I like to work complicated patterns with lots of colors but I rarely want to wear anything that loud and colorful. Mostly I make kids clothes that way because they look cute in lots of bright colors.
I have a hard time following patterns. I always make some sort of mistake following them and then it’s harder to figure out how to fix it than if I designed the pattern myself. A lot of the time I start with measurements from a sweater with the style that I want and match the pieces. The hardest thing about sweaters for me is setting the sleeves in evenly. My first ones had so much material under the armpit that I could barely put my arms down.
I’m impressed with people making socks and gloves. Every time I try they either end up way too big or stitched so tightly that they’re too stiff to wear comfortably.
Heee heeee… knit and purl, yes. But counting, that is another thing entirely.
Some days I can’t seem to count to 5.
So, to ease my perimenopausal brain, I have set aside the lace and have been working on a simpl garter stitch capelet out of handspun wool with coloured bits of recycled silk running through it. I have some terra cotta buttons made in Africa that will be used to make this little garment very special. I am making it for my mother.
Oh, and kaylasdad99 (hope I remembered your name correctly!) the video was priceless! Thanks!!
My relatively young mind can’t count, either. I end up going back and tinking quite a bit when I’m knitting lace.
This Cosmic Creepers roving is putting it to me. I’ve nearly filled a bobbin and I have only done about three ounces of it. This is going to be one giant shawl.
I have a birthday beret for a friends daughter that I’ve been putzing on. But after I am finished with it, I am working my first sweater for me. The Mangyle.
Then I think I will concentrate on mittens and hats for charity for the winter.
If there is a Joann’s in your area, Pound Of Love yarn is on sale for $5.00 until either this Sunday or the next. It is a great deal, not overly scratchy and lots of colors.
I’m currently trying to finish a scarf I’m crocheting out of sock yarn. Then I can work on the crochet thread scarf, the bamboo scarf and the scarf I’m making with Spa yarn (which is really soft, but splits really easily). Then I can delve into my stash and whip up another 5 or 6 scarves for my coworkers.
Then there’s the baby blanket for Niece #1 who is due in February…
