I grew up two blocks from the real Lee’s Hoagie House. Accept no substitute !!!
Copy all you want. Sounds heavenly!
Where’s a drooly smiley when you want one?
A BLT to me isn’t exclusively summer. A Caprese sandwich is.
This is number one, but with Nature’s Own Honey Wheat. All other sandwiches are second or lower.
Count me among the BLT lovers. Make mine on thin, toasted whole grain bread, with fresh garden tomatoes, a schmear of Hellmann’s and some crunchy lettuce. Pickle spear on the side.
My other favorite besides the BLT: a grilled pork banh mi.
Duke’s has no sugar. It has a fresh, rich, tart flavor.
Kroger makes their chicken salad with the rotisserie chicken they didn’t sell whole with halved red grapes. I really really like it. I thought the grapes would be weird, but it totally makes it.
Yeah, man. Ducati gets it.
Personally, I don’t care what brand of mayo, as long as it’s really mayo and not “salad dressing.” But the bread is toasted *very *lightly, the tomato must be just picked out of the garden, and no pepper, thanks, just a little salt. Food of the gods!
Late entry…
White bread
Little butter or mayo
Fresh peppery watercress
Sprinkle of salt
I do love fresh tomatoes, but maybe I’m weird here- I only like them when they are well chilled in the fridge.
BLT with arugula as the lettuce, plus avocado, is definitely a winner.
Lately I’ve been having a “Belgian Beer Tartine” from the Splendid Table cookbook: nice dense whole-grain bread, with a good schmear of goat cheese (thinned with yogurt till it’s spreadable). Top with thinly sliced radishes and a generous sprinkle of chopped green onions. Finish with salt and pepper. They are amazingly delicious!
You are not weird. This is the way they are SUPPOSED to be eaten!
No, warm off the vine is best.
A nice big juicy beefsteak tomato.
When I was young I used to eat tomatoes like they were apples.
Now I use a knife and fork.
Just made sandwiches for dinner tonight.
Combined these ingredients in a stainless steel bowl: chilled cooked large shrimp cut up into bite sized chunks, chopped stuffed green olives, chopped green onions, cocktail sauce, thousand island dressing, and mayonnaise. Salt and pepper to taste.
Take french roll (I like the kind with sesame seeds on top), cut lengthwise into top and bottom, and hollow out. Fill with shrimp mixture. Serve with chilled tomato soup that has salsa and your choice of worchestershire or hot sauce added to taste.
Shrimp salad on fresh rye.
Bless your heart.
My cousin once took me through their garden and he gave me a cherry tomato to eat off the vine.
I was pissed because it was a warm, sour taste that I wasn’t expecting, like a fruit.
