What's the one place you've been to that no other Doper has visited?

Bottom of the lighthouse at St. Marks (FL) Wildlife Refuge, on the Gulf Of Mexico?
To quote my relatives in Gweedore: ‘Teelin’s a long way at this time, isn’t it?’
Indeed, indeed. Most of the family is in Killybegs and Glencolmcille, but I believe we still have property in Teelin. Scariest drive I’ve ever been on, over the mountain.
How about on top of Sugar Loaf Mountain looking out over Lake Superior?

Then I s’pose you’ve been to Hancock, Houghton, Calumet, and Copper Harbor, too?
Oooh! I have! I camped on a plain of stamp sand at the very tip of the Keeweenaw Peninsula. I’ll bet no one else on the Dope has ever been to that particular patch of stamp sand. Oh, I’m suddenly hungry for pasties. I’ll have to go back to the UP soon.

And…my list of small OH towns is still standing. Could it be that I have a personal winner? Too bad I still haven’t been anywhere cool that the rest of you have not, though…

Elida, NM.
Wyoming! (Yes), RI
Florida, MA
Peru, MA
North Walcott, VT
the (former) NIKE Missile Base, Squantum, MA

Whitefish, MT.

I did a century there this July. The day after their hottest day on record. Pretty, particularly up around Star Meadows. Kind of stark once you get into the forest fire damage up towards North Fork.

I find it hard to believe that I’m the only Doper to have eaten in the Congressional Dining room, or whatever it’s called (a half-assed Googling produced nothing).

Maybe the others who have done so, just haven’t seen this thread yet.
I have, but not for 20 years.

On that note, how about the House floor during session?

How about Iron Bridge, Ontario?
Florida, MA
I’ve been there.

I’ve not been to Wyoming, RI. But I have been to Wyoming, NY. And Warsaw, NY, too.

Alaska, MI?
You wouldn’t happen to have been there in June/July 1978, with a program called “Israel Summer Happening,” would you? If so, not only have we both been to all those places, but were actually there at the same time. Now that would be freaky cool.
 No, it would have been in the winter, although I can’t remember the exact date. I was living in Jerusalem at the time and went on a trip to Sinai with a friend and her family. We spent the first night in Nuweiba or Dahab, sleeping on the beach in a sandstorm, and another night at the youth hostel in Sharm.
I was referring to the one in Burnett Country, northeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul and straight south of Duluth-Superior.

But I did learn something. I didn’t know there are two Webster, WI’s.
I have been to Webster, WI.

I’ll see your Webster, and raise you one Ino, WI.

Anyone been through Young America, MN? It is famous for rebate mailing addresses. One of my rellies came from far away, and said when she saw the sign , “I always thought that town was fake when I’d write the address.”

Alaska, MI?

Had ribs at Sam’s Joint there. Pretty tasty.

So has no one else been to Damascus, Syria? How about Beitedine, Tripoli, Baalbek and Tyre in Lebanon? Vilcabamba and Montanita, Ecuador?

Shattuck, Oklahoma.
Population 1,200 SA-LUTE!!!

The ice cream store / marina on the shoreline of Lake Joseph, Muskoka-area, Ontario?

I once hauled about thirty Co2 cylinders out of the fuel storage room for the generator under the War Room that kept Strategic Air Command powered up in case of a nuclear attack. We took them back to our shop for testing, then returned them to service a few days later.

Oonakayama, Nanaecho, Hokkaido, Japan. Farming community maybe 20 miles outside of Hakodate on the way to Sapporo. I spent a total of about 3 weeks there in 1979 with the Tomihara family, when the kids were between 5 and 12. I think of them often, those kids, sweet and unspoiled. The youngest would be about 32 now. sigh…

Roddy

OK, I’ll throw out Nouakchott, Mauritania (W Africa).

If you’ve used some latrines just north of the “city”…I may have dug those!

I’m also sure that very few people have visited some of the local oases with semi-nomadic herdsmen.

Semi-funny story…I was told by my predecessor in the Peace Corps to bring a 5th of a very specific brand of whiskey…Maker’s Mark. I had to have my parents ship me a case (I figured it would be useful later). When it arrived, the case was an 18-pack.

This should be duplicative, but how about Lake Kawnipi, Ontario? Lake Saganaga?
OK, how about standing on the highway between Regina and Saskatoon, with nothing but prairie from horizon to horizon?
Ohh ohhh… that would be me!! It is so beautiful… just…NOTHING for miles and miles and miles… wait! There’s a song in there! The “Land of the Living Skies” indeed. Some of the most amazing sunsets to be had are in Saskatchewan.

Anyone been to Pueblo, Colorado? Last I heard you could order your own copy of the Consumers Information Guide (according to the TV commercial).

How about Clear, Alaska, or Kodiak Island? I grew up in Alaska. “Old Sourdough Joe” was the host of the afternoon TV show for kids.

Great thread!

A very long time ago I flew with Roberta Reeve, whose family owned Reeve Aleutian Airways, based in Anchorage. I’ve posted in this thread before but now am reminded that I’ve also been to Cold Bay, Adak and Shemya, Alaska.

Anyone else had the pleasure?

Pygmy Rugger, you are not alone. I, as well, have been to Itacare. One word: gorgeous.

So, I’ll see your Itacare, and raise you The Farol do Calcanhar in Rio Grande do Norte state AND a visit to the A Careca dune in Natal. It’s off limits to visitors now, but I climbed to the top while it was still legal.
