What's you favorite beer?

Corona.

The only beer i drink is root beer. IBC Root Beer is my favorite.

Dos Equis and Killian’s. They’re dark enough to not taste like water, yet light enough not to taste like sand.

Mmm Beer, Boddingtons & Worthingtons (cream flow), Banks’ (but only in the right pubs)

Lots’ of real ales, Evesham ale for example.

Shiner Bock

“What’s your favorite …?” threads belong in In My Humble Opinion. I’ll move this for you.

Jodi, I’m right there with you on Widmer’s Hefeweizen. Oh for my college days, when this was a staple of my diet! Sadly, nobody seems to distribute it here in the South; last time I had it was about three years ago, when burundi and I travelled out to the Pacific Northwest.

If Widmer’s is out of the picture, I have other loves.
-A local brewpub once made the best fucking nut brown ale I’ve ever tried. It brought tears to my eyes, it was so good – all toasty and rich and nutty and fresh-tasting.
-Same brewpub made a Gold Ale that burundi and I served at our wedding. Damn good stuff, and with sentimental value; hopefully they’ll make it again soon.
-The local pizzeria/brewpub/cheapo theater combo makes a fine IPA, all flowery and perfumy, that goes great with a Greek pizza.

If brewpubs are out, then I’ve got a couple fallbacks:
-Anyone living in the South and snotty about their beer should by now know about Sweetwater Brewing Company, a maker of fantastic beers. I especially like their IPA and EPA; the only thing I’ve had by them that wasn’t so good was their blueberry beer, which, c’mon, is blueberry beer – I would’ve been profoundly disturbed if it HAD been good.

ARGH!

Huh – I’m having fun reading the reviews of beers at www.beeradvocate.com. If I ever think my crowd of gamers are too geeky and self-absorbed in our trivial hobby, I can go back to this website :).

(Incidentally, those bastards hate Widmer’s Hefeweizen for the exact reason I love it: it doesn’t taste like deliquesced moldy dinner rolls, the way most Hefeweizens do. The fools!)

Wow. All my German relatives drink either Old Milwaukee or Piels real draft (from a can no less) whenever they’re staeside for a visit.
A quick tally of the thumbs up/down on Weißbier:
7 - Good (or made the list)
1 - “Wretched”

I’ll make it 8 “thumbs up” and nominate Spaten’s Franziskaner Weißbier (either Kristallklar oder HefeWeiß - depending on my mood. I’ll concede that Weißbier as a very polarizing nature - People either love it or they depise it. For me nothing beats the smoothness, the flavor, the ticklish foamy head and the little sting it leaves right in the back of your throat.

As an aside, something I’ve recommended before to non-beer drinkers to quench therithirst on a super hot summer day:
A Shandygaff - named after the pub it was invented in 1700’s England. Made in a large glass 2/3 lager beer & 1/3 ginger ale. I can’t even the last time I had one - but they do quench a thirst

Not cheap/imported/hard to find:

Staropramen
Pilsner Urquell
Ruddles County

Cheap:

Lone Star
Shiner Bock
Coors

Currently:

MacTarnahan’s Amber Ale
Widmer Hefeweizen (no lemon, thanks)
Black Watch Cream Porter (MacTarnahan’s)
Mirror Pond Pale (Deschutes Brewery)
Batchelor ESB (Deschutes)

If you think that American beers suck, come try some Pacific Northwest Microbrews. Might possibly change your mind.

Anyone ever have OLDE FROTHINGSLOSH?
A novelty brew which was actually Iron City Beer in wolve’s clothing

You have to love their slogans:
The Pale Stale Ale for the pale stale male with a taste so light, the foam is on the bottom
and
Hippety hops make it tops! Guaranteed to fit any shape glass

Miss Frothingslosh, a 300# bathing beauty who used the stage name Fatima Yechburg graced their cans until her death at the age of 54.

Natural Light and Budweiser

but give seconds to miller high life and coors light.
       BUT, NATTY IS THE BEST!!!!!!

Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale

Yum.

Such a simple question, so hard to answer.
I’ll go along with the apparent consensus that Pilsner Urquell reigns as the best lager & Guiness the top stout. But this is a good moment to mention the fact that it matters a great deal where & in what form the beer is served. For example, I’m sure that Guiness served in the US, even tapwise, can’t compare with the real stuff. And bottled Guiness is awful. I’m also sure that imported Carlsberg is 2nd rate & I suspect so is imported Stella Artois (though it’s not bad considering).
Underrated beers? I think of Mexico. The previously cited Indio is great & even better is Victoria. I don’t believe either is imported to the US, while the inferior brands Dos Equis, Tecate, etc. are. Also Modelo Especial really works for me; I prefer it to its sister Negra. Sapporo is my favorite Japanese, being silky & refreshing.
The Brit ales should not be slept on. I love Samuel Smith Nut Brown or Oatmeal Stout, Whitbread, & Fuller’s ESB. I often wonder why the Brits I know in NYC so lackadaisically avoid their home brands in lieu of junk like Budweiser. By the way, could a Brit or Irishman please settle this question of how to make a real Black & Tan (i.e. with Harp or Bass)?
The Belgians rate as well. Delicious Orval isn’t appreciated nearly enough, and the Chimays are incredible if you have the courage for them.
And I can’t conclude without giving props to a couple of my local brews, Brooklyn Pilsner, which allegedly tastes the way American beer did a century ago & the mysteriously enchanting Brooklyn Weisse. Look for them.
Many of the brands mentioned in this thread as favorites strike me more as examples of the worst beers on the market. E.g. Miller Lite, Red Stripe. Piels is truly atrocious & I dare anyone to finish a can.

Well being from Oregon going into the beer section is suppose to be heaven. :frowning:

We have outrageous amounts of home brewed beers.

I will take a Black Butte Porter though over most.
Guinness Is like licking an ashtray to me… No offense

Guiness…
McEwan’s…
Skullsplitter…

some microbrew stuff, like

Rogue Brutal Black Bitter, and Rogue Dead Guy,

Magic Hat #9, Magic Hat Chaotic Chemistry, (Magic Hat’s Ale of the Living Dead was interesting… but I ain’t normally big on “spiced” beers… I think it was the name…)
