I used to like this beer. It was super duper cheap, and had a good bitter after taste. Then it disapeared. I searched the web but found nothing about it’s demise. Usually a brewer doesn’t just drop a lable that’s been around that long, especially when it was selling. It was made by G. Hwieleman in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Anyone from around there, or eastern Minnesota know what happened?
Google shows that Heilman Brewing went bust and got bought by Miller Brewing. That may be what happened.
Was Kingsbury just a non-alcoholic beer? That seems to be the sense I get from using Google.
Actually both Miller & Pabst split up Heileman and Strohs brands. I just can’t find anything that says they stopped making the kingsbury label. I’d call their info line at Miller or Pabst and ask, but I tried to do that a while ago when I was trying to find out what happened to Augsberger ( a Stroh label that got cut, but I had heard was coming back). After waiting an hour to get a real live person on the phone, I was told “Duhhhh, I don’t know what happened to it, even though our company owns the label and this is the info line”. I get better info here on the SDMB.
Kingsbury made both an N/A beer and regular brew. I’m, uh, interested in the alcoholic version;)
That was an awful beer, if they discontinued it consider yourself fortunate. I think here in Madison they still sell the NA version.
Uh, no. I actually liked it. It had some grit to it. I’m just trying to find out if they actually discontinued it, or if they just stopped distributing it in my area.
As for the N/A version, I have no use for N/A beer. If I want something non-alcoholic I’ll drink soda.
from here!
Wow! No wonder pk doesn’t want to switch.
pkbites If I remember my local history correctly, Kingsbury was brewed in Sheboygan. I still remember the old brewery site on New York avenue. They sure don’t brew it there anymore. I believe they closed it in 1959.
Yeah, but then the brand was taken over by G. Heileman in La Crosse (they brewed Old Style, Special Export, etc) Heileman was then taken over by Pabst.
I’ve had Kingsburry beer up until about a year ago, then it disappeared from the store shelves. Clerks at the liquor stores are no help. What do they know.
