What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Seems to be a pretty popular conversion.

Here’s a gift link to a New York Times article about why the Miata is popular for off-road conversion; older examples are relatively cheap, they’re reliable and fun to drive.

Kind of reminds me of the similar conversions you sometimes see on VW Beetles, so called Baja Bugs. Should we call these “Bajiatas”?

This also makes them very popular club racers around the country. If there’s a road course around, there will be Miatas racing on it.

Saw this rod on a walk today, any help on the ID? I didn’t see any markings anywhere on except a bit on the grill.

Almost completely dechromed '41 Chevy business coupe.

Yup, that’s a perfect match. Danke.

Lamborghini Urus, same bright green as in the photo. The one I saw was more sparkly in the sun but that might be one of the $10-20K capsule upgrades… Nice looking and I’m sure it’s fast but it just doesn’t look like a quarter million bucks. Subtle flex, I guess.

This is still parked there. I really wonder who owns a car like this and parks it outside for well over a week.

I saw a new Ford Maverick in traffic today. I’m pretty sure it’s the first one I’ve seen in the wild.

Then I saw an Isuzu Ascender ahead of me in the In-N-Out drive-thru line. I’m sure it’s just a badge engineered GM SUV of some sort, I think all of Isuzu’s models were at the end before they left the US market entirely. But the Isuzu badged versions are fairly rare compared to the Chevy/GMC badged ones.

Meyers Manx EV

OK, it’s notional at this point, but I want!

Most car people know this trivia, but REO is spelled from the initials of Ransom E. Olds. He founded REO after GM bought out Olds.

That’s something I know from doing crossword puzzles.

Have any of you car folks been to the (Detroit) Woodward Dream Cruise?

It’s going on this weekend.

mmm

This may not count as super interesting, but it was the most interesting car I saw yesterday. It was a Tesla Model X. What made it interesting (to me) is that I had no idea they had gull wing (rear) doors. I was helping her out with some boxes and it was really nice not having to lean around a door to set some heavy boxes on the back seat.
Even more interesting, again, to me, is that Tesla’s gull wing doors can be opened, and allow you to enter/exit, in tighter spots that traditional doors would allow.
Seems like a lot of potential points of failure, but still neat.

2nd Generation (1968-70) Dodge Charger R/T in a beautiful deep blue. Parked on the street just up from our house.

I’ve heard of it, but never been. I would probably pick the Laguna Seca Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion vintage event that is paired with the Pebble Beach Councours d’Elegance that is wrapping up on Sunday.

The local news made a point of stating that Leno passed up the Pebble Beach event to attend the Woodward cruise.

I’m not big into muscle cars. Google Lens tells me this is a 2021 Dodge Challenger, but what struck me were the tires with sidewalls painted “Plymouth Hemi Cuda.” I’m guessing this and the paint job are mimicking an earlier car? Perhaps a Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda?

Correction: 2012 Challenger.

I just got back from Laguna Seca today and I gotta say it was pretty glorious. I have no doubt I would enjoy the Dream Cruise, but as my tastes lean to race cars and vintage European exotics, Monterey would always be my first choice
