What's the most disturbing thing you watched on purpose?

9-11 didn’t affect me much; I think watching the beheading was kind of a hairshirt moment for me.

Saddam Hussein’s execution. (Please google it yourself, I’m on dialup).

I watched it because I had been over there, and followed the trial along with everyone else. (And waited in traffic while convoys carrying him passed). Everyone assumed that he’d be executed, due to the newly-elected, US-supported, majority-Shiia government. Sort of like watching a bunch of Hatfields decide on the guilt of a McCoy.

It was really weird, watching a full-fledged monster at the end of a rope, and actually feeling like one of the bad guys.

Just a nitpick, but I believe that was a Chinese clip.

The Japanese have their own disturbing fetishes.

It was The Bridge. Very good film.

Some British documentary footage of West African rebels killing a guy, cutting out his organs and eating them raw.

I’ve visited a couple shock sites and watched more vids than I should have. For me it was the vid made by the Dnepropetrovsk maniacs showing them kill a guy with a hammer, then shoving a screwdriver in him–all the while laughing.

Also a couple rape vids.

Seems like it’s impossible to look away for me.

Jesus.

What are these shock sites you speak of?

Holy fuck! That goes up there with a beheading vid I watched were the guys head was basically sawn of with a smallish knife.

I find these things shocking but they don’t leave me disturbed for long as I’ve already accepted the fact that humans can be absolute animals when given the chance to be. This ‘civilized’ western world we live in is only a few meals away from any horror imaginable.

I went to the Museum of Death in Los Angeles- lotsa still photos of various accident & crime scenes, including the Tate-LaBianca murders- which I just took a quick glance at.

Compared to you all, I’m kinda a weenie!

I’ve avoided the beheading videos and I certainly wouldn’t watch the Dneproppetrovsk Maniacs. I’ve seen some deaths on the Internet, but they tend to be small, fuzzy videos. Probably he worst I’ve seen was on this video: http://www.amazon.com/Banned-TV-Uncensored-VHS-Television/dp/6305072418 There’s a hostage situation somewhere in South America. At some point a crowd of hostages come pouring out of a building. A policeman accidentally shoots a hostage point-blank in the chest with a shotgun and he dies right in front of the news camera.

The Dnepropetrovsk maniacs one is at the site provided by PlainJane. (I haven’t watched it. There’s a long description of it there, and eyes being stabbed is one of the very few things I will not watch.)

I’m haunted by a documentary that was on TV years ago. It was about a South American Indian tribe. I had surfed by the show which was in French and managed to see a scene which I cannot bleach. It involved them getting ‘high’ by filling a 4 foot tube and blowing some sort of liquid up a persons nose. Gross in itself, but the video then showed them casually vomiting for a prolonged period volumes of nasty bile. I truly wish I had never seen it.

I’ve seen it all, unfortunately. The Faces of Death stuff, animal cruelty, executions, beheadings, impalements, car accidents (Nikki Catsouras is particularly awful, especially the story behind it).

Every possible sexual thing: bestiality of all kinds (I saw a video of a man giving a dolphin a BJ that is as funny as it is horrifying), all kinds of “showers”, goatse, giant starfish tattoos over the anus, Lemon Party, 2 girls/1 cup, octopus in orifices, “crush” videos (a.k.a. women stepping on animals-- it’s an international thing), castration fetish. I’ve managed to avoid anything with children, thank God, but the internet is home to everything vile.

I won’t say that none of this disturbs me-- it ALL still disturbs me, you never get desensitized to it-- but off the top of my head, the two things that made me wince more than anything.

One: horse castration via the Henderson Equine Castration Device. Google it, there are demo videos out there. It’s basically a special attachment that fits a power drill that grips, then spins off, the goods. Don’t know why that bothers me more than watching poor Daniel Pearl meet his fate-- probably because the latter makes me angry more than anything.

Two: the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen online was a self-made video of a guy squatting down to, ummm, pleasure himself on a homemade sex toy. Unfortunately for him, the homemade sex toy was a glass bottle that didn’t survive the pressure he placed on it, and proceeded to explode with an audible POP! You can imagine the rest.

Awful place, the internet.

fap fap fap

Maybe not the worst thing I’ve ever seen, but I haven’t been able to get it out of my head.

It was a news story about a guy who had led a troubled life and had found God. They were talking about what led him down the path his life had taken.

Turns out his mom was a junkie with a string of violent boyfriends. One night, when he was about four or five and his little brother was two, the most recent boyfriend decided that he wanted to go rob a house while he was alone with the two kids. He didn’t want to leave them alone (?!) so he took them along.

They came at the house through the woods, but his little brother was scared and started crying. The boyfriend wanted him to shut up so he hit him a few times. That only made him cry louder. The big brother tried to make him stop crying so the boyfriend would stop hitting him, but he couldn’t stop.

The boyfriend then picked up the two year old by the legs and swung him like a bat into the nearest tree. He went in a coma and died a couple days later.

Just a video of a man telling this story of something that happened to him on a winter night twenty years in the past, but holy crap, I cannot get that out of my head.

A while ago, someone posted a video of an Indian monk or some such who burned himself alive as a protest. He just stood there, on fire, not making a sound, until he fell over.

Holy god.

Nah. Don’t think I’ll be checking that particular clip out.

I remember that one. Although I was kind of sad for the monk, I wasn’t disturbed because I was memorized and in awe of the fact that he didn’t cry out in pain, or do anything but just sit there and burn. I wonder if he took some sort of drug or something.

People jumping out of buildings on 9/11 and still photos of them on the ground. What could I possibly have been thinking?

2g1c is gross, sure, but at least it doesn’t show people getting tortured/raped/killed.

Seconded.
