How did Ouzo get so high up the list?
Ahem. Beer. But it’s always nice to end the night with a whisky. Or two.

wine with meals, sometimes
the occasional scotch, I don’t have a favorite scotch since I’m not very experienced with it, but I do know which ones I don’t like at all
a beer now and then, but I’m picky and don’t really care for most beers. I don’t get the IPA thing, and beer is far down on the list of choices
I don’t really drink much and don’t understand liking it enough to have more than general preferences.
I’m a cocktail kinda gal (not too sweet ones), and I love good wines. I like a beer in the summer or at the ballpark.
Even though I’m nearly all Scottish on my dad’s side, I’ve been told I’m a waste of good Scotch, so I don’t do whisky.
Beer or liquor… why can’t I have both?
Seriously, beer with food. Liquor to sedate you.
What’s your problem with ouzo, malakas?
Rum. But only at home because most bars only stock Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Myers, Kraken or Malibu (fun fact—because it’s less than 80 proof Malibu is technically not rum). There’s some great American craft rums out there and I’ve recently gotten into rum from Barbados—specifically anything from Foursquare. I also have a few bottles from Jamaica in the rum locker. Yes, I am a rum snob.
At last count I have 18 different bottles of rum. When bad weather hits most people run out for bread and milk—I run out for more rum.
Beer. My favorites are Dos Equis green bottle and Pacifico. I have to store my recycling and haul it to the recycling place so I don’t normally get anything in bottles. Cans are just so much easier to deal with because I can crush them and store more. Pacifico comes in cans but my liquor store only carries it sporadically. Normally I go with Yuengling.
About once a year I buy a bottle of bourbon. “Regular” Knob Creek.
What are some of your favorites? I like a lot of what Plantation puts out, as well as of the Haitian runs from Barbancourt. Wray and Nephew makes a nice ovenproof rum. Smith and Cross makes a tasty, very brown sugary, but dry, pot still rum.
Wine 90%
Beer 5% mainly stout
Gin 4%
other spirits 1%
No sugar shit for me!
You can’t go wrong with Wray and Nephew. I also like Hampden Estate Rum Fire. I haven’t been able to get into Plantation although it gets good reviews. Plantation is a bit deceptive when it comes to their product. They add sugar during bottling but won’t admit it. I’m all about transparency so until they admit what they do I’m going to stay away.
For American rums I suggest Montanya from Colorado and Privateer from Massachusetts if you can find them. General consensus is that Privateer is the best tasting rum made in the U.S.
My go to is The Real McCoy. Made by Foursquare in Barbados it’s a blend of column and pot still rum, aged in oak bourbon barrels. I recently picked up a bottle of The Real McCoy 10, a blend of bourbon oak aged and virgin oak aged. That one’s definitely a sipper.
Beer me!!!
I love beer even though I hat Cavanaugh for co-opting that. OK, I really don’t like mass market American and pretty much any country mass market beer. I’m a heretic and pretty much can’t stand IPA’s, so 90% of what is stocked in the US is nasty to me. To be more clear, the hops that are used in most American IPA’s taste “catty” or “skunky” to me. It’s not a good taste.
My definition of hell is being stuck on a trans-pacific flight and the only beer they have is Bud (I think it is the yeast, but while I can drink a lot of cheap beers, Bud doesn’t work for me).
I brew my own beer. Usually around 3-4% alcohol level. I like quantity without getting ploughed.
Do like single malt scotch but prefer beer. Strangely enough, most scotch blends have a “dusty” taste for me. I don’t like 'em, but I rarely meet a 12 year or older single malt I don’t like. YMMV
I always start with whiskey, and then proceed to pints of beer. This system works best for me.
I also forgot to add an important topic: Gendered Alcoholic Drinks
Men: Beer, Whiskey, etc.
Women: Wine Coolers, Fruity Cocktails, etc.
Furthermore, when a man orders a fruity cocktail instead of a beer, then he’ll be judged for it. Yet, if a woman orders an Old Fashioned, nobody cares. We should be able to drink whatever we like without being judged, no matter what.
Who Is judging and why do you give a wet slap for their opinion?
On sheer volume it is probably bourbon. But since Spring arrived, the wife and I have been celebrating with Hurricanes and Zombies served in our collection of tiki glasses.
In order of preference:
I’ll do rum but it’s not really my thing. Not into gin or vodka. Will accept wine - sparkling, white or rose, but don’t especially like red. I do like a cold beer in the summer but lager only, can’t stand ales or stouts or anything that actually strongly tastes of beer - Bud or Miller is my preferred (yes, I take a lot of shit for that but I like my beer-flavored water just fine thankyou very much) or acceptable alternatives with a lighter, crisper taste such as Peroni or Tsingtao.
Tried Foursquare’s Probitas recently. Excellent white rum. Pleasantly smooth, nice brown sugar hints, not too hot. Lovely for ~25 ish a 750. Thanks for the recommendation. If I can get my relatives in MA to find me some, I’ll try Privateer.
If I’m out, or at home feeling fancy, it will be a straight up martini. If I’m home feeling casual, it’s just gin, neat. I keep it in the freezer so I don’t have to shake it or dilute it with ice.
In order of preference:
bourbon
bourbon
bourbon
fruity rum-based drinks (pina colada, fuzzy navel, daiquiri, etc)
bourbon
bourbon
white wine
margaritia
bourbon
I don’t drink beer at all. If it’s a “beer-only” function, I’ll just have a diet coke. Same with red wine. Nasty stuff.
I like bourbon.
Beer.
Wanted to share a beer I found today, and this is the most recent thread on-topic that I found.
Wife and I have been taking a break from tha booze to slim down but gave ourselves a break for the weekend. I was at Sprouts getting some stuff to grill and salad, and happened across Lagunitas Daytime, which is an IPA with 98 calories.
Yes, it’s very light for an IPA, but if you want a good beer for sitting at the grill and find Michelob Ultra repulsive, it’s a great choice.
