what's your job?

Exploration Geophysicist, or as Pantellerite once put it, one of those “I look at wiggly lines and numbers, not real rocks” types. I find places to drill oil wells, gas wells and dry holes.

I’m a doc. I love my job because it’s easy to explain what I do. (And no, I am NOT a healthcare provider! I’m a good old-fashioned primary care doctor-thank you very much!)

I’m a programmer for a small web-based financial services startup–life insurance for a start, then other stuff later. We haven’t launched yet, but we’re hoping to at the end of the summer or so. I’m in charge of the C++ code that actually does the insurance calculations, and I have a large role in the code (JSP/Java/SQL/C++) that keeps the site running. It’s interesting work (no, really!), and the people I work with are great (almost all of them). Mostly, I’m glad that I can do what I was trained for and live where I want to live (no mean feat, I can tell you).

It’s possible. I’ve considered the expat thing. Paid relocation? What type of industry? I’m in manufacturing at the moment, but I’ve also worked in financial services(payday loan auditing).

US Air Force Civil Engineer

I build it, and I can bring it down rather quickly and loudly.

I have the coolest job in the world.

I’m a saint… um… errr… I mean…

I’m a SECOND GRADE TEACHER!

I really DO love my job, btw.

Me, too! A saint, I mean.

Well, okay, I teach Kindergarten.
Part-time, at a private school, so you just know I’m making some big bucks.
:cough: yeah, right :cough:

I’m currently a dishwasher at a truckstop, which is quite possibly the least glamorous job yet mentioned.

Someday I hope to be either a computer programmer or Dictator of the World. Depends on how the revolution goes.

Oh, I work in a public school now, so I’m making the huge bucks! I have, however, also done the private school thing, so I do know how much you’re probably making. Bless you; you’re a better saint than I.

Things will get better, btw. May I suggest special education certification? There is a huge need for good special ed. teachers… Heck, there is an enormous need for any special ed. teachers!

Lawyer. Civil litigation, family. Getting away from criminal (too difficult to schedule). Previously had a technical writing business and was an English prof. Also a kayak instructor, though no longer professionally.

Hey, Lsura: If you are into city living, Toronto is pretty terrific.

I am a Mom all the time, teacher of fourth and fifth graders sometimes, and was an executive secretary for about twelve years.

G’wan! ALD? Atomic Layer Deposition? You’ve got to be kidding! Where? Here in Silicon Valley? Then your gal works for the same company as me, or else for the dreaded competition. Does her company’s name start with a “G” or an “A”?

I wasn’t actually, seriously soliciting candidates for jobs, but I’ll email you some details (it’s probably not appropriate here).

I’m a commercial and personal lines insurance broker. I do not work on commission. I do not sell life insurance. I do not have greasy slicked-back hair, diamond pinky ring, gold tooth, or smoke three packs a day.
I’m a desk jockey. But I’m really good at it.

I’m a 7th Grade Reading Teacher. I also work part time as a grocery cashier.

I’m a Fraud Analyst,Level Two ( the highest level) at an inbound call center at a major credit card issuer.

I take incoming calls from cardmembers who have:

Had their accounts flagged because of suspcious activity. The cm receives a phone call and if a rep can’t reach them, leaves a message and/or sends a letter. I get them when they call back.

Lost their cards or had them stolen.

Have recently applied for n account and the information they gave us does not verify.

Have been the victims of identity theft, account takeover or family fraud.

For some reason, made a rep in another department suspcious.

I am a columnist for a gay newspaper. I’m a student and my summer job is as a cook for a small summer camp.

I’m an analytical chemist and I do water quality work for a water and wastewater utility. The lab work isn’t too exciting, but the whole industry of water and wastewater treatment is pretty cool.

I’m on the blue-collar end of Honkeytonkwillie’s spectrum  .

I’m a civil engineering student on a 12 week placement with the Traffic Management division of the Roads Service, an agency within the Department of Regional Development in Northern Ireland. Currently I am working on the Quality Walking Corriders scheme within Belfast city.
As an aside, on Thursday I got to wear a yellow reflective jacket for the first time while out surveying the footpaths and I don’t know why but I felt childishly pleased with myself  Job satisfaction, eh?
