What would be the "Nerd Anthem"?

…Y’know, the “Ode to Joy” for Nerds and Geeks?

I’ve heard “You Can’t Handle This” by Five Iron Frenzy suggested for this purpose.

And I, personally, feel I should recommend “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears, for some reason—probably because of it’s use in Real Genius and *Pirates of Silicon Valley*.

So…any other takers?

She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby

“In the Garage” by Weezer, of course…

There’s always “Weird Science.”

Whatever that song was that the boys did in Revenge of the Nerds

“… with Poindexter on the violin/Lewis and Gilbert will be joining in …”

Revenge of the nerds by The Roobinoos anyone?

Something by Devo… “Through Being Cool,” “Whip It,” “Smart Patrol,” “Devo Corporate Anthem,” “Uncontrollable Urge,” and their version of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” would ll do nicely.

In fact, they’d even all do nicely.

“My Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades” by timbuk3.
Or anything by Oingo Boingo.

“Underground” by Ben Folds Five.

Opening lines:

I was never cool in school
I’m sure you don’t remember me
And now it’s been 10 years I’m still wondering who to be
And I’d love to mix in circles, cliques, and social coteries

I think it’d have to be a selection from the William Shatner/Leonard Nimoy album. I mean, they’re the gods of dorkdom!

“It’s hip to be square” by Huey Lewis

Subdivisions by Rush?

“Homo Jocko” by Devo

Are we not men? We are Devo,
Are we not men? We are Devo,
Are we not men? We are Devo,
Are we not men? We are Devo.

Or, “It’s All About the Pentiums”, Weird Al: this would do nicely for the computer nerd sub-section of Nerdom.

“It’s Great to be a Nerd” by the Canadian group Arrogant Worms

It’s great to be a Nerd, It’s great to be a Nerd,
The only light we ever see is from our monitor

We argue about comic books and Internet connections
The biggest highlight of the year is the Star Trek Convention
Our Town’s not big enough to sign up any stars
But we once met a red shirt who was phased by a Borg

It’s great to be a Nerd, It’s great to be a Nerd,
We wear our Star Trek uniforms and talk like Captain Kirk

We have our own heroes, who we try to emulate,
I dream of one day being as sexy as Bill Gates
We hate watching sports 'cause we’re reading Carl Sagan
But we’d watch the Olympics if they played Dungeons and Dragons

I’m A hobbit!

It’s great to be a Nerd, It’s great to be a Nerd,
We think Tolkien was a genius and Shakespeare was a turd

We rarely get a date, or get talked to by a girl
Unless they’re having trouble with their Algebra homework
Were emotionally bereft and sexually frustrated
But we can download photographs of Agent Scully naked

(Nerdish Laugh)

It’s great to be a Nerd, It’s great to be a Nerd,
We know the truth is out there but we’d have to leave our room

We are the nerds in your neighborhood
Polyester’s a fashion statement
But there’s more room on the beach for you
'Cause we’re locked in our basement

It’s great to be a Nerd, It’s great to be a Nerd,
We like to wear colors that do not appear in nature

It’s great to be a poorly dressed
Fashionless
Star Treking
Role Playing
90 Pound
When Wet Down
Pasty Skin
Pop Drinking
Underfed Genius
Yes, It’s great to be a Nerd,

No way, man. All these pale in comparison to the “You Got the Touch” song from Transformers: The Movie. Every geek I know (including my own personal geek, my fiance) was moved to tears by that song in the movie.

For us ex-80s arcade junkies then it’s got to be Pac Man Fever.

If you want a Devo song I would use Beautiful World.

Or Turning Japanese.

Look@hergo! I hope those are not the complete lyrics to that song.

The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins by Leonard Nimoy.

Although I know so many geeks that would like it to be One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces or Underground by the Ben Folds Five…
