What do you drink, what does it say about you?

I am referring to drinks containing alcohol.

Personally, I’m a beer man. My fall back is Dos Equis then Corona, my preference is interesting microbrews. Mmmmm… there’s this one local place with a great ginger & wheat beer.

What does this say about me? That I’m timid and don’t know much about drinks that involve more than one step from the bartender. I’m interested in branching out, hence this thread. I’m also terribly image conscious and need all the help I can get in the social situations I tend to drink at so let me know what image I’m projecting if I give your favorite drink a try.

In my opinion, of all the alcohic drinks, I like many, but only three have achieved true greatness: Beer, good red wine, and single malt whisky. And possibly the martini.

I’m mainly a beer drinker. Stella Artois, Heineken, and Peroni ae my favourites.

Alcohic? Me an alco? hic*

Microbrews. Guinness. Redhook ESB. The occasional shot of tequila, Jagermeister, or schnapps.

What does this say about me? I suppose it says that I like full-flavored beers, and have simple tastes when it comes to drinking. The shots say that I act less than responsible upon occasion . Don’t tell my mom.

I like to experiment, but currently my drink of choice is rum with just about any type of fruit juice.

Pure coincidence, but I recently used a beer type preference question in building a mountain bike type selector.

http://www.selectsmart.com/FREE/select.php3?client=mtb

If you chose Lager you get pointed towards certain types of bikes and if you chose Ale you get pointed towards others. Most people who’ve used it have reported pretty accurate results (granted, it’s one out of 12 questions).

So yes, you are what you drink.

Extra Special Bitter tonight if you’re wondering.

I’ve never developed a taste for beer of any kind. No, I’m a hard drinkin’ woman.

Tequila. White tequila, preferrably Alcatraz Silver. It makes some people angry, but me it just makes, well, free, so I have to watch it when I’m doing shots. Or rather, have someone keeping an eye on me.

I’m also partial to a good white wine and several mixed drinks-mostly tequila based, though I’ve discovered Red Rum recently. Smooooth…

I drink single malt scotch either on the rocks or neat when smoking my cigars, red wine with my dinner, and beer at picnics.

Unless I am on mushrooms, they never say a word about me. There was this one time when my beer was yelling at me real loud, so I drank it. I guess I showed it, huh?

I drink Otokoyama sake. It is dry as a bone.
When I can’t find decent sake, I drink Jamesons Irish Whiskey. Preferably on the rocks, preferably rocks made from Evian water. I like Jamesons blend better than their single malt, or ANY single malt for that matter.

I knew a woman who liked peppermint schnapps and Tang. What does that say about HER?!?

I don’t drink very often (I’m usually driving people, or myself), but when I do it’s usually Jamieson’s Irish Whiskey or Jack Daniels. If I mix it at all, it’s a very strong mix (paint thinner-strong).

So, what does that say about me? Well, that I’ve got a very high tolerance for alcohol (another reason why I don’t drink too often; it’s expensive). Also, it says that if I am drinking, I’m drinking with a purpose: to get drunk fast. If I don’t, it doesn’t have much effect on me.
When I drink, it’s usually in a social-setting made up of friends, so I don’t have to worry about projecting an image. Though, I am still the same goofy, friendly guy I am when I’m sober, except I fall down more and slur my words.

Let’s see here…my favorite drink. That narrows it down to about three.

First choice (as a rule) is Canadian Club with 7-Up. I could always bend the rules with Canadian Mist, but I prefer CC. Guess that says I am a middle-of-the-road kind of drinker, since I do like Crown, but don’t ever drink it unless somebody else is buying.

This could also infer I am a moderate cheap-ass.

Second choice is a Jose Cuervo Gold margarita with a kicker. I absolutely adore margaritas, and the JC Gold simply smooths it out. Unfortunately, once I start drinking them, it’s difficult for me to stop unless I am falling into my salsa on the table. I also tend to want to party like it’s gonna be 2099 on “ta-kill-ya”, and invariably somebody has to remind me it’s Monday night and pour me into their car to whisk me home.

I suppose this could mean I have little or no sense to even imbibe this particular drink. Which is quite true.

Third fave is a wonderful Merlot or Chianti in the fall/winter, and a delicious, crisp Chardonnay or Chablis in warmer weather. (They have to be red in cold weather and white in warm weather or I puke.) I get on wine sprees about two or three times a year (sometimes for MONTHS of those years) and prowl the wine aisles to find new things to turn my mouth purple that night. And of course, dry as baked cheesetoast, the following morning.

