I’d actually be really interested to swap stories with anyone who’s been there. It’s where all my family grew up and lives (but none of them are on the Dope).

I’ve driven nearby, on the old Route 17, now I-86, dozens of times, but never stopped in, sorry to say. Website makes it look charming, though. Speaking of Upstate New York, how about the villages of Van Etten, Spencer, Newfield, or Halsey Valley?
Probably the most out-of-the-way place I’ve been is the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary near Hot Springs, SD. Anyone else ever made it over there while on a trip to see Mt. Rushmore?
Leh, Ladakh, in the far northern state of Kashmir and Jammu, in India. Also known as little Tibet, about 4 miles from the cease fire line. And it was an awesome place.
Atlin, British Columbia, Canada. It’s in BC but it’s only accessible, by road, from the Yukon. Very small town, within site of the glacier, beautiful indeed.
San Agustine, Columbia. Again, very small backwater place. Charming, not very well touristed and the site of numerous interesting ruins.

Anybody else been to Germantown, Maryland? The Montgomery County one.
[/QUOTE]
I have.
I can think of a few tiny Maryland burgs: Perryville, Port Deposit and Chesapeake City (Cecil County), Accident (Garrett County) and Parsonsburg (Dorcester).
how about Goshen AR, Boxley AR, Kimberling city MO, Ducktrap ME, Sopchoppy FL, Golconda NV, Shubuta MS? I was going to say Slippery Rock PA but I am pretty sure there are some dopers who have been there.
I have been to Mt LeConte but didn’t spend the night in the trail shelter, I did however spend the night in a privately owned cabin (grandfathered in from when the park was formed) up the fire road from Elkmont campground.
and while I haven’t been to any dopers houses in Arkansas and Tennessee I don’t think there is a town in either of those states I haven’t at least driven through. Been just about everywhere in Mississippi as well.

There’s a little island in Georgian Bay, near the mouth of the Tinnerman River, which wasn’t labelled on any of the (many, extensive) maps my scout troop had. We spent a night there, and of course promptly named it Troop 515 Island.
Of course, unless there are any of my old troopmates on the board, none of you would know which specific island I’m talking about, so you can’t really tell if you were ever there.

OK, I’ll bite. Were you a Greater Cleveland Council scout by any chance? I did 63 miles at Tinnerman canoe base around age 14, including a jaunt out into the Georgian bay to an island. But (a) as you note I have no idea if it’s the same one and (b) I thought those were the French and Pickerel Rivers up there, so we may not even be talking about the same place. I was with Troop 448, not 515.
To answer seriously now, I doubt any of our dopers residing in Japan have been to Isehara. It’s in Kanagawa-ken off the Odakyu line I believe, and there is really no reason to go there what-so-ever. A small city filled with sleazy joints and Yakuza wannabes, it’s nothing special. Other than that part of downtown, it’s all rural. I only know it because of my girlfriend at the time living there.

sure - I worked for Pulte in the 80’s - we built half of it.
When I was in Boy Scouts we went to Lost Valley Scout Camp, a camp right next to Camp Pendleton, and La Bufadora in Mexico (more of a tourist attraction than a place per se).
I’ve eaten in the Congressional Dining room, it was more like a restaurant though. I guess they’re famous for their chili. That was courtesy of Chalmers Wylie, our late congressman.
