What's Your Fandom?

Shoujo anime otaku!

My daughter is a Jhonen geek, too. She comes by her fangirl tendencies honestly - her mother (moi) is a geeky fangirl-type.

For me it was/is:
The Rocky Horror Picure Show
SF conventions
Star Trek (TNG)
Forever Knight
Renaissance Faires
Jethro Tull
David Bowie
Elfquest
Kevin Smith
Eddie Izzard

My first date with DeHusband was a Star Trek Convention. Years later, we stayed at the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center when we attended “One Weekend On Earth” 30th anniversary ST Convention.

When geeks marry…

Battlestar Galactica
Stargate sg1
Tron

For TV it’s MST3K for me. La La La!

For authors, Terry Pratchett tops my list.

For other, Medieval history.

Aerosmith, No Doubt, Star Wars, 24, Seinfeld.

I like anime (and am a total sucker for magical girl shows), Star Trek, and just about any book with science-fiction or fantasy elements in it. I like Anne McCaffrey a lot, to the point where I almost have to smack myself across the face to prevent myself from buying yet another book when I’m already flat broke. I’ve read every book of hers that I can get my grubby little hands on (which, unfortunately, leaves a lot to be desired, especially with her older books).

My current passion is slowly becoming Coleridge, Wordsworth and…erm…[sub]Coleridge/Wordsworth…yes that’s a slash…no, I don’t have to explain mysef…not that I probably could…[/sub]

Futurama is my all time biggest fandom. I am the self-proclaimed biggest fan. I know all!

“Behold, bouv, watcher of the DVD’s, knower of the episodes! Tremble at my encyclopedic knowledge of Futurama!”

I’m also a huge fan of Simpsons, though I know very little about seasons 13-current. But ask me something about the Golden Age and I’ll give you an answer stat!

I’m also a big D&D fan. I know quite a fair amount, actually. Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms are my area of speciality (because I’ve read a lot of the Dragonlance novels, and I campaigned in the Realms.)

It’s probably a holdover from the brief conversation you and I had between **Elly **eight months or more ago. I have an odd memory that latches on to the weirdest things.

Oh, and by the way, people, give reasons! Or at least defend yourselves or something. Sure, I’m interested in your interests or else I wouldn’t’ve asked but lists are so boring to read without justification.

I’m the same way. I’m rather ignorant of anything “Simpsons” after the year 2000 or so. I got most of my knowledge from “The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family”. I studied that book like there was no tomorrow.

I could also add that starting as of a few years ago, I started following actor Tom Berenger’s movies. I was going through a very stressful time at work (very stressful) and I “escaped” in movies and books.

I saw a Tom Berenger movie I liked, figured I’d see what else he’d done, and it escalated from there. My friends and family though I’d gone off the deep end (I was watching anything he was in) because I’m not usually like that. I assured them that it wouldn’t last—that I couldn’t keep up the intensity for too long—and I was right. After the stress level eased up at work, the Tom Berenger filmfest tapered off. However, I still like his work and when he’s done something new, I will take check it out. I guess I’ll always be fond of him because he helped me “escape” during a really rough time.

I also love Pride and Prejudice—book and TV miniseries. About every year or so I have to watch the series and I’ve read the book umpteen times. Am a fan of Jane Austen’s other works too.

I’m a Trekkie. Mostly for TOS but I’ve been lucky enough to have my photo taken with a member of TNG.

Wouldn’t happen to be Marina Sirtis, would it?

BtVS and associated stuff
Firefly
Lost

**Sci-Fi ** in general and Heinlein in specific

The Discworld
The rest of geekdom I am familiar enough with to discuss with mundanes, but I can’t pass as a True Believer.

My fandom isn’t a TV show, movie, or book/series–it’s a roleplaying game. Namely, Shadowrun.

I’ve been a fan since it originally debuted in 1989, and I own all of the books, most of the novels, and a huge chunk of various memorabilia related to the game, including the originals of some of the artwork used in the sourcebooks. My website is dedicated to SR (mostly my SR fiction, including everything from short stories to a series of novels) and in the last couple of years I’ve had the pleasure of freelancing for FanPro, the company who currently produces the game (I even got to add a new original dragon to the canon!)

I like other fandoms (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, CSI) but since I tend to immerse myself in whatever my obsession is, I don’t have time for more than one serious one, so SR it is.

Oh, yes. Almost forgot. General S-F, specialization in early fandom and hard S-F

Automobiles in general.

I’m not going to say that I’m a huge Babylon 5 geek, but my favorite scene of the whole series was never actually aired, so I guess that counts for something.

And, y’know, the metal. \m/
