Happy Saturday!
I was a lazy slug this morning and slept in until 10am. Yesterday had been exhausting, with very little going as planned.
It’s a beautiful day outside, so I hope to get a few things done out there.
Poor kitty is still in hiding. We’re checking on him but basically leaving him alone. I guess that is the right thing to do. When he sees us coming he flattens himself down and tries to hide his face. I guess if he can’t see us, we can’t see him - silly cat.
I just found the receipt, the shelter gives a lot of paperwork. Normally the adoption fee is $75, but my cost was $0. I gave them a $12 donation which is all the cash I had on me. He’s been neutered, wormed, has his shots, I get a free vet check (has to be done in the next 10 days), he’s micro-chipped, and I get a 30 day free trial of pet health insurance. Not a bad deal.
His name is Ash, but we are changing it. Not sure what we will call him, but he doesn’t look like an Ash to me. He was turned in because his owners split up.
I think he will not be a good mouser, but I think the mice know he is here. The night before last I woke up thinking somebody had broken into the house, it was so noisy and all it was was a teeny tiny mouse. How something so small can make so much noise? Last night the house was quiet.
I remember when I bought my first house, a row house in the city. It had been empty for over a year and was totally infested with mice. It was horrible. I tried traps and managed to catch my fingers and the dog’s nose. I tried poison.
Then I got a kitten and even though she was just a kitten, and a very sick one at that, the mice disappeared.
Stormy was the only surviving kitten in a litter with a feral cat mother. The mother got sick, so I got Stormy earlier than she should have been taken from her mother (who died). Then Stormy got sick and refused to eat. That is when I learned about Nutrical.
She was a very pretty cat, pure grey with wicked yellow eyes. I liked her, and she was a nice cat, as long as you didn’t try to pet her. She hated to be touched. She did like to sit in laps though, and if I had company she’s sit next to them and pat them on the shoulder. If they said OK, she’d sit in their lap for a bit and the move on to the next person. If you told her NO, she’d just keep patting your shoulder until you said YES. Very polite that way, as long as you didn’t touch her. Then she’d shred your hand.
My dogs loved her, and she often conspired with them against me. Once I had bought some hamburgers and I put them on top the fridge to keep them away from the dogs while I was busy. Stormy saw them staring at the top of the fridge, so she hopped up there and knocked the bag down for them.
Anyway, I’ll get some pics of the new guy as soon as he settles down a bit and relaxes.
