What's Your Fandom?

Oh yeah, and the Final Fantasy series.

I forgot to put my reasons and stuff. :smack:

Madonna - it’s The Fandom That Ate Tokyo - ok well, not really. It started off small, when I was small. I loved her music because I loved to dance (even more than the average 4 year old) and her music was perfect for dancing to. When I was 10, I saw Blond Ambition and that was it. I went nuts for Madonna. I loved her playfulness, her gutsiness, her sense of humour and her beauty. I have been a Madonna fan for so long that it is a part of my personality. I know that sounds weird and it probably is, but it’s probably the biggest source of fun in my life. Especially last summer.

BtVS - My friend Rebecca dragged me into this fandom kicking and screaming, around season 3. I loved Willow at first and I loved her even more when she went gay, like me. I am a huge, nerdy fan of the lukewarm, pulpy novelisations as well. I know they’re terrible and mostly not canon, but there are still a few that I’ve read more than once and that bring a tear to my eye. [sub]In that vein (har har), if anyone knows where I can get the last two books of the Wicked Willow A/U trilogy in Montreal, my e-mail is in my profile[/sub].

Anne Of Green Gables - These are my “comfort” books. I read the whole series, from one to eight, once a year, every year. I once met a man named “Marshall Elliott” in real life and then felt like a total dork for thinking it was cool that he was named Marshall Elliott.

FF X - was the first video game I ever completed. I’m finishing it for the third time, this time with the goal of beating the Monster Arena. It just has a special place in my heart. I am always on the lookout for cool FFX LJ icons.

I also forgot The Ghosts Of Albion, which is Buffy-related and muchos cool. LINK

Gee, what makes you think that?

BTW How are you doing these days?

You haven’t truly finished FFX until you’ve re-built the sphere grid to maximize it.

I don’t remember if I got all the way through the process, but I believe most of my team had maximized stats and almost all the spells.

CG, Obsessive Video Game Geek, Too.

[Drools with envy]

My wife simply does not understand. Yes, I have to have every issue of the Karate Kid, even though it is quite likely the single worst martial arts comic book ever produced, and I must have it because otherwise my LOSH collection would not be complete.

Of course, it goes without saying, that my passion, the one thing that occupies my leisure time more than any other, is 17th century German opera, just like Fenris and Askia.

I’m a comics geek. Not as knowledgable as Fenris or others, and my collection is spotty due to money issues, but…

I’m an animation geek. I’ve actually developped a particular interest in voice actors.

I’m a gamer, both video games and RPGs. D&D and FF being my favourites in their respective genres.

I’m a toy geek - action figures and Transformers, mostly. I bow to rjung on Transformer knowledge, though, of course.

You quagga-spawn! That’s been driving me insane for weeks now and I though I’d never figure out who sent it… you didn’t exactly leave me many clues. Thank you though… I used to have the hugest crush on her and she’s absolutely gorgeous in this picture.

And I’m doing okay considering the circumstances. Itchy as hell and more than a little sleepy but fine otherwise. Thanks for asking.

Disney

(Anne of Green Gables and Jane Austen novels are favorites for me to).

A friend got me started on Buffy around last Christmas - and I’d have to say that that’s my real fandom at the moment. I can’t seem to get sucked into Angel, and I haven’t tried Firefly. But, man, am I hooked on Buffy. I own all the seasons but 4 (and I bought 7 the day it was released). I sort of expect to get S4 for Christmas.

Another Buffy (well, really, anything Whedon) fan who got dragged into it originally unwillingly, by a friend. I convinced him he should get me season 3 on DVD (he got me 1 for a graduation gift, and season 2 for a birthday gift this summer). I insist he owes it to me, as the very day I finally publically admitted I was now an addict was the day before they cancelled Angel. :frowning:

BTW, I’m not just a Trekker.

I enjoy almost all Sci Fi and much of what some consider fantasy.

I’m a fan of Herbert, Dick, Heinlein, Clarke, Smith, Burroughs, Niven, Wells, and Tolkein, among others. I like Star Wars (mostly), Firefly, X Files, Friday the 13th - The Series, Quantum Leap, Doctor Who, MST3K, and many other sci-fi/fant-ish TV shows and movies.

I want to produce and direct my own Sci Fi movie about an Alt-Country band of the future that fights space zombies with magic swords that are lifeforms of their own. Should be fun.

