"What Would [Your Name Here] Do?"

Serious reply?

Superman. Honest.

–Tim

It’s Cthulhu not Cthulu, sorry to be nit picky but hey it’s probably the easiest of Lovecraft’s Great Old Ones to spell, Remember kids “Smile Cthulhu Loathes You.”

WWAD
What would Azathoth do, just sit there and be the Deamon Sultan, Ultimate Void of Choas that he is!

WWASD
What would Anton Szander LeVay do, probably complain about it, the man had some good points but talk about beating a dead horse, Did that man really like anything…Well besides not taking a bath, and seeing women wet themselves.

Bokonon.

“Chuang Tzu”

—Gesundheit, Ike. Now WHO would you like on your bracelet?

C’mon, people; I DO appreciate how this thread has taken off, but let’s have some “whys” with your names!

WWDD - What Would Dad Do?

My father is a sefl-made man from very humble beginnings. He’s always provided well for his family, he loves my mother more than life itself, he taught all of us how to love, respect, and honor each other and how to work hard, he is the strong, silent type who leads by example. He has more common sense than 99.999% of the people I’ve ever met but he isn’t the least bit judgemental and never has a cross word to say about anyone. He is, in all ways, a good person. If I ever find myself in a situation where I’m picking at the issue too much I just ask myself, “Lee, stop thinking so much. What would Dad do?” It never fails me.

Connor, you beat me to it!!!

WWPND - What Would Peter North Do?

plnnr, I would give the exact same answer. What would my Dad do.

Ambrose Bierce

or possibly Gully Foyle, if I’m in a really nasty mood.

Shouldn’t that be “What Would Chuang Tzu Do-Without-Doing”?

Jethro Clampett

Geez Louise.

I’ll just type Chuang-Tzu into my Search Engine here…hit a couple of buttons…Anything ELSE I can do for you?
“If we look at the great from the standpoint of the small,” said the Spirit of the Ocean, "we cannot reach its limit; and if we look at the small from the standpoint of the great, it eludes our sight. The infinitesimal is a subdivision of the small; the colossal is an extension of the great. In this sense the two fall into different categories. This lies in the nature of circumstances. Now smallness and greatness presuppose form. That which is without form cannot be divided by numbers, and that which is above measurement cannot be measured. The greatness of anything may be a topic of discussion, and the smallness of anything may be mentally imagined. But that which can be neither a topic of discussion nor imagined mentally cannot be said to have greatness or smallness.

“Therefore, the truly great man does not injure others and does not credit himself with charity and mercy. He seeks not gain, but does not despise the servants who do. He struggles not for wealth, but does not lay great value on his modesty. He asks for help from no man, but is not proud of his self-reliance, neither does he despise the greedy. He acts differently from the vulgar crowd, but does not place high value on being different or eccentric; nor because he acts with the majority does he despise those that flatter a few.
The ranks and emoluments of the world are to him no cause for joy; its punishments and shame no cause for disgrace. He knows that right and wrong cannot be distinguished, that great and small cannot be defined.”

Actually, the other one wouldn’t be a bad choice, either.

*"Here I am at a true crossroads in my life…What Would Richard Burton Do…?

“Barkeep! Another large Scotch!”*

—Oh, puh-lease, Ike. You give me a perfectly good straight line, then you get all pissy when I come back with the expected punchline? I guess that’s why there are no great Taoist vaudeville teams—No sense of humor.

You know, it was either my dad or Mr. Kimball from Green Acres - both men I hold in very high esteem. Dad won by a nose (well, maybe not a nose, but something very much like a nose, say Mr. Douglas,…)

Wrong!

Jethro Bodine.

He’s so swave and deboner.

I wasn’t pissy…I was secretly delighted to be able to insert ancient Chinese propaganda into a popular thread. Slythe will probably yell at me now for “witnessing” outside of Great Debates.

I created a site to answer the question: What Would ENDORA Do? http://www.hastur.com/wwed

Has no one yet picked James Bond?

As to the why, I would think it’s obvious - expensive cars, luxury hotels, first-class travel everywhere, exciting adventures, beautiful women. What more could a man want?

Another man.
