We have drainage, repeat, we have drainage! This plumber was also confused by the apparently stoopit drain layout, and there may still be a problem with the main drain, but I can now shower and wash clothes and everything. Defilthification shall commence as soon as I’m sure the guy’s stopped messing with the main drain.
Then onwards into the day!
I need to pick up something from town and also check on the bees. It’s supposed to rain, but that’s OK as I need to move the mini-hive, and that would actually be better to do in the rain 'cos no bees will be out flying. If you move it too far while they’re out, they’re more likely to get lost. The mini-hive needs all the foragers it can get right now, as most of its residents are young bees, which eat but don’t collect food. I should probably give it some extra food too, seeing as there’s lotsa rain forecast, so they’ll be stuck in a lot.
No rain for today, and it’s in the mid-60s at the moment, so the house is open. I’ll have to close up again later this morning, since we’re promised mid-80s, but for now, I’ll enjoy fresh air.
**MetalMouse **- when I was in WalMart yesterday, I noticed their bike inventory was very small and sparse. But if you’re considering a stationary bike, try looking on Craigslist or some such - I’ve seen them for very reasonable prices being sold by folks who got tired of their clothes racks.
My greenhouse is being delivered today. But I can’t set it up till I move several plants. At least 2 of them are really big and can be divided for their new homes. But I don’t think that’ll happen today. I need to run a couple of loads of laundry, and I really should run a wet mop over the kitchen floor.
That big cracking BOOM two days ago coincided with my friggin’ internet going out, and it has yet to be restored. I’m visiting with my Mumper friends by chewing through my data plan.
Oh! That diner nearby had free WiFi. Show of hands: who votes I get a big, hearty meal that someone else cooks/cleans, while surfing Teh Intertubez at leisure?
Mowage has been achieved. We are no longer in competition for worst yahd in da 'hood. Go Us!
We have a motion on the floor. All in favor of shoe gettin’ a big, hearty meal that someone else cooks/cleans, while surfing Teh Intertubez at leisure say “AYE.” AYE!!!
Purp, as the motion passed, hope you enjoy breaking fast at the diner.
Happy Birthday Flyboy!
Swampy, congrats on mowage. Not sure how close your neighbors are, I always wait until 9:30am or so before mowing, but 8am is a great time to do it in the summer.
FCM, don’t really want a stationary bike, I’m stationary too much as it is, but yeah, everything seems pretty picked over. Maybe I will join one of the local gyms.
Enjoy the shower, nut!!!
Put on the sleep mask and stayed in bed until 8am. May have to make it a regular thing. Heading to 86F today with no rain, but nice right now. Need to do a little shopping at Wally’s and maybe get the car cleaned, but outside of that nothing much on the agenda.
I have a load of t-shirts and shorts on the lines. Productivity has been achieved!
I have just decided that supper tonight is clean-out-the-fridge. And as soon as **FCD **gets up from his nap, I shall vacuum.
That sounds an awful lot like adulting!!!
As of 5PM this evening, restaurants in most of MD can reopen at 50% capacity. We’re going to wait a bit before dining out, till we see how the virus curve goes. But we may eventually try breakfast on a Wednesday rather than the weekend. We shall see…
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. The PC shut it self off and Gordie hornked on the carpet(He decided it was faster and more efficient to just Hoover up the kibble without chewing:smack::dubious:)
In an ideal and normal world, Kopek and I would have gone to Cook Forest yesterday for the big F&I event weekend to set up registration, deal with 1,000 other little things, and get ready to play with our friends all weekend. In lieu of “us” going, I should have gone there yesterday to prepare for Kopek’s “Big Bang” send-off. We (I) then should have left at the end of this coming week for CoasterCon. None of this is happening thanks to the Corona cooties, and I am very sad. Some friends from one of the units that would have attended Cook Forest invited me to a picnic at their house on Sunday and I’m really looking forward to seeing them.
In addition, and in keeping with the topic of this thread (ha!), I’ve been having trouble sleeping the last couple of nights. Either I can’t turn off my brain, or I get foot cramps. Last night, as soon as I’d start to drift off, my right foot would go into painful contortions, which meant I had to get up and walk around, which meant that the cat thought “woooohooooo, it’s play time, play with me, pet me, PET ME!!” The cramp would subside, I’d lie down, and it would start all over again with the left foot and the cat, repeat ad nauseam. So, I’m a bit cranky today and will require a nap later.
Howdy all. Haven’t read but will. I have been absent due to hubby and his very iffy health. His cardiologist had pretty much given up on him but sent him to one of his colleagues for a new set of eyes and with one trans esophageal echocardiogram she was able to diagnose him. He is scheduled for open heart surgery on the 24th to replace valves. It is risky but there really is no other choice. He will die soon if it’s not fixed. I am scared but also relieved to know they will try to fix him. His regular cardiologist called me after and said once he is operated on and recovered he should be back to normal which is a little unbelievable given all the shit he’s been through in the last six months. Including being poisoned by a bad drug.
I hope everyone is doing good. Off to read and catch up on everyone.
{{{Butters & hubby}}} - so glad he’s gotten a proper diagnosis at last! All my bestest and healthiest thoughts are headed your (his) way for an excellent outcome!
