’re as safe as you think.

The only defense against governments that shoot demonstrators is to have a huge number of demonstrators show up.

…with many cameras on live feed.

Ayup.

And maybe some little old white-looking ladies like me in the front row.

Worry.

And fervently hope that two things I think are true really are:

  1. That Trump is ultimately too stupid to be a successful dictator; and
  2. That the MAGAns are a bunch of yahoo riffraff too undisciplined to actually be an effective paramilitary force like the S.A. Brownshirts were.

:+1:

And be a victim of his foreign policy? I’d want to be as close to that crazy bastard as possible.

Over one million Americans no longer able to tell you we weren’t fine then shows we weren’t fine then.

I seem to recall the SA weren’t all that disciplined at the outset. (Or am I confusing them with another group under the same murderous dictator Tan the Conman adores?)

Salient point, that.

I hear this so often, from people who doubtless are going to be fine. That’s nice.

Honest question. Where are the gulags and concentration camps?

You may be right on point #1 (although Hitler was not particularly bright either, watch out for the ambitious liutenants!), but the SA brownshirts were a bunch of undisciplined yahoo riffraff and still quite effective in their way.
As for me? I would (pretend) to welcome our new Muscovite overlords here in Berlin and build up a secret bunker. I would (will?) try to go down with a spectacular fight. I am not optimistic at all, and quite pissed at the idiots that will be responsible for this megatons of shit hitting the supersonic fan.
When I look out my window I see and regret every day the consequences of Nazi rule: there are old buildings here and there, and new buildings in between. The new buildings (uglier, smaller) are where the old buildings were bombed away. Our society is poorer for what they did.
It will be the same again, only worse.

We don’t want to get there.

The way to avoid getting there is not to pretend that’s not where the road’s going.

The Tea party did not go away. It morphed into the MAGAts.

In 2016, my wife and I were talking about moving to the US (all our kids live there), but decided to wait till the election. My wife has started that again (because of growing anti-semitism in Quebec–or maybe it is simply becoming more open) but I will not even think about it till after the election. The fact that all kids and grandkids are dual citizens means maybe they will want to move here. Their spouses aren’t, but I think they can get resident cards very easily.

We did, actually, for a while.

Mississippi.

Stalin was so dumb there was a famine in Georgia because he forgot to allocate food to the region, and guys were too frightened to remind him.
