What's the most interesting car you saw today?

A beautiful 1953 Nash Rambler convertible in factory new condition.

A 2016 VF Commodore SSV ute 375KW 6.2L V8 6speed manual.
I asked if I could run it in for him, he said no.

Last weekend, I saw an H-M Free-Way. That was kind of weird.

Ok, this will make your skin crawl. Pulled into a convenience store on Cape Cod Saturday. What was in the spot next to me?

A Ford Pinto.

I had a sudden urge to buy marshmallows…

Can’t recall if I shared this already, but last summer at a local sports car tuning and restoration shop I saw something I’ve never seen before: Auto Union 1000SP (a.k.a. Audi). It was a red coupe with white roof, awaiting restoration.

Yesterday, a mid 90s Dodge pickup two tone green and white, slammed with 20 inch black 5 spoke wheels. Normally I hate lowered pickups but this one just had the right blend of ugly and cool. The driver replaced the stock mirrors with small round ones mounted higher up. It worked in a weird sort of way.

Slingshot SL LE. Weird. Also, more expensive than I’d have guessed.

A 1996 Chevy Impala SS in Dark Cherry Metalic. Even though the Caprice version of that car looked like a beached whale, the Impala still managed to look a little menacing.

The wheels and tires made a big difference in the appearance. In 1996 the Impala SS looks nice compared to the Caprice.

Yesterday was interesting. First, in a driveway there was a matching pair of silver Honda Insights parked side by side. His and hers, apparently. I wonder if the license plates were personalized. Anyway it was almost picture worthy.

Then, a nice silver Mazda RX-8. Uncommon.

Then a 1963 ivory Porsche 356B cabriolet. I have one also, the same model, color and black boot for the lowered top (some are tan) and followed the guy to where he stopped down the block. It has been in his family since brand new, a German factory delivery for his grandfather. My wife has had hers for 20 years, she (we) are the third owner of our California car. We exchanged contact info, he is local. I’m sure we’ll get together soon.

It was on the other side of the highway so I can’t be sure, but something like a 70-72 Challenger in bright yellow. Also a Cadillac XLR with the top down.

E-type Jaguar, slightly faded red but pretty well cared for otherwise.

Drool.

I saw my first Tesla X on the road.

Then I saw a black Audi A8L, parked. At the top of the windshield it had large letters, in reverse, (so you could read them in your rearview mirror) - “Keep Right”

A late 1960s Jaguar 420 caught my eye today. It was parked and I doubled back to check it out. It’s a right-hand drive model.

After walking around the car, a loud noise approached from overhead. A B-17 Flying Fortress directly overhead and low, on landing approach to Moffett Airfield!

Driving away, not 10 blocks from the Jag was an early 1940s Chevrolet car, parked, mostly covered but the front end was exposed. I only know it’s a Chevy from the logo on the nose.

Just as I was about to leave yet another loud noise approached from overhead. A B-24 Liberator, low and slow on landing approach!

Two old cars and two old planes, in a span of 10 minutes. I love living 3 miles from Moffett Federal Airfield, in line with its runway.

It’s car show season in Carlisle, and this weekend is the import show. I saw not one, not two, but THREE Opel GTs in a row. I also saw two TVRs. The first was a '70s 1800 M coupe and the second was a 1987 280i.

Lots of exotic stuff in town this weekend.

A 1960 Chevy station wagon in a used car lot that often features a classic or two amid the run-of-the-mill late-model sedans and SUVs.

1970 MG GT, orange

A couple from the past few days:

  • A Lamborghini Aventador (I think, it was on the opposite side of the highway and going really, really fast)

  • A VW bug dune buggy, haven’t seen one of those in ages

  • A 50’s Ford Fairlane (distinctive side trim)

A 1959 Jeep Forward Control. Very unique. Right now it is a project but the owner is working to get it on the road.

Saw an Alpina yesterday. Never seen one in the wild. I think it was the one based on the current BMW 5 series.
