What's for dinner tonight?

Cooking now: Cauliflower Soup with Pecorino Romano and Truffle Oil. Last time I made it with homemade chicken stock, but no bacon; this time it’s boxed organic free-range chicken stock, and a bit of bacon. And rosemary Asiago instead of pecorino romano.

Next up: something with a fresh whole trout, no idea what yet. Ideas welcome.

I had a roast beef sub from DiBella’s, hmmm

Just came back from a live matinee of “The Lion King” and an early dinner. Had French Onion soup, Roast Duck a l’Orange with roasted red potatoes and haricots verts and a Bailey’s Irish Cream chocolate cake. It was yummy.

I think my worst followed-the-recipe-to-a-t but it still sucked had to be a linguine with blue cheese, parmesean and walnuts. Heaviest thing ever, it had the consistency of some sort of giant blob. Wasn’t a cheap dish either. Blerg.

An orange, 2 slices of bread with cheese and lettuce, 3 pieces of salmon.

Feeling ambitious… chicken enchiladas with green sauce, spicy black beans, and rice.

Last night: I had some prosciutto to use up so I fried it (1st time I’ve tried that!) along with some capers, and we had pasta. It was good.

Tonight: we splurged for Central Market stuff. We’re splitting a ribeye and a hunk of tuna. Sides will be haricot vert and teenytiny new potatoes. Creme brulee for dessert. The perfect V-Day dinner … all at home, because we never go out on the main “go out for dinner” holidays!

I’ve already got it in the slow cooker! Ham steaks with tropical fruit sauce. Never had it before, but the house already smells divine. I’ll be serving some steamed sugar snap peas and some sort of nice bread with it.

For dessert, we will be having the cupcakes that mudgirl bought me (with her own money) for Valentine’s Day!

Last night my dad and SO and I went out (Mom’s outta town, the Littlest and Middle Bluth had homework). They offered a sheet of “Valentine’s weekend specials”. My dad gravitated toward the salmon. $21.

I pointed out that the exact same salmon prepared slightly differently on the main menu was just $16. :smack: 30% upcharge for the holiday!

Tonight we plan to have Indian and until purplehorseshoe reminded me, I forgot it was V-day (it’s my parents’ anniversary so…never been a fan of the day). We’ll try to go late and miss the rush, 830 or 9.

One of two things:

  1. A baked tortilla with a little cheese and some chicken simmered with salsa on top accompanied by some broccoli; or

  2. Take out from our favorite Indian-style Chinese restaurant.

It’ll probably be #1, since it’s far healthier - I’ve been eating too much crap lately. Today has been especially bad since I’ve gotten candy from five people at work, my boss gave me donuts and cookies and my husband gave me candy this morning.

I think my head is going to explode from all the sugar. I’m about to go on a walk right now in the hopes that it’ll make my thighs feel less fat. I don’t think I can walk that long during work, though.

Pfffft. My chili’s way better than anything Wendy’s has for sale.

I tin of King Oscar sardines in olive oil, mug of Harney’s & Sons African Autumn tea with 2 Nonni’s Biscottis dunked (lemon flavor). Had a big lunch (6" meat ball marinara, 2 macadamia nut cookies and a 21-oz unsweetened iced tea (with fibered Splenda) at Subway

Smoked sausage, sauerkraut w/onions and mustard on bread.

Tonight will be a big bowl of white popcorn, popped on the stove with olive oil and Lawry’s Seasoned Salt. Tomorrow I might have the energy to come up with something for the greens, cabbage and celery in the fridge.

Salad of lettuce, carrot, celery, tomato and radishes, with poppyseed dressing; and bit of mixed fruit for dessert. Guess it sort of balances out the burger I had from Jack in the Box for lunch.

Tonight I made penne carbonara. Mmmm, bacon, eggs, and cheese. But I’m not going to have a heart attack, because I used whole wheat penne!

Ooh, I need to learn how to make carbonara!

Leftover spaghetti tonight. Roomie almost had some peanut soup, but she decided she needed the carbs.

There’s that damn peanut soup again.

Aye.

“Pasta in a red sauce”. Whole wheat penne, Trader Joe’s organic tomato sauce poured over half a sauteed sweet onion, tons of red pepper flakes, fresh black pepper and a hearty addition of fresh parmesean mixed into the sauce.

And cut up veggies/dip on the side. And a pear.
