Anyone else up for a drive to the St Louis area? Aside from a three-day weekend this weekend (I know, too short notice), I don’t know when I’ll be free this month. Maybe we can get some people interested and plan it for next month or maybe in January, after the holidays.

I feel like I should state that there seems to be another ChiDopefest in the mix re:All ChiDope Attendees - Check in HERE also in MPSIMS. Perhaps a meeting of the two cities into one big MidwestDopefest should happen instead.

I can’t afford a roadtrip, but if it were in KC… I could make it. You all would have to spot me my alcohol, though. It’d be worth it to see me drunk.

Homer, a KC dopefest sounds cool…but you drunk is scaring the bejezzus out of me.
I’ve lived in St. Louis for just over three years now. For the first two I lived in Clayton; now I’m in Maryland Heights, right off I-270.
As for the idea of a St. Louis DopeFest, I hope you have more luck with it than I did. I organized a meeting about a year ago, and about a half-dozen people claimed they were coming. Total people who actually arrived: one. I sat in Growlers for two hours by myself, eating pretzels and playing video trivia. Though I was severely traumatized by this, I’m willing to show up at another meeting in town-- as long as someone else organizes it.
I live in West County, but I am an Alabama redneck. Its just that I seem to be attached to a job that keeps me here. You folks sure seem to enjoy beating up on west county folks.
Anyway if I qualify as a St. Louis Doper I would be glad to attend a Dopefest. Hope there isn’t a minimum number of post you have to have, I might not qualify. The other problem is that I pack a work week into Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, so I doubt I would have a chance to attend, the 3 day work week sometimes invovles sacrafices.

Your sense of humor throws me a bit. But, FTR, I like Overland Park for the following reasons:

- Fantastic economy, with almost a 0% unemployment rate.
- Practically no crime.
- Nice new homes and buildings.
- Great schools.
- People actually seem to give a damn about the city, clean neightborhoods, safe schools, etc.
- A fantastic community college.
- Lots of nice restaurants, and of course, tons of malls.
- Great access to DSL and digital cable for net access.
Your comment on “culture” is one of the most common, or even the only complaint I often hear (aside from those bright people who describe it as “New South Afrika”, ha ha). Well, culture is what you make of it. What is Kansas City’s “culture”? A few run-down bars in a “Jazz District”? A museum or three? Most would turn up their noses at the whole KC area for it’s lack of “culture”. An associate from the East remarked a while ago to me that KC would have more culture if it was more like New York City. And I’ve spent time in Paris, and London, two cities that give New York bare-bottomed spankings over the subject of “culture”. So we can always find someone better off in that regard.
Well, thank Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Baron Samedi, Odin, or whoever that KC is about as far from New York City as a city can be (or that far away from London or Paris as well)! And thank those same esteemed deities that I live in a “boring” city - one where I don’t have the excitement of wondering if I will have a job, or if I will be gang-raped if I go out for a walk at night. Hyperbole? perhaps, but I will rise to Johnson County’s defense when needed, because we have something good here. And you can criticize some things about it, sure, but overall it’s a damn fine place.

I’m not from Missouri but from Kansas. A little over an hour away from Kansas City. I’d be up for a KC Dopefest though. I believe that I’ve said that before… when Homer was trying to set something up. I don’t know why that didn’t pan out. Why don’t we try it again guys.
