What's Your Favorite Simpsons Episode?

“El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer”

“Find your soul mate, Homer!”

Maybe Australia.

Then, the Treehouse of Horrors where they get the teleporter, and I think that’s the same one as when Homer goes into the bomb shelter that will sustain a 6 megaton blast (“No more. . .No less.”)

It’s so hard to choose…but I say my favorite is “Brother From The Same Series” featuring Cecil Terwilliger. The dialogue between him and Sideshow Bob is great.

I was overjoyed to read the brothers will be back next season, along with their father, voiced by John Mahoney (who else?). It’s a Fraiser reunion.

The top episode for me is “Homer Badman”, where he gets in trouble for sexual harrassment. Yet another episode of solid laughs:

“Tonight at six we’ll be playing the highlights from today’s footage including when the garbage man came and when Marge put the cat out - possibly because it was harrassed, we don’t know…”

“I’ll see you in hell, candy boys!”

“Don’t worry kids, we’re all going to start a new life…under the sea…”

“Then I saw her on her-CAN-just thinking about-HER CAN-HER SWEET-SWEET-S-S-S-SWEEEEEEET CAN…”

The episode where Patty/Selma marries Troy McClure.

The rumor that Troy might have slept with animals in the past comes up and the following exchange takes place between Fat Tony and one of his henchmen…

[Henchman] ‘Hey! I thought you said that Troy McClure was dead!’

[Fat Tony] ‘No… I said he sleeps with the fishes.’

I laughed my ass off!

Two of my favorites are both well-executed conceptual episodes:

22 Short Films About Springfield. A number of vignettes about various Springfield townsfolk, no more than a minute or two each in length, that are all funny. And three of them (Comparison of Krusty Burger to McDonalds, Snake and Wiggum captured by Herman the one-armed military antiques dealer, and the resolution of the same with Milhouse as the hero (“When I was a kid, this used to be a pet store.”)) are all great Pulp Fiction parodies.

Trilogy of Error. The same crazy day from each Simpson’s viewpoint, culminating in Homer’s Mob surgery as Lisa’s Science Fair project. “Linguo…is…dead…” gets a lot of play around here. Again, the parodies make the episode. Run Lola Run was spot on, and according to Wikipedia, Go was also parodied in the episode, but I’ve only seen the movie once and can’t compare.

My absolute favorite is Crepes of Wrath (a.k.a. Bart goes to France).

Homer: Please, please kids! Stop fighting. Maybe Lisa’s right about America being the land of opportunity, and maybe Adil has a point about the machinery of capitalism being oiled with the blood of the workers.

My favorite episode never gets any play on theses lists.

Bart After Dark

In my opinion, the opening of the episode is the best ever:

*At the Simpson household, Bart and Lisa are watching “Itchy &
Scratchy” when suddenly the screen goes blank.

TV: ... and fight and fight and fight...
          [screen goes blank]

Bart & Lisa: [screaming] Dad! V-chip, v-chip!
Homer: Sorry, sorry, my fault.

Homer resumes the show, which is “Good Cats - Bad Choices”. The
setting is a talk show, and Scratchy is the guest. “Says mouse friend
mistreats him” reads the caption. Backstage, Itchy “feels he is the
victim”, and goes on-stage with a broken bottle. Scratchy “doesn’t
know slashing is imminent”, but panics when reading this last caption.
His nemesis joins him – applause from the audience – raises the
bottle, and…

Announcer: We interrupt this cartoon for a special report.
Homer: [gasps] Someone found my keys!

Brockman: Kent Brockman at the Action News desk. A massive tanker has
run aground on the central coastline, spilling millions of
gallons of oil on Baby Seal Beach.
Lisa: [gasps] Oh, no!
Homer: It’ll be okay, honey. There’s lots more oil where that came
from.*

Theres tons of other great gags in the episode, including probably the best angry Springfield mob in the show’s long history of angry mobs, culminating in what is probably the last great musical number in the show’s history.

A THIRD vote here for Cape Feare.

(writing in blood) “Dear life in these United States - A funny thing happened to me” - eeuugghh" THUD

“Use a pen, sideshow Bob”

THUD

Bob: You wanted to be Krusty’s sidekick since you were twelve! The buffoon lessons, the four years in Clown College!
Cecil: I’ll thank you not to refer to Princeton that way!

Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in: The Curse of the Flying Hellfish. Great storyline and action spoofs.

I think Brooks improvised a lot on that one. I have the feeling Scorpio comes back in The Simpsons Movie- I really hope that happens.

And, that episode gave us “hey fun boys, get a room.”

  1. Hilarious language.

  2. Hilarious because it was directed at Bart & Grampa which made it a little sick.

Well there isn’t just one favorite and many already listed go in the best of the best pile, Grimey, Australia, Cape Feare, I would also add Homer and Apu where Apu gets kicked out of the Kwik-E-Mart and lives with the Simpsons. Besides a great song, the best sign (“Master knows all except combination to safe”) and some great jokes (“Are you REALLY the founder of the Kwik-E-Mart?”) it also has the best guest star appearance of the series, with James Woods.

You know, there’s a little place called Mary Ann’s Hammocks. The nice thing about that place is Mary Ann gets in the hammock with you.

“There’s one thing we don’t stand for in the Flying Hellfish, and that’s trying to kill your commanding officer!”

I’ll always love Krusty Gets Kancelled with Gabbo’s cryptic commercial in the intro: “Gabbo, Gabbo, GABBO!”

“I figure it’s some guy’s name. Some guy named Gabbo.”

Also, Homer and Krusty boxing with Krusty winning while seeing Gabbo on TV, then Maggie changing the channel to a news report that the price of bacon was expected to rise, followed by Homer making a raging comeback in the boxing. Priceless.

I thought he said ‘bum boys’. Which is even more hilarious and sicker.

Love the monorail.
Love all the Treehouse Of Horror episodes…especially the one where Homer has the time machine.
Love “Cape Feare”

But to ensure diversity and skew the poll results I want to cast my vote for the Guatamalan Insanity pepper episode.

KneadToKnow beat you to it.

D’oh!

Can I change my vote to Homer, the Human Cannonball catcher? Or maybe Rock-n-Roll Fantasy Camp?

Oh I remembered another favorite. In Children of a Lesser Clod, the dialogue between Arnie Pye in the Sky and Kent Brockman is hilarious:

Arnie: I can see them right below me … I’m going to try to nail
the driver with one of my shoes.
Kent: Arnie, please, leave this to the police.
Arnie: I’m sick of being the reporter, I want to make the news!
Kent: Arnie, this is not the time …
Arnie: You’re not the time, Kent, you’re not the time!

Kent: Arnie, Arnie, how are the children?
Arnie: I can’t see through metal, Kent.
