Regular round pan. It takes slightly less than five minutes to mix up, and is very comforting and very easy to fiddle with- changing the spices, for instance, to do a ginger-flavoured one with sliced pears and ginger streusel, cardamon cinnamon and cherry etc.
Lindey’s Steak House which is one of the best steaks in the Twin Cities. They have their special cut and it’s just perfect, served with bottomless hashbrowns, garlic buttered hot dog buns, and pickled watermelon rinds (which are never eaten). Oh, it’s soooooo good.
Mmm sounds absolutely delicious. Thanks so much!
See Post #157.
Creatures of habit, we are.
I figured I’d start a new thread since the last one was getting a bit old…
Last night I bought some top round steak (2 pieces) and placed them in a Ziploc bag with a health dose of Tabasco sauce, Mrs. Dash, black pepper and garlic salt. I shook it all up and let sit in the fridge all night and day.
I started dinner tonight by sticking a potato in my toaster oven at 400 for an hour.
To hold off starvation and possibly passing out, I had the rest of the salad I made the night before: lettuce and a whole yellow onion with croutons, a third a block of pepper jack cheese and plain Italian dressing.
That done and the potato almost cooked, I turned on my GF grill to preheat, then cooked the steak about 2.5 minutes on each side.
My mouth is still burning from that steak. It was sooooo good.
I think I’ll wash it down with a Wild Turkey on the rocks. Yum!
Grilled cheese with bacon.
Chicken-fried steak with milk gravy and mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. Goddamn, I am a good cook. My family’s so lucky.
A bowl of cereal. Been doing laundry, cleaning, etc., and just didn’t care/wasn’t that hungry.
Tomorrow the bf will be in town and we are going to our favorite teppanyaki place so I will more than make up for tonight then
No idea. I had a big lunch, so I might eat a small dinner, like a Subway sandwich or something.
Pot roast, roasted with potatoes, parsnips and onions.
Three corn dogs, a handful of tortilla chips with black bean salsa, and three or four Amber Bocks.
Bean soup, with a meaty ham hock from the local Polish deli and white navy beans.
ETA: Oh, and some homemade cold-smoked Hungarian sausages (debreceni).
Chik’n tenders with sweet potato fries baked in the oven, with mayo/bbq/tabasco dipping sauce that I made. Washed down with a cherry wheat beer.
Roasting acorn squash in the oven now, with which I am making soup with onions, parsnips, golden beets, cauliflower, red kale, cilantro and turmeric. I’ll have some for tasting tonight, but will be dinner tomorrow, plus lunch for a few days.
I had two smash successes this evening.
The first was lasagna, made from this recipe. I followed it, except I used two jars of sauce, two pounds of ground beef, and all mozzarella instead of a mixture of mozzarella and provolone. The lasagna was freaking divine, absolutely the best I’ve ever had. I think this is partially because the cheese mixture is such a high proportion of melting cheese to ricotta. I used IGA’s house brand mozzarella and lasagna noodles too… my husband has always said that IGA makes the best mozzarella, and the noodles had a lovely velvety texture. Oh… and the ground beef was from the pastured, antibiotic-free, properly hung, very spoiled steer we bought a quarter of. This was my first time using the ground beef, and it was reeeeeeeeeally different from supermarket beef. It was plum-purplish in color when raw, and actually smelled beefy as it cooked.
Earlier in the day, because I was having a chocolate attack, I made the Fudge Brownies from my Good Housekeeping cookbook. I added a handful of semisweet chocolate chips on top of the batter, otherwise followed the recipe exactly. They aren’t dark-dark chocolate brown, but they’re fudgy and awesome. My husband says they’re the best he’s ever had.
Mojitos with fresh mint and Kraken rum. Haven’t got around to eating, but I have a bruschetta topping of tomatoes, basil and vinaigrette marinating in the fridge that I’ll toast up on italian bread with some cheese on top. I had a big lunch.
Roasted vegetables, a can of tuna, and some beef jerky.
Y’all are making me hungry again!
My kid and I had rosemary baked chicken with onion and garlic, with a baked sweet potato and some buttered broccoli on the side. My wife had the same except for the broccoli: because she loathes broccoli, I made her a salad. It was a very American meal, fairly tasty.
I live in a dorm. My dining hall’s food usually starts to drop off in quality as the weekend approaches.
So this evening I had a bacon cheeseburger which I put Tabasco on to hide the fact that it was grilled to a black crisp, with a side of asparagus covered in turkey gravy. Health, psh, who needs that?
Black eyed peas cooked with hamhocks and greens, and biscuits.
Spaghetti and meaty meat sauce with Australian parmesan cheese, leftover from last night.
Lunch was leftover African peanut soup. Breakfast was leftover coffee cake. Today has been Leftover Day.
