What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Not today, but Saturday at a great vintage car show. Goliath 1100.

At the car place - a mid-late 60’s Chevy Impala Tempest SS & a newish grey over grey w/ burgundy interior 911 turbo; both were automatics & both had red brake calipers. Very different but equally nice in their own ways.

Not entirely true. Car makers don’t think American’s want wagons, or hatchbacks, & therefore don’t sell them here. The few hatches are mostly small, cheap, first-car econoboxes with a few luxury models (Audi A7, Porsche Panamera) at the other end of the cost spectrum. A decent sized & mid-priced 5-door is a rarity.

Speaking of which, I also saw an '86 Chevy Caprice full sized wagon w/ suicide (rear-facing) seats in the back on Sat. It had a It ski rack on the roof & Jeep mag wheels all around. Seriously, they said, “Jeep” on the hub.

The line between “crossover”, “wagon”, and “hatchback” has gotten so blurred you could argue that they do sell wagons and hatchbacks, they just call them crossovers. I’ve formed the opinion that the majority of modern crossovers are essentially just tall station wagons. And the smaller ones are essentially hatchbacks with a lift kit.

And speaking of that, yesterday I saw an 80s era Caprice sedan modified as a “hi-riser” or “donk”. Not really my style, but if the owner likes it then more power to them. And it was certainly the most interesting car I saw.

And what I actually came to this thread to post, today I saw a restored Model A sedan driving through my neighborhood.

I saw a Model-T. Not under it’s own power, it was up on a trailer. It had a “Clergy” badge on the back.

While looking at the RS6 I mentioned earlier I was a little surprised at its size (it weighs 5000 pounds). While looking at it I felt it was approaching a crossover in size. If a crossover is 3/4 of an SUV this is 3/4 of a crossover. (made up numbers but I hope it gets the idea across)

I saw an International pickup truck this morning. I initially mistook it for a Scout when I saw it coming towards me, but as I passed it I saw it had a pickup bed.

A black Porsche 928 on the freeway this morning. I wonder if it was the same one I posted about previously? Guessing so, since you never see 928s anymore.

Haven’t been out yet today, but yesterday I saw a Corvair 95 rampside pickup. Kelly green with a white stripe.

A 91-93 Cherokee XJ in metallic blue that looked completely stock.

A Tesla with a bizarre rose metallic treatment

There was a BMW with an almost identical paint job in my old neighborhood in San Diego. You’d definitely never lose your car in a parking lot.

Actually, I quite like that paint job. But the fingerprints and bug remains must be a pain to remove so it can stay shiny.

Race weekend so lots of interesting cars, including a Tesla. But most interesting, and saddest, was watching a well-maintained Viper spin off course and hit the concrete barrier. Driver was fine, thank goodness to safety features of race cars.

On my walk today I saw a Toyota Mirai fuel cell powered car parked about a block from my house. It’s not very often that a Toyota could be more interesting than the shiny new mid-engined Corvette I saw this morning.

So that’s what the car I couldn’t identify Thursday was. Came down our street heading for the fancy car wash/detailing center. I was trying to identify it but the sound threw me off even though it looks like it belongs in the Prius family.

Saw a few this weekend. First a yellow VW Thing waiting for the ferry in Orient Point Long Island. I think I’ve seen it there before, running some sort of shuttle for people arriving on the ferry. The second was a Chevy Impala with the most wonderful fail fins. Not sure which year is was, maybe a 1953. Finally, on the drive home, the best of the weekend. A beautifully restored Chevy COE pickup from the mid-50s I think. I’ve only seen a few of them in the wild.

Just yesterday, a 2nd generation Lincoln Towncar, in Belfast. Don’t envy them the MPG with the price of unleaded here.

Didn’t have a chance to post this earlier but last Thursday was an early 90s Supra with a set of what looked like street legal drag tires and an LS swap. It sounded…mean.

Local car show this weekend. There were a bunch of Tesla’s; ummm, why? They’re not quite a dime a dozen around here, more like a quarter a dozen (ie. not rare); however, there was one Roadster amongst them. First one of those I’ve seen for realz. It had the sticker laminated - I could have easily bought a couple of my roadster, including lifetime fuel & maint & still had enough left over for a more practical vehicle for that price.

However, in my mind, the star of the show was a 1953 Packard convertible

Was it Cars & Coffee? Some of them are reopening for the first time after Covid and these peeps all want to show off what they bought while working from home. I bet they did not realize there would be a lot of competition.

While biking I saw a perfectly cherry looking black Trans Am. Man, those were sweet looking cars!
