What's the replacement cost of everything on your person on an average day?

My grandmother’s diamond ring: $6,000
Sapphire ring: $2,500
Wedding band: $200
Thumb ring: $250
Watch $5
Clothes: Maybe $100 all-told. (I don’t buy expensive clothing.)
Purse: $20
Wallet $50
Medications in purse: $250
Stuffed pig keychain: priceless
All told, almost $9000.

I’m sort of shocked by this number because I’d never thought about it before and never realized what a loss it would be if I lost all of the posessions on my person.

I carry a lot of stuff on me. I hate purses and hate to carry things, so everything but the backpack and clothes are carried in my jacket, so just losing that would probably make me cry for a while.

Glasses: $200
Jeans: $60
Shirt: this one was free, we’ll assume average $15
Shoes: $50 (? not really sure)
Underwear: $5
Bra: $50
Socks: $3
Jacket: $10 from the thrift store
mp3 player: $75
Wallet: $20
Paperback in my pocket: $1.50 (thrift store also)
Cell Phone: $150
Hat: gift made by a friend, irreplaceable
Backpack: $30
Books: don’t even get me started

Total: $719.50, not counting the hat and unknown book costs

Champs t-shirt $4
Kahkis $15
Sandals $9
Underpants $3
Swatch $80
Wedding band $1800
Cellphone (free with plan but cheapo 3-year old, maybe $50)
Car keys ($30 to replace if they didn’t take the car)
Wallet $20 + about $10 in cash

So a wedding band, a watch and $100 worth of sad looking junk

Hmmm…

Hundred bucks for my shoes.
200 for my glasses.
30 for my pants.
20 for my shirt.
20 for my second shirt.
Probably 20-30 cash on me.
Socks probably $5.
Underpants, negligible.
10-30 for whatever book I was carrying at the time.
100 for the CD player.
15-20 for the CD I’m listening to.
15 for the backpack the book and CD player are in.

So…depending just what I have on me, 5-600 dollars.

It varies from day to day, but today the replacement values would have been:

Undies: $10

Cell phone: $100
Wedding set: $800

Contact lenses: $5
Handbag: $25

Cosmetics: $25

$1600

If we count my bookbag ($75) and everything in it (textbooks and laptop), add another grand or so.

Hooo, boy - I’m guessing we’re including the contents of my handbag, because I carry it with me all the time, so I’ll do the outfit I had on last time I went into my office:

Boots = $400
Skirt = $130
Tank top = $75
Jacket = $225
Underwear = $300
Glasses = $400
Ring #1 = $250
Ring #2 = $900
Watch = $600
Necklace = $200
Earrings = $100
Puffer coat = $350
Scarf = $20
Mittens = $15
Purse = $500
Wallet = $100
Cell Phone = $350
MP3 Player = $300
Cosmetics (in purse) = $250
Sunglasses = $500
Misc. stuff in bottom of purse = $25

So…$5,990.00 which is actually better than I thought it would be.

Cheap suit & other clothes: $200
Coat: $300
Glasses: $150
Wallet & contents: $100
Case, music, supplies: $200
Laptop: $2000
Violin: ummm, replacement cost probably somewhere around $10-15k. Need I add it up?

Person:
Shirt: $35
Jacket: $30
Jeans/Pants: $55
Socks: $5
Shoes: $35
Bra: $55
Underwear: $3
Rings: $30
Earrings: $25
Barrette: $10
Necklace: $20
Total: $303

Purse:
Purse: $12
Cell phone: received free, but would have to pay ~$50 for a new one
iPod: it’s an old one, but would have to pay $350 to get a new one
Assorted pens and pencils: $2
Flash drive: $35
Wallet and cash: $100
Change purse and change: $12
Lip gloss: $12
Lip balm: $4
Assorted gift cards: $200
Sunglasses: $15
Checkbook: $5
Box of Altoids: $2
Compact mirror: $8
Keychain, keys and tiny light: $30
Total: $837 (or, not including money and gift cards, $545)

Wow. The money that goes into my purse astounds me.

Stuff I definitely have on me:
Glasses - maybe $200
Watch - not much at all, maybe $20
Sneakers - some stupid amount, like $150
Clothes - varies, of course, but I’d guess around $100 total on average
Wallet/contents - maybe $100
Keys - I guess it’d cost maybe ten or twenty dollars to recut them, so $15
USB Key - $85
Slinky spring - $3.50
Ummmm hair tie - some trivial amount. Okay, I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel now.

So that comes to $673.50.

