What's up, Yarnies?

I am a terrible person who hasn’t finished several presents from last year! So I should be knitting:

-the tiger eye lace socksfrom Socks Socks Socks in red Jawoll
-a pair of men’s gloves from Selbuvotter in dark brown and white Alpaca Elegance

But I’m also working on another pair of Selbuvotter gloves for myself in brown and white Koigu KPM (they were too small for the intended recipient, hence the second pair mentioned above) and a modified version of these fingerless mitts (I added a thumb gusset) in cream Rowan Calmer left over from making Shedir.

This is why I have trouble finishing things.

I think I’m going to cast on Branching Out from Knitty for my sister as soon as I finish a very basic hat in two colors of Knit Picks Palette for my son and a second pair of Fuzzy Feet for my husband. The hat and fuzzy feet aren’t for Christmas, but the the scarf will be. I foresee lots of fuzzy feet for others for Christmas. If you like socks, but you also like semi-instant gratification and felting, this is a great pattern for you.

I always have socks going. I’m on the toe of the second sock of a pair I hate. I hate the yarn, I hate that I made the second leg too long but chose not to fix it. I hate that I ran an experiment and finished the toe of the first one with a three needle bind off. But, I feel like I have a curse to break since I didn’t finish a sock all summer so there you are. I am also working on a 4 x 2 rib sock in some gorgeous yarn I can’t remember the name of. So, so springy. Someone may get that for Christmas.

Branching Out is one of those patterns that keeps calling my name. I’ve done practice swatches, so I know I can knit the pattern, and it’s just so gorgeous, but I want to do it in a yarn that’s worthy of it (rather than the cheapo Red Heart I did the practice swatches in), and I just can’t justify spending on a nice fingering/lace-weight for a scarf I’m never going to wear (because let’s face it, if you’ve met me, you know that Branching Out is NOT my style) at the moment.

Ooh, that’s a lovely pattern. What yarn are you going to use?

Too broke this year to start any new projects. Depressing.

I think I’m going to make Branching Out as well.

I’m trying to get motivated to finish my sister’s cardigan-ized Rogue. It’s so, so close to being finished. The back, sleeves, pockets are all done, and the fronts are past where the neckline divide would be if it were being knit as a pullover. I put it down when I moved last February, and have gotten sidetracked by way too many shiny new projects.

Still, I’ve finished two pairs of socks for her (Spring Forwards, and Monkeys), and some Fetching mitts for another family member. (Most of my family would appreciate the thought – and then not wear hand-knits.)

And… I’ve got a Central Park Hoodie, a Wing o’ the Moth shawl, and two more pairs of socks in progress. (I have a small bag that lives in my car that’s always got a pair of mindless socks in it, for waiting in doctors’ offices and standing in post-office lines.)

What I really need is more hours in the day! (Or someone who’ll do laundry, shop for groceries, clean the house… and maybe hold down a job for me!)

I was thinking of getting a pile of the cheap, plastic, scratchy yarn you get at WalMart, etc., and making myself a bumblebee-striped hoodie.

Thank you! It was my first try at Fair Isle style knitting. The Kiddo loves his hat.

Thank you. That’s quite a compliment.

I’ve been crocheting like crazy lately. I just finished my second hat of the week and that’s the most recent in a long line of projects I’ve been working on since I picked the hooks back up again for fall. I also went to my first Stitch and Bitch last night to learn how to knit and am working on a wash cloth in a pretty cotton yarn. I’m probably going to make several more hats and scarves as gifts for Christmas this year, at least now that I got the ones I wanted for myself out of the way.

Ooh! And I made my first purse, the Fat Bottom Bag from the Happy Hooker book. I’m giving that to a friend for her birthday but it’s not parting from my hands very easily.

That just means you need to make one for yourself!

I’ve been told my gift to my cousin last Christmas, the Squatty Sidekick went over real well and she loves it. I have the stuff to make another one for me, but I never got around to it!

Finishing up my second Clapotis, and then will start on a work cardigan or shawl – haven’t decided yet, but as this is a) Buffalo and b) my office has one entire wall that is a window, my office is already cold, and I need something to bundle up with!

One of my co-workers knits as well. We have great fun comparing projects, yarn, and patterns!

Hey! Lookit who’s back!

I have a skein of recycled Sari Silk. I don’t know what to do with it. I made a purse and scarf from it for my niece, and another scarf out of a slightly different colourway (god I hate that word). I’ve got some yarn and a pattern on its way to do a pattern test for a pillow (and money! Woohoo!), that should be here today and made this weekend.

And then the socks must continue. Oh, and I want to make my MIL a cabled sweater. She knit one when she was in her late teens and accidentally washed it.

I came back when the boards when free but naturally now I’m super busy with work, school, homework and trying to find time for my boyfriend, crocheting and just chilling so I don’t have much time to post! ARG!

I was hoping to get the hang of knitting in time to make Christmas presents but I have a feeling it might be a bit too late for that so I’m probably going to stick with what I know. Crochet hats for everybody! Whee!

My stitch n’ bitch last night was insane. One of our girls has been in the Middle East as a translator for six months, and is home for a couple of weeks. There was a booze run, a pizza delivery, and a birthday present that came in a plain brown wrapper. The owner of the store left at around 9:00 but we were there until midnight (one of her employees was still with us).

Who says knittin’ is boring?

I’m doing a shrug for myself in a dark cyan wool from Cascade. This one, actually. Then I’m going to do an amigurumi dragon for my friend’s dorm room for Christmas. (There, I said it, now I have to do it!)

After that I’m pretty much open. I have four skeins of bulky yarn that I’m not sure what to do with. I bought it for a scarf for someone before I got to know them better and realized it wasn’t for them. Some of it might go towards the dragon, but I’ll still have a lot left over.

Next year I’m going to try and get more onboard with knitting. I can do about anything in crochet now, but I’m limited to knit and purl otherwise. And it seems that knitting designs are generally cooler than crochet ones, with some exceptions, so…

All knitting is, is knit and purl. If you’ve got that down, you can do ANYTHING.

I just finished this vest for my sister. I translated a Kaffe Fasset knitting pattern into crochet because I don’t know how to knit. Now I’m starting a heavy sweater in this pattern. It will be a gift if by some chance I can finish it by the holidays and if not I might keep it.

Wow, that’s some fancy colourwork!

I’m about to finish the last toe on my 15th pair of socks since March. Last Christmas I gave my college aged niece one pair and some money and she said, “All I wanted was socks and money!” I gave her another 5-6 pair for her birthday in March. Now, there are 12 more pairs for her and 3 pairs for her mother (the inspiration for my learning to knit socks).

All I’ve ever done is socks & hats. I’d like to try a sweater but I’m terrified of spending so much money for yarn for one item and then either giving up on it in frustration or having it not fit. Maybe after Christmas if I can find a decent, easyish, plus size pattern. Suggestions welcome.
