What's "your drink"?

If it is raining in New Orleans, I am making getting out of town.

I am sure they will be sending buses for us anytime…

Varies by occasion. I have a ridiculously comprehensive alcohol list for a guy who keeps himself to two drinks a week.

When I’m alone, or with a lone good friend: Cognac, neat, steamed glass.
When I’m drinking: Scotch, two or three icecubes. Lowlands preferred, but I’m not (very) picky.
At a lounge or party: Amaretto, neat. People look at me funny sometimes, and I admit to having a pretty thorough knowledge of crappy amaretto now. A good one is quite nice, though.
If it’s too hot to think: Mint julep.
Beer-type meals: Mead if I can get it. Don’t much like beer; mostly I keep Tsingtao or Guinness for cooking, and I’ll drink 'em too. Might try microbrews eventually.
Red-type meals: Bordeaux and Syrah. Mostly Bordeaux.
White-type meals: Reisling. Haven’t tried many more. Any recommendations?
Dessert: Eisswein, though I really do adore this Sauternes my friend gave me. If I could afford it I would probably switch.

Mmmm. Now that sounds tasty – I love Southern Comfort. We don’t have Wink around here, but Squirt (which I can find sometimes) or grapefruit soda would work. I’m having one of these tonight!

Bingo. I love me a manhattan, but I don’t like ordering them out at most places anymore. I like mine to be at least 1 to 1 mix ratio between the whiskey (Canadian Club please) and the vermouth (Martini and Rossi). The manhattans that I tend to get when I go out are more 15 parts whiskey to 1 part vermouth.

This I blame on the silly “martini craze”, where most martini’s are made with just a whiff of dry vermouth. This is fine, but sweet vermouth is not the poisonous, rotten garbage that is dry vermouth. Maybe I should order a double shot of Canadian and a double shot of sweet vermouth and mix my own damned drinks…

I love a good tequila sunrise.

Poinsettas are yummy . (Cranberry juice & champagne)

Lime Marguritas , either blended or on the rocks.

Beer. Right now my favorite is Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, but Corona Extra is right up there , and so is Amberbock.

Two fingers of Macallan Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky or a bottle of grape Neehi, depending on my mood.

That’s my wife’s drink–also known as an amaretto stone sour. Pretty common in our area, but when she tried to order it on vacation a few years ago she got a lot of blank looks from bartenders.

I’m a Bacardi and coke guy myself. Sometimes I’ll branch out to Jack and coke, and depending on where I’m at I’ll have a manhattan–my dad’s drink. But it’s so hard to find a good manhattan in a bar these days.

The family drink, (my folks drank it, I learned from them, my brother drinks it, and I got Deb hooked on it), is the Manhattan: 2:1 Bourbon:Sweet Vermouth, dash of bitters, cherry and some cherry juice.

However, my personal drink is the Rusty Nail: 3:1 Scotch: Drambuie

I like 'em both on the rocks.

I like a lot of beers and wines. No favorite wine; it depends on my mood. I am more than partial to stouts and porters and ales. When I can afford it, I look up a six pack of McEwan’s Ale (I’d love to find it on tap, but can’t afford the flight just for a beer), but I’ll drink any of the Belgian abbey beers without anything resembling coercion. (I really enjoyed Guinness in Ireland, but the stuff that gets shipped across the pond–which I will drink, but not seek out–is not the same.)

Pina Colada. Pineapple, lil’ umbrellas, and all, please.

Or a pitcher of Sangria.

Scotch, preferably single-malt, neat. Generally Glenlivet.
Johnnie Walker Black if there’s no single malt available.

One of the best things about drinking straight whisky is that it’s practically impossible for the bartender to screw up your drink.

First thing I thought was “this poster must be from Wisconsin”, and you were nice enough to put your real location in your profile :).

and since I posted, I suppose it would be rude not to add my (boring) favorite, which is Guinness… which is all I can think about right now; when I finally get off of work, I can go home and ‘toast the new year’ (I’m in Wisconsin too, and although my location says the opposite, I am at work ATM :()

I don’t drink often enough to have a “my drink” (I’m not very good at it). But the tastiest drink I remember was a hybrid White Russian made in a blender with Black Walnut ice cream substituted for cream. I actually enjoyed my ex’s family that weekend.

If I’m at “home,” particularly the midwest, it’s a Canadian Club Manhattan on the rocks (a Brown Mumbler to you WLS listeners).

If I’m in the Caribbean (or want to feel like I am), it’s a Painkiller:

4 parts pineapple juice
1 part orange juice
1 part cream of coconut
2-4 parts rum to taste (preferably Pusser’s, but any good amber rum will do in a pinch)

Serve over ice, with grated nutmeg on top. Kill the pain.

2 ounces of Bookers trickled into a Riedel Crystal Bourbon Glass.

If smoking a cigar: 2 ounces of Hennessy X.O.
I may mist a little of it onto the wrapper of my Fuente a day or two before, or if I’m in a rare mood, just dunk the butt of the cigar into the glass every now and gain.
