What's "your drink"?

Vodka and tonic, with a twist of lime.

Most often it’s a Sierra Nevada Pale. Otherwise, a good bourbon or single-malt, neat. If you bring ice anywhere near it, I will throttle you. A very nice dinner in San Antonio with my now-wife then-lust object was nearly spoiled by an idiotic bartender who brought my dessert Macallans on the rocks. Barbarian.

  1. Bailey’s on the Rocks
  2. Amaretto Sours

Yummy.

Beer for me. Generally Guinness unless there’s a microbrew available. My favorite beer is Dogfish Head Raison d’Etre, but you’re lucky to find that at bars.

If I must drink a mixed drink, I’ll generally get a manhattan.

White Russian. I just saw The Big Lebowski for the first time. I have loved White Russians since the 80s, no relation to the movie.

Dude, Dogfish Head! They make some very good beer (though I’m not particularly fond of the Raison d’Etre, myself), and I was just wearing my Dogfish Head hat on Friday.

Me, too! On Monday! I just put the disc back in the mail to Netflix today!

I don’t really drink at all anymore, but my favorites used to be:

  1. Brick Brewery’s Waterloo Dark. Best beer evah.

  2. Southern Comfort and Wink.

Depends on who’s buying:

If it’s someone else, a Glenfiddich neat with a glass of water on the side. And keep’em coming…

If I’m buying, 7 and 7 or Highball (but the Highball MUST be made with Vernor’s ginger ale or else it just tastes like a 7 and 7).

Okay, what’s in a 7&7? I’ve never heard of them. Depending on how hot it is, I’ll have either a Ginger Beer & Manuka Honey Vodka, or if it’s later in the day, a Montieths Summer, or whatever the on-site Pilsner is.

Seagram’s 7 (a blended American whiskey) and 7-up.

Usually, I’ll just order a beer or a glass of red wine, but if we’re talking “drink” drink, then it’s a White Russian.

Don’t you have trouble ordering highballs? I’ve seen it used to describe just about any whiskey + mixer drink, including water (ack).

One thing to know about highballs: No matter how much you like Tom Waits, you should never put one in the crankcase. I am not a mechanic, but you can take my word on this.

Depending on my mood, either a jynnantonix or an old fashioned.

October-April: Jack rocks, twist.

April-October: Tanq or Absolut tonic.

One of two things, depending on what I’m feeling like that day:

– Beer.

– Bombay Sapphire martini, on the rocks, with olives.

Vodka martini, no ice, heavy on the vodka. Coupla olives. Cheap vodka is fine.

After that, maybe cheapo champagne.

Home, regular – beer
Home, feelin’ special – vodka tonic/lime
Home, summer – margartia
Out – dirty martini/3 olives
Out, summer – mojito
Out, with dinner – wine
Out a.m. – bloody mary/spicy

I used to feel the same way, until I tried really good beers.

One for me also. Nothing wrong with simplicity.

If I don’t know the bartender: A Sapphire & tonic (it’s hard to ruin one of those).

If I really am in New Orleans: A sazerac.

If the weather’s hot: A French 75. Alternatively, a kamikaze with top-shelf vodka and Cointreau.

Pre-dinner: A sidecar with Metaxa & Cointreau.

Post-dinner: A shot of Chartreuse.

If I’m at home: A sort of mutant Manhattan I make with Cruzan single-barrel rum, dry vermouth, and Stock maraschino.

Depends on my mood, could be:
Margarita, frozen
Strawberry Daquiri
Screwdriver
Smirnoff Ice
Beer
Vodka with Cherry Coke

Yes, I’m weird.