This probably means I’m a wino.

As far as beer goes, I don’t care for it unless I’m bored with everything else, but do enjoy a good Rolling Rock now and again. Beer normally gives me massive headaches, even if I only have half a bottle.

I’m into my CC and 7 mode now, so I’ll continue to sip and read the rest of the posts to see everyone else’s preferences.

Providing I don’t run out for any tequila…

9 times out of 10, it’s beer. If it’s not beer, it’s because someone has made me a drink and handed it to me. (It’s not that I don’t care for other stuff, it’s just because … well, I’m lazy, I guess. And cheap. And I lke beer. =)

My default beer is usually Alexander Keith’s, but I’m a big Sam Adams’ fan, and I’ve recently rediscovered Michelob. Lager, pale ale … I’m not terribly picky.

What does that say about me? I’m set in my ways, I guess… but I’m open to experimentation with a little guidance.

If you’re in a biker bar, drink biker beer.

If you’re in the King Cole Room at the St. Regis in midtown Manhattan, order an extra dry Tanqueray martini straight up with ONE olive only.

If you’re in the Polo Lounge of the Beverly Hills Hotel, ask for a gimlet (gin and lime juice), and think about Raymond Chandler.

If you’re on Duval Street in Key West, have a dark rum with fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice.

If you’re at the Cafe Deux Magots on the Place St. Germaine, order a glass of St. Emilion.

If you’re on the Via Veneto (snort), drink a cool dry white vermouth with a slice of lemon.

Beer…I’ll have a Negro Modelo or Indio every now and then with a real spicey meal.

For a cocktail… Vodka(Absolute or Stolichnaya)and Tonic,in fact i think I’ll head to the kitchen for one soon as I post.

Good wine with dinner…a nice zinfandel or pinot noir for red and sauvignon blanc or chardonnay for white.

And when the occasion calls for something a little stronger…Don Julio Reposado,a nice, smooth sipping tequila.

depends on the time of day and the meal situation.

after work in the pub: Kilkenny, Bass or Labatts.

apperitif: Bristol Cream Sherry

with meals: wine, usually red

later in the evenings: single malt - currently working on a bottle of Tallisker, but also like Laphraoig.

dunno what it all means.

Shiva, I’m impressed! My number one selection was an aluminum hard tail. Which is exactly what I ride.

As to the OP, I’m usually a beer guy leaning towards Pale Ales. Though I do get in a Stout mood from time to time. And I drink a fair amount of Labatt Blue, because the beers I prefer are, well, more expensive.

When in the the mood for spirits, I tend to drink Maker’s Mark and soda (or sometimes in a Manhattan), Cutty on the rocks, or Cuervo Sunrise sometimes on a hot summer night.

What that says about me, other than the fact that I spend a large percentage of my discretionary income on drinking, I leave to the experts.

Beer: it’s what’s in your hand at all possible times.

It all depends on the setting.

Beer with the guys: Bass Ale
Cocktails with co-workers: Cosmopolitans or Windex
Cocktails with Corporate Partners: Jack & Coke
After a nice dinner at a trattoria: Grappa
Japanese Restaurant: Sake and a large bottle of Kirin
Chinese Restaurant: Tsing-Tao
Korean Restaurant: Don’t bother. Korean beers suck, and I’m Korean!
Vodka: Belvedere
Tequila: Patron
Mineral Water: Pellegrino
Also try Moosehead on tap if you get a chance. I consider it a second tier beer, but it is surprisingly good

I guess this says that I am pretty snooty. But come on, could you really be friends with someone who drank Pabst Blue Ribbon?

I like Bud Light or Busch Light. That says that I grew up in St. Louis watching Cards baseball, I guess.

I have had various mixed drinks that I developed a taste for. Rattlesnakes, Margaritas, and Sex on the Beach. I don’t know what that says about me.

American Beer: Full Sail Amber Ale or IPA. Simply the best domestic microbrew ever.

European Beer: Fuller’s ESB, or Guinness, depending on mood and palate.

Clear Liquor: White Lightning. 180 proof grain alcohol. Drizzle a few tablespoons over some ice and sip the meltings. Vodka will do if this is unavailable. Good vodkas are just alcohol and water anyway. (Source: Callahan’s Place)

Dark Liquor: Single Malt Scotch. Glenfiddich is good and smooth, but a bit sweet. Good scotch makes American whiskeys taste like bongwater.

Wine: Gives me heartburn - too acidic. But I like Merlot if I’m forced to choose.