I am a Crimhead, which means I am one of the bespectacled, earnest, bearded males who continue to follow the group King Crimson throughout its many evolutions. We tend to follow the associated performers and groups as well, including Robert Fripp, Trey Gunn, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford, California Guitar Trio, Tony Geballe, John Paul Jones, etc… We are often but not always fans of Frank Zappa, for the same reasons we like the Crims - uncompromising originality without much regard to commercial potential.

Females can be Crimheads as well (sans the beard of course), but for whatever reason there is incredibly little interest.

I wouldn’t consider myself a true otaku, but I like anime a lot and I watch it when I can. Or when I can afford it. It’s true what the t-shirt says: crack is cheaper than anime.

I do have a bit of an obsession with Stephen King’s books. I don’t care if you think he’s a hack. I think he’s amazing. He’s the one who got me writing in the first place. Especially with his Dark Tower Series. Sigh. Why does it have to be over.

And last but not least is my insane obsession with all things Final Fantasy VII. I’ve played that game at least six times, have half the script memorized, and even bought the soundtrack (MIDI rocks, hehe!). I’m currently going stir crazy waiting for the movie sequel, Advent Children, to come out, as well as the prequel, Before Crisis. At least I have every one of the trailers to keep me busy. God, I need help.

Behold, the number one Prince fan of all time.

I have been since the early 80’s, in junior high. I had these black lace finger-less gloves, man they were cool. I know everything about him and I know every note and every word to every song just about. I’m convinced that I love him, I mean the kind of love that I have for my family and friends. I am concerned that this makes me strange, yes, but if loving Prince is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

Hmm.

I have been a skiffy addict, in damn near every form available, for decades. I suppose I was introduced to the TV area via Doctor Who and the original Star Trek … These days, I’ve built up a fair-sized collection of archive TV material; I think anyone who owns complete runs of The Protectors and Terrahawks has got to be considered a Gerry Anderson fanboy. (And why not? Some of those puppet shows are technically brilliant, and UFO is possibly one of the best pieces of TV SF ever made.)

But if I have to pick one … it’d be the BBC’s intelligent space opera of the Seventies, Blake’s Seven. Wonderful show. (Even if the sets did wobble a bit.)

Well, now that trublmakr has copped to the Prince fandom, I can proclaim my devotion to R.E.M. Yeah, I know that almost no one likes their last three or four (or, in some cases, five or six) albums, but even though I’m not particularly fond of Reveal (the album immediately preceding their latest, except for the Best Of, which I don’t count), I’m still a huge fan. Luckily, Mr. Legend is also a fan, and we have traveled extensively to see their shows, which have always been fantastic. We often go to at least two or three shows per tour, we both belong to the fan club, and we’re active members of a large R.E.M. fansite. We collect bootlegs of shows, we get the limited edition of all the albums, and I will buy any magazine that contains an interview with any of the band members.

I liked R.E.M. from the first time I heard “Radio Free Europe” back in the early 80s, but I became a serious fan after Document came out. That was the album that got me really listening to the lyrics, and since I’m a language person, those words combined with the music I already loved hooked me forever.

I wouldn’t ever say I’m their biggest fan, though. I’ve met a few people who are vying for that title, and they tend to be just plain scary.

I am addicted to The Lord of the Rings, both book and movie, unfortunately I’ll never have the knowledge of the likes of Qadgop(I spelled that wrong didnt I?) but I still love them so much, I read them all the time and watch themovies whenever Im bored!

Minor addictions: Roswell (sometimes I feel like im the only one who loved that show), BtVS, Angel, ER, CSI and the spinoffs.

That was taken at a theatre owners convention. (I work for Paramount) We were pushing Nemesis at the time and she was really nice and funny. We had the trailer playing in our ‘booth’ and in the trailer the part of the Enterprise-E hitting the big Reman ship was on, I looked at her and said “Tell me you werren’t driving” and she said “I AM! Can you BELIEVE IT! I was so mad they made me do it.” She spoke at the dinner to about 1000 theatre owners and she had them cracking up.

Man, I was really hoping somebody would reply to my post with “me too!” Now I really do feel like a freak…

Animorphs, R.E.M. Firefly, Buffy, & Kage Baker’s Company series. Though, if you’re looking for knowledge of obscure trivia along with absolute obsession, it’d have to be either Animorphs or R.E.M. If you’re looking at online community involvement, then it’s just Animorphs. I was very, very involved in that community–hell, I ended up losing my virginity to someone in the fandom, and I invited five of them to my wedding.
