Trust me, I am NOT looking forward to shopping on that day. I’ve done most of my shopping on line so far. The Mr. wants to be out shopping that day - go figure! I’ll probably only last but an hour before I want to kill someone. I hate malls, and crowds - so this will be a true test!

Seriously, do you have to refrain from eating for 24 hours? Would make for a kinda surreal - yet memorable Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving in Merka is always the fourth Thursday in November. I have Friday as a holiday. I plan on emptying the dishwasher, (10 people at my house for Thanksgiving Dinner :eek: ) having a lot of snuggles with the bf, eating leftovers, (love leftover turkey, dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Yum!) and having a lot more snuggles with the bf.
Exercising, getting new tires, and going to a college hockey tournament.
More technically, garius, Thanksgiving in the US is always on the 4th Thursday in November.
Canada has a Thanksgiving too. I think it was established by the second boatload of pilgrims who got lost on the way across the pond.
Well, my side of the family is celebrating on Saturday, so everyone can coordinate their schedules (and go visit in-laws on Thursday, rather than everyone rushing all about town to get in all their visiting). So, Friday will be my food prep day: brining the turkey, chopping all the veggies, making pie dough, etc.
My girlfriend is flying in from Las Vegas on Thanksgiving day. I have to work that Friday, but we’ll find some time to do some stuff. Not gonna tell ya what, though.
I’ll be in New Orleans, hopefully having dinner with some dopers.
I’ve always wondered how people in the US cope with having the Halloween thing, the Thanksgiving thing, and the Christmas thing one after the other.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Thanksgiving is a “floating” holiday (ie, not held on the same date each year). If it isn’t tied to a specific date, why is it being held on a Thursday, rather than a Friday or Monday?

I’m going to be at a mall at 6 am for a couple of items. I hope to be home by 8. Then depending on the weather, about 40 strings of lights will go up. I usually finish well after dark.