Daughter et. al. have gone to the playground so Roxy can get all tuckered out. I took advantage of their absence to vacuum all the common areas. Then I decided the filters were overdue for a cleaning - it’s so nice having compressed air available to blow out the crud! All the pieces have also been hosed out and are on the porch in the sun to dry.
I thought it would be a good time to clean the beater bar so I flipped the vacuum over and removed the bottom plate. Not only was there a lot of hair and string wrapped around the drum, but the inside was caked with kitty litter. So I’ll have to instruct SIL NOT to vacuum it up but to use a foxtail and dustpan. It was really gross!
Lunch was a cucumber and some sweet cherries. I didn’t feel like making anything. So I expect to be starving in short order. It’s so hard being me… <pose of woe>
Happy Firday! Happy Birthday FlyBoy!
{{{Butters and Hubby}}} I hope all goes well.
Nice day at the park, although a little chilly at 6am
Maia is supposed to come tomorrow, so we should have the whole morning gang back together.
There was a huge great dane there this morning.
Echo wanted a piece of him. I said, little girl, he could eat you in one bite. Echo calmed down and they all played tag for a bit, then Echo got all testy again.
She’s been weird since quarantine.
I came home, got a shower, and took Ripple to the vet. The vet met me at my truck and took him in. I worried how he would handle it. It trotted off nicely with her albeit with his tail between his legs. She said he was good, didn’t try to bite anybody.
When I got back some guy hauling a mower waved at me going up the alley. So I talked to him about doing some irk in my yard. Then he said he also does home improvements and could put a new roof on the shed for me, a new gate out front, and put a fence in. He suggested just putting in a chicken wire fence, it’ll keep the dogs on my side, can bend around the trees, and won’t cost too much. I won’t need to get a survey or permit either as it is ‘temporary’. That might be a good option for the short term. He also let me know what stuff coming up in the yard is weeds and what isn’t.
We’re going out in a bit to do some cleaning up, but I’ll still let him come next week do what needs to be done.
I’m trying to reset my old computer back to factory settings so I can give it away. It has run for over 20 hours and still isn’t done, so I canceled the job and plan on starting over. If it will ever shut down and come back up.
Wordy, lovely as your friends might be, I’d tell them to come over for the company and bring their own food. I can’t be doing with picky eaters, if you don’t like what’s cooking, you don’t have to eat it.
Busy day over here for a change, we have a huuuuuuuge amount of work to do for our final year students because the cancellation of exams means that we have not got a full set of results to work with. It means a load of things will have to be manually calculated and after a meeting this morning, we found out that we may have to make alterations to marks all the way back to the 2014 academic session when our oldest-registered student started. That means I’ve spent all afternoon running reports and adding bits to them so we have something useful to start with…but it also means that having spent hours doing 2014, I’ve got every subsequent year to do after that.
Well, not today. I’ve officially logged off for the weekend, it’s nearly 6pm and I have half an hour before I’m due to be attending an online live storytelling event. So all I need to do now is swap my work laptop for my personal one…
I’m having a “piddly” day. Nothing crucial on the agenda, but several fun-to-do and many really-oughta-do half-completed projects underfoot, so I’m pottering gently from one to another as it suits me. (Hmm. Okay, I may be seeing some cause & effect here.)
I poked at my plants, put away clean dishes, and sent another last minute batch of postcards in the Exchange thread (boy howdy, last minute!) and having again crashed early last night, am gonna ferrealz this time make that damn soup today.
I need to rejigger my routine to accommodate the fact that there’s no way in fuck’s name I’m gonna cook after a ten-hour shift on my feet.
One of the few benefits of working at home all day with two bored kids is my ability as a parent to have them clean the house. So that’s what they’re doing today before the friends arrive. Hopefully I’ll actually remember to ask them. Sometimes I get wrapped up and completely forget. But…the place looks like a laundry pile/dish pile, so should probably fix that before expecting people to eat at the hovel.
Anyway, as luck would have it, the day I plan to stop working early is the day everything goes south - client needs a completed 15-page audit document right now, budget suddenly required today, regulatory summary needed…TODAY. It never fails. I’m already exhausted and I’ve only finished one of the three items.
On the plus side, my knuckles are bumps instead of dimples now, so the swelling is down, as is the discomfort. Yay!
But I feel extremely stupid. The big move a-comin’ next week has shown my foolish and lazy colors. I’ve always just stayed signed in here, so forgot my password. I no longer have access to the email account I was using when I signed up here and never thought to change it and can’t change it now without my password. So I hope when we make the big change in a week’s time, I’ll still be here. The SDMB and the MPSIMS in particular have come to mean a lot to me, and I don’t know where I’d be without all of you. I’ve thrown myself on TubaDiva’s mercy, but argh, she shouldn’t be having to deal with the likes of me when she’s got so much on her plate.
I’m sure you’re all set to make a smooth transition.
{{{{Butters}}}} Wishing you and hubs smooth sailing through the 24th and excellent news thereafter.
Happy Birthday, Flyboy!
Sari, glad you found a cheap solution to the issues with your neighbor.
Swampy, hope the mowing is done and you’re sipping something frosty by the cement pond.
