What'cha gonna buy me in the MMP?

Howdy Y’all! We went to the hog trough Golden Corral and et late N.O.L./early sup. Since then we’ve been slothin’ about. Earlier I made a cake with chawklit/pee-kahn icin’. A friend’s bday is today, but we are celebratin’ tomorrow with taco soup (OLÈ) and cake.

Today is the tenth anniversary of my Mom’s passing. Ten years is a long time, and she was 89, after all, but if you’d known my mother, you’d understand why I’m a little teary today. She was sweeter and warmer than I am, achieved an incredible amount (from dirt poor in Italy to coming here, being the only HS graduate in her family, going on to get a BS, MS, and all the coursework for a PhD, teaching for many years–on top of raising four lively kids and having a politically active, busy husband), and had a wonderful feisty streak she used for good and not evil. You’d have liked her, honest.

I walked to the dentist to get the root canal done. After a couple of eternities working on it, he said I have tiny canals and need to see an endodontist. I have an appointment on the 22nd. I’m guessing this is going to cost me more out-of-pocket than this visit was supposed to. Bless this dentist, though, as he didn’t charge me a dime despite Novocaine, drilling, x-rays, time and work.

Isn’t it funny? You’re bopping alone feeling fine, have dental work or surgery, and then you’re not feeling so fine any more. For a good cause, though, right?

This post sounds like i’m a Lonely Little Petunia in an Onion Patch, but really, I’m not feeling sad.

Swampy, how do you fill the house with the mouthwatering scents of chocolate and pecans and wait a whole day to sample the cake? Cruel and unusual punishment, if you ask me.

I don’t have a passport because I’ve never left the country except to go to Canada back in the day. (I lived 40 miles from the border.) I have to renew my drivers license this year, which I’ll do even though I won’t be driving. I’m not ready to give up for good and get an ID.) I did the Real ID thing back in Wyoming, but apparently I have to do it all over again now. Stupid system. Glad I’ve only been married and divorced once, as all name changes must be documented.

We lunched on yummy sandwiches from the Portuguese place around the corner. It’s kind of a Thursday tradition, since Thursday is normally my Saturday. Baguette bread, with their incredible Portuguese cheese, thinly-sliced ham, and lots of butter. Simple but deelish!

I accomplished both the laundry and bathroom cleanin’, as well as getting my golf bag ready for tomorrow. That’s what passes for a full day around here lately.

Now I got a hankerin’ for pot roast too. Mrs W eschews beef, so it’s the very rare occasion I get to eat some. And it never seems as good in restaurants as home-cooked. My mom used to slow-cook it all day in an electric frying pan, with onion soup mix on top and sliced taters all around it. Mmmmmm! If the Mrs ever travels out of town again, maybe I’ll try something like that in the slow cooker while she’s gone.

Nellie, your mother sounds wonderful. I know we would have liked her.

nellie, I too know we would have liked your Mom…after all, she raised you… And hope the other guy can find your tiny canals.

swampy, I am having a Pavlovian reaction to your description of chawklit/pecan icing. You can have the cake, just send me the icing!! Our Golden Corral is closed indefinitely, which is a shame because that’s where I got my Pot Roast fix at (with noodles and gravy like Mom used to do).

FCM, let me see, you locked Taz in the bedroom and he peed of FCD’s side of the bed. Either you have that pup well-trained or he has a poor sense of direction…

wheelie, I’ve have a passport for about 35 years (think I’m on my fourth one) and the nearest place to get Real ID is 18 miles away…I guess I’ll round up the paperwork one of these days and get it done.

Cole done it?

Neighbor’s old roof is off and the first layer of wood is down, they’ll probably come back tomorrow and do the shingles. Slippers have been shipped, pants are at the dry cleaners, and the kitchen stone has been cleaned and polished, so all is right with the world in Case Rat.

All y’all have a good night (and a good morning to our Euro-Mumpers).

I know I would. I love those girls with fierce independent streaks.

FCM~happy anniversary-hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did reading your love story.

OW~ I loved your love story too, your old one and your new one, please tell them to us again next year. Hot diggety!

Up, caffeined. Off to sort.

bumba, you got a fancy schmancy iPhone! I noticed the other day that they were more expensive than the iPhone 12 models (iPhone 11 was a major model change).

It’s been a heck a day. I spent about 1.5 hours company time trying to get the check in app downloaded to my phone. Since it was my personal device, that meant that I couldn’t multi-task whilst at irk in person. I was so aggravated that I wound up with a headache. I told the boss that I was going to irk from home for the rest of the day. What with having to wait in the queue for the help line and the 2 hours it the guy to remote my phone, uninstalling BOTH of the required apps several times and kicking it up to his supervisor, I now have the !@#$ thing working. Now for the real test tomorrow morning.

When I took Nelson out for his afternoon constitutional, I met the new maintenance guy. I also swung b the PO for Xmas stamps on the way home, so I can get cards stamped tonight. When I (finally) get the ones that I ordered online, I can keep them for next year since they’re forever stamps.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

MetalMouse - Taz is kitteh not puppeh. He used to pee on my side, but today he decided to change sides. Regardless, all the peed-upon bedding has been laundered and put back on the bed.

