Nice. Our PCA chapter (LPR, Loma Prieta Region, and 356CAR, California Alta Region) gathered last Wednesday to celebrate the life of Ralph E. Maines who passed away last month. Most of us didn’t bring our cars because parking was tight, but there were a few 356s there.
A year ago in May, we gathered for Ralph’s 88th birthday. My wife and I, and her parents, can be seen in the video.
20 years ago Ralph helped us inspect a nice 1963 356 Cabriolet my wife wanted, and 20 years later our 356 is still running strong.
R.I.P., Ralph, and thank you for all you’ve done. And that’s what she said!
Don’t know if this qualifies, but I saw some Polaris Reverse Trikes on my way to the grocery store today. (I walk past this place all the time–they have some neat machines in their parking lot!)
My vote is that it counts. I’ve noted a motorcycle here before. And those Polaris machines look like sports cars. And at $20K each they cost about as much as a car.
Just got back from a trip to Italy, lots of very interesting cars on this trip. But I love the tiny micro cars that are available, didn’t get all their names but some are adorable. Plus lots of Alfas, Citroens, and Renaults that I never get to see here.
There were two Lotus Elises at the race event I attended over the weekend. Also visible, though not competing, was a restored AMX. Don’t see many of those around.
72° & sunny early this morning, I was behind a clean & shiny classic Mata with the top down that you could just tell was garage-kept & only came out on days like this; bet that top hasn’t been up in years.
Euclid Beach Amusement Park hasn’t existed in almost 50 years. One of the big rides there consisted of a high tower, with 3 big chrome “rocket” cars spinning around it, each holding at least a dozen passengers.
Yesterday, I saw one of the rocket cars, filled with waving people, driving down a major avenue.
Two yesterday, the cars weren’t remarkable the I liked the accessories.
Bright orange Audi TT convertible with the license plate CLKWRK
A pale blue VW Beetle convertible (not the current model, the one introduced a few years ago) with eyelashes on the headlights and a windup key on the back that spun in the wind.
At a stoplight in the middle of the city I saw a Ural motorcycle, with a sidecar, surprisingly driven by a woman. Urals are rare, sidecars are rare, I don’t think I’ve seen a female driving either one before.
Sometimes you might wish you had forward-facing missiles on your car.
I see more and more of those BMW i3 electric cars. It’s almost a daily occurrence now. Their wheels are large-diameter, and narrow - 155/70-19s. For lower rolling resistance, I guess.
I saw a clapped out TR-7 today. Strangely, the paint job was fantastic and shiny, but the money should have been spent on the suspension. It’s amazing the the thing could turn a corner.
