What Would Tony Do?

Tony Soprano that is.

OK so Tony and da guys are hanging out at the Badda Bing and learn that a shipment of fifty shoulder-fired missiles is coming through one of their ports in 'Jersey.

As Americans (and residents of the New York megaplex) allowing this to happen is not an option.

Should (would they) wack a buncha guys or go to the Feds? What could or would the Feds do for Tony?

After all the guy is a killer, but this is a case of national importance. What COULD they do for him?

Seeing that the issue of patriotism does extend to things like Columbus Day, and that there are some things worth getting a little dirt on the hands for, I suspect the crew would find a way to drop some clues to the feds while preserving their raison d’etre, namely to score a little cash as part of the deal. Not necessarily a big reward, but enough to make the deal a profitable one for the feds and the crew.

It might take the form of a back-channel, multi-phased arrangement whereby Uncle Junior gets to carry the ball, or else Janice finds a way to slip the data through her next New Age experiment, or even AJ or Meadow get to allow the data into their school project.

Or, best yet, Carmela manages to let it slip in confession that somebody on the block got wind of the deal and has a desire to connect with the feds without getting their name(s) in the papers. Father Phil gets a nice dish of capicola for his intercessionary troubles.

I have been noodling it over.

If Tony arranged a meet with the FBI Guy, Tony could spill his guts. Hands would be shaken. Everyone would go away.

Later if or when Tony is up on charges the FBI Guy would be called to testify he was a major help in the investigation. Alternativly, he could get lucky. The FBI wouldn’t want it to get out that TOny helped them and would offer a reduced sentence.

But I only have Season One on DVD here.

Dang, I was all set to say what Tony Danza would do. I think I will anyway.

He’d probably strut up to the bad guys, say “Hey-o, oh-ay,” a few times, then knock them out with his boxing training. Then he’d make an ommlette (or a bad movie, whichever is easier) and take a nap.

Paul in Saudi, does that mean you only have the one season to draw from? You really owe it to yourself to get up to speed (DVD’s or VHS’s) by early 2004 when the new season starts. HBO’s been reshowing the first four seasons every Saturday and Sunday night since something like February. They’re into early Season 3 now.

Too bad some of the stuff I mentioned came from later seasons.

I just saw a movie on cable yesterday that had Gandolfini before The Sopranos came his way. Night Falls On Manhattan also has Uncle Junior and Big Pussy in small roles. Uncle Junior is the judge and Big Pussy is a cop with maybe one line. It’s fun to see movies where members of the Sopranos cast were used. Tony Sirico has had many bit parts in gangster stuff so he’s easiest to spot. But Michael Imperioli is a little more prominent in his things. And then there’s Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco, too.

In case it doesn’t show, I’m a huge Sopranos fan.

Gandolfini was also in “Get Shorty”, as the burly bearded goon with the cute daughter. He is almost unrecognizable in that movie, his character seems like an exact opposite of Tony.

Yep, only one season.

I will be in Europe next month and will get more in London.
