I think Lucid is building a winner of a car but I have trouble with that toupee styling where the top is in a different color than the body.
The Superformance branding and the fact that they aren’t in closed carriers leads me to believe those are both kits rather than originals.
Whenever I see a “Cobra” on the road I pretty much always assume it’s a replica.
Yeah, but I’ve made the mistake of referring to a real one as a replica and caught the owner’s ire. Way beyond what was necessary.
I have a friend that owned a real GT40 that he’d drive to local car events. People would often call it a replica as well and he’d just smile and nod his head.
I’m always sort of unsure when I see a Porsche 356, too. Apparently there are a lot of replicas out there built on VW chassis.
I’ve driven one of those replicas on track, and it was a blast. I don’t remember what engine the owner had stuck in it, but it had a lot of torque.
I’ve never driven one of the originals, so I can’t compare. But I felt perfectly fine pushing the replica as hard as I wanted to, which I probably wouldn’t have done with the real thing for fear of doing some damage.
I suspect that pushing the replicas hard is better than the originals even if you take money out of the equation. The Superformance cars have built on fifty years of experience and I believe are more robustly engineered than the originals ever were.
When I drive my 356 I get a lot of questions of, “Is it real or is or a kit car?”. And it doesn’t bother me that people all that.
@Pork_Rind that cobra owner needs to get a grip on life.
The real thing was built on a VW chassis. The 356 was literally the most Super of Beetles. Porsche didn’t diverge from VW until the 911 and even then they never got out of bed with them.
I thought that was the case, but I was too lazy to look it up and didn’t want to put my foot in my mouth.
Third generation Honda Prelude, with four wheel steering according to the badge on the B pillar.
I’m too lazy to look it up right now, so I’m not sure if all the Preludes from that generation had 4WS, or just certain trims, or if it was an option.
I’ve fallen behind. I took these pictures but hadn’t posted them.

Anywhere between '48 & '53. I wonder if someone bought a '53 to celebrate an anniversary of the founding of the company.
Rivian pickup, nothing too interesting about that by itself. But we’re at aski area in Maine and the temps last night were -26F.
One thing about these EVs is that you can easily prewarm the cabin remotely. I imagine you could set that to go at a certain time of the day. It’s just software.
and more importantly: the battery pack … b/c you cant really charge Lithium batteries at those friggin-cold temps without destroying them
I know you can barely see it, but that’s an early 90’s Grand Prix in the center lane. I think my grandma had the same one.
And then there’s this. I saw this car in a Menard’s parking lot and spent a few minutes in the lot and probably a mile on the road trying to get it in front of me. I’m not a fan of gold, but this actually looked pretty slick with the way the windows were tinted. I’m curious if they were trying to make it look like a Rolls Royce (or Chrysler 300). It seems like a color scheme they’d use.
Also, it’s a Kia Optima.
Unrelated, but I saw it at the same time (and I just noticed the tags are expired)
Cracks me up about the Optima. I suspect that someone either works for a professional wrapping service or got a bargain because a family member works there. Good for them. Pimping out a car these days can get expensive fast. I don’t like gold trim either but this one works quite well.
A beautiful military Land Rover w/ 4-cyl diesel engine, right hand drive. This rig is a veteran of the Iraq war.
The owner even took me for a test ride! He said he needed to start the engine anyway, to which I said Well, why don’t we take her around the block?
That little 4-banger diesel really MOVES!