Gotta get up early tomorrow and fetch the young 'un. So I guess I should crash soon.

I was remiss earlier.

Happy first night of Hanukkah to those who celebrate.

I finished off the Thanksgiving turkey, with Dijon mustard. I also had a chunk of Beecher’s Flagship cheddar, and the rest of the leftover creamed spinach with feta. Also, a bourbon and some cabernet sauvignon.

Mmmmmmmm

That cat needs a diaper. Or a cork.

Dinner will be of the “tour the leftovers” variety, on the “scrounge when you feel like it” plan. I’ve had a slice of pizza so far (left the other for DH), planning cooked chicken over rice, with some Heinz gravy, as the rest of my meal. We plan to splurge at the fish&chips place nearby tomorrow.

I forgot to include this before. Who can solve Nellie’s deep, dark mysteries? OK, maybe not so dark. Probably not deep, either, but I sure can’t figure 'em out.

  1. It’s a 3+ mile walk to the dentist. About at the 1.5 mile mark, I noticed drops on my eyelashes, followed immediately by moisture dripping from my hair. My hair was bone dry when I left my place. (I showered last night.) It was not raining or misting. I was not walking under a bunch of trees. My coat was not damp, even on the shoulders. I was not perspiring on my scalp or anywhere else. I thought maybe from vapor coming out of my mask? But even the back of my head was damp, and it’d take a LOT of vapor to make my hair dripping wet.

  2. When the dentist’s receptionist took my temp for COVID screening, it was 91.9. A month ago when I was at the oncologist’s office, my temp was in the 91 range. The nurse there tried two thermometers, put in new batteries, and tested the thermometers on herself. It was definitely all me. I was toasty in my coat walking over. At no point did I feel chilly. Maybe the damp hair was a factor? But would it cause that much of a drop? Also, again, never felt chilly.

What would cause such a low body temp?

Hypothyroidism would be my first suspicion. There are many, varied, amazing, wondrous and tortuous ways that gland can run amuck and many of them are immunological or inflammatory, what a surprise.

Both my son and I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, one of the most common and relatively easy to treat, once gotten through the merry race of diagnosing and titrations of medications.

Hie thyself to an endocrinologist (or a PA or NP in an endocrinology practice). Starting with your family practice doc or internist could also be a good first move. Physical exam and simple blood tests are good first steps and either place could start looking into it.

The General left chicken on my doorstep

Beats a flaming bag of dog poop.

[Orders flaming bag of dog poop from Da Jungle for doggie to sort and deliver to himself.]

What?? Da Jungle sells everything!

nellie - maybe you’re just weird??? Sorry, I know, no help, but I’m in a smart-ass mood this morning. You’ll do better listening to Boo. Hope you get it sorted out.

shoe - that cracked me up!

MissOwl - just add match…

I mostly slept thru the night without benefit of wine - HUZZAH!! It was lovely to walk out of the bedroom into warm - yay for operational pellet stove! The tech told me we bought one of the best brands there is and we can expect many, many years as long as we have it serviced regularly. The problem was caused by a build-up of gunk, so now I know. I’ll make sure to get someone to go over it as soon as the heating season is over.

Breakfasting and caffeinating at the moment, soon to retrieve the toddler. HVAC guy comes today to service the furnace - not sure when, but I’m guessing I’ll get a text. And I’m guessing it’s a guy - is that a sexist assumption? Anyway, that’s today’s big excitement. Temps are supposed to hit low 60s over the weekend, and I plan to do some yard work. With leaves gone, I can see better to do a few necessary tasks. And I need to make a trash/recycling run. Busy busy!

Oh yeah, and FCD’s aunt and uncle have tested positive for the plague. Both in their 70s in Indiana. Scary.

Anyway, Happy Firday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. In a little while I shall get all the ingredients together for taco soup (OLÉ!) and get it goin’ in the slow cooker. Our friend will be over around five to partake of that and belated bday cake. She has it kind of rough around her bday as four years ago her husband committed suicide three days after her bday. So hopefully this will help cheer her up a bit.

Nellie I second what Boo said. Hyperthyroidism is what popped into my haid when I read your post.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tumy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

Morning, mumpers! Well, it’s morning for another six minutes over here

Nellie sorry to hear you have another potential health woe to deal with. Also sorry to hear about your sadness, your mum sounds like she was a fabulous lady and she would have fitted in very well here.

Mooom sorry to hear about the plague-ridden relatives too, I hope they get through unscathed. We have, apparently, recorded another massive increase in cases nationally today, does not bode well for next week’s review of our tier system.

I have had a productive morning, had two separate minion meetings and made an appointment to take one of the cats to the vet in two weeks’ time for her booster shots. She will need a new vaccination certificate this time, we’ve had her for so long that the current one is full now.

Oh well, back to irk…no more meetings today!
