Whatcha doing for the Fourth?

Tomorrow morning, we’ll go down to an abandoned construction project near our house and pick a gallon or so of the incredible blackberries that are taking over the site.

I’ll come home and make a blackberry pie.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll take the pie over to a friend’s house for a housewarming/Fourth party, in exchanged for tasty grilled things.

In the evening, we may head over to our favorite downtown bar so that we can sip gin&tonics and watch the fireworks.

It’s supposed to be around 110F tomorrow, so I’ll be sitting by my swamp cooler with a Shiner Bock until around 8 or so, at which time we’ll grill. Dunno what yet; I did carpaccio last night and I have a big thing to grill for this weekend so probably just burgers.

Friday though I’m making gaucho grill with chimichurri sauce and a Hello Kitty cake for my nephew’s gf. Her birthday is on the first and she made some noise about always having a crappy 4th of July themed birthday (made worse by the fact that she shares the same birthday with a much younger sibling), so I’m [del]using it as an excuse to grill[/del] trying make her birthday a little more special.

I can’t tell you because the NSA, DHS, CIA, FBI, MI5, KGB, Mossad and the rest of the alphabet soup monitor my postings. Yes, they installed a tracking chip in my left butt cheek and I can always tell when they’ve tranked me to change the batteries.

So officially I’ll be sitting around with brews and books in hand and steaks on the grill.

Normally we would laze around the house for the day, then go pack a picnic and watch the firework show at our local college with my family. However, this is my first 4th away from home in ages. My husband will be driving to Las Vegas in the heat, and I will be at Stratford on Avon, getting meself edumacated about Billy Shakespeare. I’ll be thinking about BBQs and fireworks, though!

I’d just like to say that I am extremely envious and bitter toward all of you who live in states where one can purchase and set off fireworks. :frowning:

So I’m going to the Nugget to see my friend’s cabaret/marching band troupe perform instead.

Nothing. I have no friends.

Weather and such permitting, I hope to be hiking here .

July 4, 1976: in my hometown in Ohio, saw the longest fireworks display (90 min.) I’ve ever seen. My father, who had not yet become a US citizen, flew the Stars-n-Stripes for the first time in his life. I was 8.

Going to a BBQ with my parents at their building, then going to ANOTHER BBQ with friends and hopefully seeing fireworks. (Due to the first BBQ, won’t have time to see the eating contest at Coney Island. :frowning: Drag.)

Well, I’m definitely working. I’m part of a stand-by crew at a fairground event.

Any Dopers going to the air show at the Frederick, MD fairgrounds, look for me! I’ll be in the ambulance.

Working, hoping not too many people get drunk and blow themselves up.

I got the day off, just by chance, but right now my only big plan is to sleep late. They have a fireworks display over the river that I can see just by standing in front of my house, but I guess I might take a walk down there. It’ll save me from hearing my cat freak out over the noise.

Yeah, yawn.

I just passed one of the restaurants near my office and there was some sort of 4 July celebratory lunch going on.

Effin’ expats!

Well, turns out my friend doesn’t need my help with the furniture rearranging project – I may reschedule him for some other time – turns out I have to do some work I brought home this morning, and I’d like a little screwing around time to myself at some point today.

I’m spending a couple weeks teaching at an English conversation camp at the American University of BG, and we’re having a shindig this afternoon. I don’t think we’ll have any fireworks (large groups of teenagers + fireworks = bad idea), but there’s going to be a picnic, lots of watermelon, plus lots of games. The kids (who are from BG, Montenegro, Serbia, Italy, France, Russia, and Kazakhstan) seem really excited about it. I have had several people wish me a happy independence day. They are so cute.

My counterpart also sent me a text message wishing me a happy birthday. I think she’s a little confused about something.

HAPPY
INDEPENDENCE
DAY!!!

We’re going to work on our rental property today. Ivygirl has summer school today, so no point in visiting family.

I’m going to my SIL’s to photograph her garden (weather permitting). Then I’m coming back to watch a few movies. I doubt I’ll witness a single firework, as they rarely go over the treetops in my yard and it’ll be too late to go to the festivities and still drag my butt outta bed tomorrow morning. I lead an extremely dull life. Sigh…

Been invited up the mountain to a friend’s house for a pool/hot tub/ cookout party. Might go. Always nice to meet new people.

Otherwise, working in home office, which is stupid since today is a company holiday. Hmmm. Might need to go and watch a movie or go for a walk on the bike path?

Happy Independence Day, y’all!

[sub]I’m at work…[/sub]

Last night we went to some friends’ to grill/do fireworks/enjoy alcoholic beverages. I just got up a little while ago and right now I’m sitting on the couch in my PJs. This afternoon we’re going to my in-laws’ to go boating and this evening we’re going to my sister’s to grill/do fireworks/enjoy alcoholic beverages for my nephew’s birthday. Good times.