Now, for stuff I have on me about half the time (depends on if I’m at uni or not, but that’s usually where I am when I’m out and about):
Backpack - Not much, maybe $50
DS, games, totally awesome customised carry case - about $650
Deck of cards - Around $3 I think
Design folder - About $5 insofar as replacing it is possible
Textbooks - I’d guess about $100 on average

So another $808 worth of stuff I sometimes have with me. That’s not too bad.

Also, note that this is all Australian dollars I’m speaking in.

Shirt: $10
Pants: $20
Socks + underwear: $5
Belt: $5
Watch from Target: $10
Shoes: $25
Pocket comb, pen, notepad, wallet: $15
Stuff in wallet: worthless. Certainly no money in there.

GRAND TOTAL: $90

I live in the 'hood, I prefer to roll light. Although occasionally I do carry around an MP3 player worth $120.

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around Alice In Wonderland’s $300 underwear!

Ok…here goes:

Underwear: $40
Jeans: $65
Top: $30
Wedding set: $600
Emerald bracelet: $500
Emerald ring: $300
Necklace: $50?
Glasses: $25 (cheaters…I rarely wear my 'script peeps)
Boots: $150
Purse and contents: $150
Watch: $500
Earrings: $30

TOTAL: $2440

I had no idea my stuff added up to so much! It doesn’t feel like $2440!

Clothes - £60
Underwear - £30
Socks - £1
Handbag - £6
Purse - £7
Cash - £20
Phone - £120
Watch - £100
Ring - £200

Total - £544

What the hell? I didn’t click submit I swear! I was still working on that!

Shoes: $50
Shirt: $10
Pants: $25
Watch: $50
Underwear: $10
Glasses: $400
Wallet: $25 (not including contents)
Car key: $0 – company car; their problem
Cellphone: $0 – company phone; their problem…

Um… that’s it. Unless it’s raining in which case jacket: $100

So call it $570-670, most of which is my glasses.

IOW, the only part I’m really worried about is the contents of my wallet…

I never even got to Alice in Wonderland’s $300 underwear…I stopped at the $75 tank top!

What I wore/carried yesterday:

panties 2.99
bra 7.50
tights 4.50
half-slip 10.00
shoes 9.99
dress 3.00 (cheapy Wal-Mart fabric)
necklace 1.00 (chain from craft store)
watch 15.00
jacket 5.00 (Great Salvation Army shop around here!)
keys 30.OO to recut…didn’t have the car remote yesterday
purse 8.00
wallet, checkbook, various ID 50.00 to replace, based on what I spent last time my purse got stolen
lipstick 10.00
pen 1.00
calendar 5.00
glasses 150.00

For a total of $312.98

And in the tote bag:
yarn 22.00
circular needle 5.00
videotape from library on knitting techniques 75.00

For a grand total of $414.98. Which barely covers Alice in Wonderland’s undies and first layer of clothes!

Shoes: $80
Socks: $8
Slacks: $40
Underwear: $5
Shirt: $30
Belt: $20
Watch: $4500
Wallet: $10
Cash: $100
Ear ring: $8
Shades: $65

So about $4,866.

Based on what I wore outside yesterday:

Glasses: $500
Shirt: $40
T-shirt: $5
Wedding ring: $300
Jeans: $40
Belt: $30
Underwear: $2 (on sale at WalMart)
Socks: $3
Shoes: $80
Jacket: $80
Wallet: $40 (pure guess)
Coin purse: $100 (don’t ask)
Cell phone: $0 (I only use the giveaway models, no bells or whistles)

Total: $1220

If I were wearing my watch, that would be another $2.

Ahem.
Current stats on underwear in this thread:

Average price: $19.01
Average price excluding alice_in_wonderland’s hoity toity outlier(s): $10.23
Median: $3
Number going commando (or wearing underwear of “negligible” worth): 9 (27% of respondents)

OK, I’ll have a go at adding it up…

glasses $600
earrings $90
wedding rings $300
engagement ring $2000
underwear $55
jeans $40
turtleneck $20
fleece $40
shoes $90
That’s a shocking $3235 for stuff on my person alone.

Now to add the contents of my bag

Bag itself $50
wallet $50
inkan (personal seal) $40
business wallet $10
mini accordion file and contents $50
cellphone $300 (I didn’t buy this!!!)
That’s another $600, though if I had to replace the stuff myself I would get a freebie phone as it’s all I need.
Just thinking about how much hassle it would be to replace all my bank books and cards, not to mention the stuff connected with my business that I lug about with me everywhere, and my toes are curling. I think I’m going to be a LOT more selective about what I take out with me from now on…
