I have seen some of these and used to look at some shocking stuff until I learned it wasn’t good for me and exercised self-control.
But the one that disturbs me the most is this. There is a woman out there who has a website…she was in a drunk driving accident, and her car caught on fire. Her father was there and tried to get her out but it was a relatively long time and she was badly burned all over her body.
The website is truly horrifying. She was a pretty young Spanish woman before the accident. After the accident, she is a monster. Unrecognizable. She is still living her life, but she has had countless surgeries. She tells of how children scream and cry when they see her.
She has a billboard in some places. It shows a before and after picture and it says “Not everyone is killed in drunk driving accidents. Some live.” Or something like that. The after pick is deemed too horrifying to put up on the road in most places.
I don’t remember her name and will not google her. After years and years I am finally gettting the imagery out of my mind. Most likely it’s because I read so much of her story but it truly disturbs me and for a while I had nightmares about it. And how bad is that? How must she feel, knowing she gives nightmares to people? I’d rather die.
Because I can’t actually remember for sure if I ever watched one of those beheading videos, I’ll second this. Mainly because I’m working from a really small pool of “disturbing things I watched on purpose.”
Of course, there was the hot tub scene in About Schmidt.
A video of what I want to say was Czech rebels putting a knife through a Russian soldier’s throat (I could be mixing up the people or circumstances). The accompanying sound was horrifying. If ever there was an “unsee” feature for the brain, this would be the use for it…
A week or so ago, I watched camera footage from a Metra train of a woman attempting to run across in front of it while holding her baby. She didn’t make it.
It didn’t show the hit because it happened below the camera’s view, but you can tell. I wouldn’t call it the most disturbing thing I’ve seen, but it’s the most recent.
there used to be a website called ogrish dot com. AFAK the site still exists, but the last time I was out there it was tamed down A LOT from the form it’s former self.
Talk about nightmares. My fascination with the site ended when I watched a video of a hostage getting his throat slit. To the best of my knowledge it was real.
ETA: I’m wondering if BrandonR is talking about the same video, because that’s what i remember too, is the gurgling sound.
Gah, both of those are horrible! The first one I’d seen and the thought of spinning gonads ripping them off of an animal is just wrong.
Someone sent me a link to the second one you mentioned and boy, is it awful. Especially as he calmly plucks the shards of broken glass out of his anus while blood pools and drips all over the floor beneath him. Worse, he has visible scars all over his buttocks so I don’t think that was a first for him, either.
You know, it’s so interesting that horrifies you. I’m pretty sure I saw that woman on Oprah and she seemed like just the nicest person. She said, ‘‘I only let myself cry once a day.’’ I remember feeling moved and inspired.
It was shocking, though, how badly someone can be disfigured and survive to tell about it.
I think the woman on Oprah more recently is a different one, if I remember correctly she was terribly disfigured after being attacked by her pet chimp - chimps can be very strong .
I could be wrong, but I really don’t want to google to remind myself.
Oh, I’m not aware of the woman attacked by a chimp (really? yeesh.) The woman I saw on Oprah was years ago – possibly even a decade ago. She was a Latina woman who got trapped in her burning car as a young woman; I’m pretty sure that is the same person described above.
I found that disturbing too, and I’m glad the husband of the woman let Metra play it, because it’s scary. Too many people don’t know or don’t care that you absolutely should not cross the tracks when the bells are going/lights are flashing. The people crossing the tracks thought the train was stopping in the station and thus figured they could cross over and thus board, but no, it was an express going ~50 mph.
There’s another one from years ago where a man and a woman are walking in front of a stopped Metra train. Gates are down, lights are flashing, and the bell is ringing. From what I’ve seen, if just the one train is stopped, the gate bells don’t ring. They do if there’s another train coming. The man looks past the train and kind of jumps back; the woman doesn’t. There was a train heading the same direction as the stopped train, and you can tell that it hits her, but the camera cuts. (A man had set up a video camera trackside to film another train that was due to pass through later on, and caught this instead.) I always expected there would have been a horrible mess.
Later on I was searching for that video again, and came upon the uncut version. There wasn’t a visible mess. When the woman is hit, she just goes limp like a crash test dummy or something. I actually found that more comforting than what I expected it would have been like.
How could the human brain ever conceive of such an act?
One woman just sat there, feet/legs in the fire and just taking it. Smoke (steam?!) was coming from her mouth as she sat. Men beat the women with sticks. I wish that tomorrow all religion would disappear and science and philosophy would take its place.
Now to add mine, so that I’m not disrupting the thread:
Other than the previous film, the most disturbing thing I have watched on purpose was the before mentioned guy that had glass break after inserting into his rectum. The calmness that he showed as he pulled the shards from himself as the blood pooled really sickened me. But at least he was doing it to himself.
The woman who was burned very badly in a drunk-driving accident is Jacqueline Saburido. The link is Wikipedia; there is one small picture that you do not have to enlarge if you don’t want to.
