What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Oh, I disagree. Some drive Porsches, but Audi is a very acceptable brand. Plenty of of Nerdorks have money precisely because Nerdork.

I didn’t realize Nerdork was a thing.

Here’s a nice one. A very clean, black Alfa Spider Veloce.

The Porsche 928. The older it gets the more I like its styling.

Bumper to bumper, stop-and-go, slow-and-go traffic. Leaving the SF Bay Area for the long weekend.

We’re heading to LA for the weekend. There should be some nice cars down there.

Enjoy the long holiday weekend everybody!

Lotsa road bugs.

While sitting at my desk I saw the 57 Chevy that my wife spotted the other day cruising by. No hood, massive supercharger on top of the engine, deep throaty roar, cherry red.

Today in Southern California, in the LA area, on the freeways I saw a pink BMW M4 convertible with black top. In this extreme heat, up to 107 today, the top was up and the AC had to be on.

The pink actually worked on the car. It looked pretty good.

And then later as traffic was building up but still flowing at 65, the Honda Civic Type Rs we’re racing fast. They came up from behind us, smashing through the gaps between the cars, and soon they were gone. The way they smashed through, changing lanes and shooting the gaps, they looked like some kind of centipede in an arcade game.

Very mechanically interesting cars, those '61-'63 Tempests. They had a front engine / rear transmission drive train with a flexible driveshaft held in place with three bearings. You could get a four cylinder or an aluminum(!) V8, with your choice of manual or automatic transmission.

A red Alfa Romeo 4C Spider in the Wegman’s parking lot. I didn’t realize that they’ve stopped making it.

I was in Southern California over the weekend. Got back early this morning to beat the traffic, and the lane closures due to wildfire.

Cars spotted on Rodeo Dr in Beverly Hills yesterday, with pictures —

BMW X6 M50i
Corvette C8 in hi-viz yellow
Corvette C8 in a unique blue
Mercedes-Benz S580 4.0L biturbo V8, in black
Mercedes-Benz sedan in matte silver
Lamborghini convertible, in black
Ferrari, in red
BMW X6
Rolls-Royce Ghost, 2 of them, 1 black and 1 white, parked next to each other
Porsche SUV in bright yellow, followed by a Bentley and a Mercedes-Benz G wagen
Rolls-Royce Ghost Drophead Coupe (convertible)
Bentley Bentayga
Tesla X Plaid

Racing at my “home” track, a Lola T-70. Oh yeah! The one in the link is not the car I saw, but the car I saw was an original, and not one of the kit cars that is available now.

Nice! The T-70 is a longtime favorite of mine. They had a nice one on display at Laguna Seca a couple of weeks ago.

That yellow Porsche suv is actually a Lambo so you can cross another square off your supercar bingo sheet!

Oh thanks!

Talking of SUVs, I saw my first Aston Martin SUV (the DBX) today. It’s an odd looking thing - it narrows significantly in the passenger compartment at the back. In photos I think they’re going for the sort of “haunches” that something like the Jaguar F-type has from the wide rear wheel arches, but it just makes it look like somebody has pinched the back of it, and that the rear seats would be cramped.

Coincidentally I saw it on my way to work just after a Lamborghini Urus (in medium grey, an odd colour for a Lambo - not the usual dark matt carbon fibre grey, just shiny medium grey paint) and just before the Maserati SUV that’s usually parked along this road. I think the Maserati is the largest of the three - it’s the only one that looks like a full SUV really. I’ve always thought the Urus has a very low roof for its size, which would mean there wasn’t enough headroom for me. A friend has a Range Rover Estoque which is similar, and I bang my head getting into it. Seems odd to make an SUV and then make it too small to comfortably sit in!

There are two more Lamborghinis parked outside the Shard today as well - two Aventadors, in matt black / carbon fibre, and red. The carbon fibre one was a spyder model I think (roof up). I’m not sure about the other, but they both had the range of extra spoilers, intakes, splitters and so on. I know I probably see more of these things than average, but three Lamborghinis (so far) in a day, before getting to work, is more than usual for me.

The Excalibur / Mercedes replica above reminded me of a 1980s Rolls Royce that was parked in the carpark at Denham station in the same out-of-the-way spot every day for a few weeks recently, every time I went past on the train. Not because it looks anything like it but because I wondered whether it had been abandoned there… it was in good condition from the outside but I couldn’t imagine somebody leaving a Rolls Royce out in long term parking in an open station car park like that otherwise. After a couple of weeks, it went, so either the owners came back from holiday or somebody else claimed it.

The woman over the road from my parents treated herself to a new sports car - a new MX5 / Miata in dark metallic blue. They’ve always been nice little cars but the current model looks great. (I just checked and apparently it’s been around since 2014 so not exactly new, I must just not have been paying attention.)

The most interesting vehicle I was today was a motorcycle whose owner is going to get himself killed. He was doing wheelies and very aggressive ones at that, leaning way back from center. Then, he did some wheelie … dancing? … where he’d cross his legs back and forth, then jump on the seat. Throw in some unnecessary swerving before running two red lights in a row. We got into an area with a lot more traffic and he again swerved, this time into oncoming lanes to pass some cars. When I last saw him, he was lane splitting which isn’t legal here.

Funny you should mention but it was gone today. It was parked there for over a month.

Sorry for two posts in a row but I saw this yesterday and had to turn around for a couple shots (click the link for a second pic of the rear):

Clean lines, great paint, chrome looked amazing, interesting car. I think it’s about an '85.

1st generation (1981-93) Dodge Ram 150 pickup, looked to be in great shape.

Series II (1958-61) Land Rover that has lived a good life.

I came around a corner after my run this afternoon and saw what I assumed was a black Miata, but it had an Abarth badge on the front end. Then I spotted the Fiat 124 Spider badge. I looked it up and found out it really was a rebadged Miata from the late 2010s. I never knew this car existed.
