- Anything ‘non-standard’ habits? (like brushing your teeth or preparing food, a la Kramer
) Pee like a mad bastard all over the place whilst singing “I’m A Little Teapot”. Use two hands during “this is my spout” verse.
And what the heck is this sinus rinse that everyone’s talking about?
- Shower or bath? --Shower (I only have a shower stall but I don’t miss the bath)

Sorry, I skipped right to the poll without reading everything…As my poll says, I pee when I get in the shower. Saves effort, saves water. It’s all pipes. I do it first and then warm soapy water washes everything away a few times throughout the shower. I’m a girl BTW.
- Shower
- Morning (occasionally evening)
- 5-10 minutes
- not too hot - it dries my skin
- Shampoo, wash face, wash rest of body from neck down
- body wash and nylon scrubby
- Lather, rinse
- I may shave my pits or legs if they’re particularly furry. If I happen to have sinus issues, I’ll make the water as hot as I can stand it and just let it beat on my face for a few minutes.
- Shower or bath? Usually showers; occasional bath if I’m sore and tired.
- Morning or evening? Almost always evening.
- Length? Shower–just a few minutes. Bath: about half an hour.
- Temperature? Pretty warm.
- “Order of events”? From the top down when in the shower.
- Bar soap or gel + loofah? Anything I can grab.
- Lather, rinse? Or lather, rinse, repeat? Lather with both shampoo and conditioner, then rinse.
- Anything ‘non-standard’ habits? Some shaving if needed.
Ahhh!!! We have to have a bathing style now??! Who’s judging this? What happens if our bathing style is found wanting? Do we have to be retrained?
:: panics, tears hair out (what’s left of it) ::
Well…
Shower unless I have time for a bath; morning; 10-15 minutes; hot but not painful;shampoo and rinse, then face, torso, arms, legs, neck, other areas; Ivory bar soap; lather and rinse; no non-standard or group habits.
Re: peeing in the shower:
Many plumbing systems separate “greywater” (as from showers and sinks) from “blackwater” containing human waste (as from toilets). The handling of blackwater is a lot more controlled than that of greywater; you can use greywater in planters and on lawns in a way that would not be permitted with blackwater.
Some houses use composting toilets and do not have a blackwater septic system at all.
In houses separating these waters, it is not a good idea to pee in the shower.
- Shower or bath?
Shower. Baths are special occasions. - Morning or evening?
Morning. - Length?
As long as it takes me–between 10 and 15 minutes I think. - Temperature?
Hot enough that I’m comfortable, but not too hot. Orders from my dermatologist, due to capillaritis. - “Order of events”?
Shave underarms, wash body, wash face, shave legs, shampoo, condition. - Bar soap or gel + loofah?
Bar soap from Liberty’s. - Lather, rinse? Or lather, rinse, repeat?
Lather, rinse, condition. Clarifying shampoo on Fridays. - Anything ‘non-standard’ habits? (like brushing your teeth or preparing food, a la Kramer )
Don’t think so.
Nasal Irrigation. Squirting water up your nose… on purpose. My cat (and husband for that matter) think it’s just about the grossest thing ever, but it’s the only way I can survive Spring.
- Shower
- Morning
- 15-20 minutes
- Hot
- Wash hair, wash face, put conditioner in hair, wash pits (shave if necessary) upper arms and nethers with bar soap, use body shampoo for the rest, rinse hair, turn off water, rinse toes off in the trickle that comes out of the faucet and then I get out.
- Bar soap and gel. Never, ever loofah.
- Usually just lather rinse. On occasion, lather rinse, repeat.
- I wash my upper arms thoroughly with soap to stave off the redness and bumps I’ve had on my upper arms since puberty. It helps.
- Shower
- Morning
- 10 mins or so
- Hot hot hot!
- Shave, shampoo, conditioner, brush teeth, soap up, rinse
- Bar soap
- Lather, rinse
- Brush my teeth (see #5)
1) Shower or bath?
Shower. I don’t usually like baths. Onsen visits are special occasions.
2) Morning or evening?
Morning, plus a quick rinse or scrub-down in the evening after most workouts.
3) Length?
About 15 minutes.
4) Temperature?
40–42ºC (I know because it’s an on-demand water heater with the water temp displayed).
5) “Order of events”?
Generally, top-down. Hair, face, chest and shoulders, arms and back, butt and crotch, legs and feet. If I use conditioner I go to the bottom half first and hit the upper half after I rinse my hair.
6) Bar soap or gel + loofah?
I usually stagger usages. Neutrogena body gel with a sisal towel (great for scrubbing your own back) for a couple of days, one day with a nice bar soap. I’ve been getting stuff from Lush or using this glycerin-based soap my wife bought for the bar soap days.
7) Lather, rinse? Or lather, rinse, repeat?
Lather, rinse. If I do work around the house on the weekend, like some woodworking projects I’ve been doing lately, then I’ll skip the morning shower and just take one later on when I’m done getting dirty. Ditto if I’m working out in the morning (usually only on weekends or holidays); no use taking one before then since I’ll just get nasty about an hour after I take it. In that case, a repeat might be in order. Depends on how my skin and hair feel after the first one.
8) Anything ‘non-standard’ habits? (like brushing your teeth or preparing food, a la Kramer).
I occasionally pee in the shower, if I’m alone. I don’t do it when I shower with my wife; she’d think it’s gross. I broke my nose a few years ago, it wasn’t set properly, and one side is prone to blockages, probably from having narrower passages on that side. I recently heard about neti pots (thanks Qadgop, for the reference in the cold-from-hell thread) and tried that. I liked it, so I do that a couple of times a week, or when it seems like my nose is getting crusty boogers again.
Hmm. Similar to mine, classic, efficient. I’d give you a 9.1 for bathing style.
On to the swimsuit competition!
This is what I use for a sinus rinse. I’m really prone to sinus headaches, non-allergic histamine reactions, and other such not-fun things that require me to rinse my sinuses every now and then. It is also great when you’re sick and all stuffed up, as you can just wash it all out of your head in one go and feel clear and relieved for a little while. Plus, if you like the yucky appeal of zit popping, watching wads of “sick” mucus flow down the drain is about as entertaining.

- Go with the spirit of the moment
