What's the one place you've been to that no other Doper has visited?

I stood in the middle of the old RCA recording studio in Hollywood, in the same room where The Rolling Stones recorded “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and Harry Nilsson made albums, and hundreds of other records that we all know were made.

Williamsville, VA.

Whitefish, MT.

Arkansas City, KS.

Allendale, SC.

When were you there? '62 for me. I was only there a couple of months. Received oders to Ca. for a tech. school and then to Midway Ils.

Cowden, IL.

No, but I’ve driven through Denmark, the next town to the east.

No to the first one. I’ve passed through the other three in the truck.

I’ve driven past Hocking Hills State Park on Rte. 56, so I’m going to say I’ve been through it at least.

I dunno - Sigonella, Sicily? I was there for 6 months in 1983.

How about Nine-mile canyon, UT?

Huasca, Hidalgo, Mexico? (My grandfather was born there and lots of his family still lives there.)

I have been to Timika and the Grasberg Mine where Freeport extracts copper and gold in Irian Jaya (aka West Papua).

If any other Dopers have been there, I’d love to hear how that came about. It isn’t exactly a place you just happen to end up. (I was there on behalf of the Environmental Bamboo Foundation, which was going to propose a program of bamboo planting to assist in mitigating the environmental degradation that results from mining.)

Maybe through it…if not, I’ve been pretty darn close. I’ve been to Lancaster several times. I was going to nominate Philo, Fultonham, and Rix Mills. You can probably triangulate that back to the metropolis where I grew up.

And for exotic, French Louis Caye, Belize.

Ooh, how about Burt, MI? I like this game!

One (for me very exotic one) was Bombala, Australia, where my family got stranded in the mountains with almost no gas after dark, after everything had closed. I tried to explain to them what I’d read in the guide books, but they didn’t listen.

A lovely place and we thought we’d have to offer my cute twenty year old sister up to sleep on the floor of the pub, but got the last motel room.

And everyone throws out all these exotic places. I expect Dopers to go to exotic places–Anyone been to Tomball, Texas?

I could throw in Magnolia, Spring, Klein, Willis and Stagecoach.

I mentioned Dime Box, Tx. earlier.

Its like
Cutnshoot  but I’ve not been to either, but I have wanted to.

I may have gone thru Dimebox. That’s the best city name ever.

Orezzoli, Italy, my great-grandfather’s hometown waythehellup’n’gone in the Apennines.

I’ve also been in the bellchambers of four carillons.

Anybody else been to Germantown, Maryland? The Montgomery County one.

I certainly couldn’t have be the only one that’s been to Dell City, Texas.

Yes to both.

Ukonkivi, a small rock island in Lake Inari, Finland, far above the Arctic Circle. The ancient Saami (Lappish) people used to sacrifice to Ukko (thunder god) there. I spent some of my 40th birthday there.
