What's the most interesting car you saw today?

Today, another Porsche 911 Targa, the new Targa, in black and with the new, retro yellow-on-black CA license plates. It was in San Francisco.

They are not common, and I’ve only seen six since approx 2014. I’ve posted about each of them, all I’ve ever seen, in this thread. Maybe I’m a little obsessed with them.

Here is a history of the ones I’ve seen:

2014-Aug (approx), post #1027: at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the first time I’d ever seen one

2016-05-12, post #1099: black one, in Redwood City at a specialty car sales place

2016-09-05, post #1261: red one, near Klamath Falls OR – my 1st in ‘the wild’!

2016-09-18, post #1291: black one, in San Jose CA – 2nd in the wild

2016-10-01, post #1318: light tan one, in San Jose CA – 3rd in the wild

2017-03-15, post #1481: light blue, in Palo Alto CA – 4th in the wild

2017-06-06, post #1601: black, with black CA plates, in San Francisco – 5th in the wild

Two electric cars that I didn’t know about. First was a MB B-Class Electric drive. I didn’t even know the B-Class was still sold in the US market, but I guess they needed an electric vehicle. And the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid at the office charging station.

A ~1960 Imperial. Looked a lot like this.

OMG, those tail fins. And the high tail lights. Like something out of a bad 50s SciFi film.

I saw one too! Unfortunately I was on the way to a funeral, but that car is something else.

Nice car! Now, the “Q4” indicates that it’s a four cylinder, correct? Somewhere just south of 300 horsepower? Because you know, they do make one with a Ferrari V-8 that makes well over 500hp…

I parked next to my car twin yesterday and talked to the driver. My 02 BMW looks her years – this guy’s was showroom-quality, absolutely pristine. He let me look over the interior, which was all OEM.

Turns out he was German and had worked in BMW’s design division for decades; he was part of the team that designed the E39! He wasn’t interested in restoring my car pro bono :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, the Quadrifoglio does not have a Ferrari V8; it’s a twin-turbo V6 that is basically a Ferrari V8 with two cylinders chopped off.

Nice car, QuickSilver.

Q4 is their AWD platform. Oodles of grip. Drove it in the rain like it was stolen and it was superb.

But yes, this is the 4cyl 280bhp engine. Adequate.

They did not have the QF in the dealership. I plan to return when they have one to test drive.

But I’m not foolish enough to buy either one just yet. I read the electronics are glitch as he’ll.

A red IH ScoutII with the top down.

I see those around quite a bit. They were built here and a lot of the guys that built them, bought them and still have 'em.

Not today, but I saw this Packard Patrician in an outdoor “museum” along the Rio Grande on the way to Taos a couple of weeks ago.

Yesterday, on the way to work, I saw a 1982 Mercedes 630 SL convertible. Ugly 80s boxy rear end but in beautiful condition and being driven by someone who truly knew how to drive. A pleasure to watch him at the wheel.

Might want to check your numbers there. As far as i’m aware, there was no such car. I think it was 280, 380, and 500 in the early eighties.

There was a nice Alfa Romeo Giulia parked just down the street, but I have no idea what year it was. It seemed to be an older model, though.

Was going to post this the day I saw it but totally forgot.

1956 Ford F-100 that had just drove off a farm or was restored to appear like it did. Either way, very unusual for this suburban area.

I think it’s classified as a motorcycle, but saw a Polaris Slingshot in the Chipotle parking lot at lunch today. First one I’ve seen out this year. Pretty slick.

Speaking of Alfa Romeos, I saw a C4 Coupe at the airport in FL the other day. Very sharp looking car, I looked up the specs and was surprised that it only has 237 HP. The performance numbers look reasonable, but it’s not going to be a screamer.

Two cars of note this weekend in Edmonton. First a pristine TR-7 in medium blue and an early 80s Malibu Wagon with Rallye wheels, big boots in the back, and a big, growly V-8. He also had it painted with matte black bed liner but kept the chrome and had it all stickered with “Mad Max Edition” and mock barbed wire around the bumpers. It sounds cheesy but it was very well done.

A black Fisker Karma during my commute home just now.
I’ve seen it before (it has a vanity plate), still turns my head.

A VW eGolf, another electric vehicle that I didn’t know existed.
