When is the last time you drank egg nog?

I had some a few days ago–hubby brought home a carton from the store as a treat for me, knowing I love it. I keep planning to have it again after dinner with brandy or rum, maybe tonight. And after reading the thread I also plan to make myself some eggnog French toast, yum.

I think the poll results would look a hell of a lot different if it was taken in July.

I always get at least one cup at Christmas.

I like it, but it’s very rich; I can’t stand to drink too much of it.

Respectfully, without trying to hijack and without actually going out and trying it again, bullshit. Eggnog, at least every recipe I have seen, is significantly composed of egg yolk or whole egg. It’s an egg-based drink, named for eggs. Cookies have brown sugar, butter, flour, and maybe chocolate chips or nuts or fruits in them, and maybe 2 eggs in the whole batch. Also, it’s not baked and transformed into another magical state like cookies are.

That actually makes it sound tasty.

Opened up a carton about a week ago. That reminds me, I should have a 2nd cup.

Way over 10 years ago. I’ve never liked it. It feels like drinking a glass of foam.

I made my annual batch last night for our caroling party, with bourbon and dark rum and heavy cream. Yes, it’s worth it, but I only do it once a year because it can clog arteries from 50 paces. This recipe, more or less.

We buy a quart or two every year to be drank as is or put in our coffee. This year we also bought a quart of Silk Soy Nog which has no dairy in it (for my one son who is intolerant other than when he decides a tummy ache is worth it ie pizza). He hasn’t had a glass yet so I don’t know how the flavor is compared to a dairy nog.

Yeah, I’m aware of the Silk stuff. But that’s the stuff that flies off the shelves around here. I don’t know why they don’t stock a lot more of it, since it’s clearly a high selling item.

The powder was just an attempt to buy it online. I can only find multipacks of Silk’s nog online, and it gets rather expensive. And everyone else seems to have stopped making it.

Last Christmas. This year I am looking forward to trying it with the Peppermint Mocha Kahlua I have. I have some coconut milk eggnog on hand from a Paleo dessert recipe I just made, but I haven’t tried it.

Friday night I put 1½ shots of brandy in a glass, and got the egg nog out of the fridge. Wasn’t much left, so it was about half brandy. (I grated some nutmeg for it, too.)

So it goes well with pecan sandies? :wink:

I sat down with a cup o’ nog to read SDMB, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a poll about eggnog! I like to mix my store-bought nog with whole milk (equal parts) to cut down the sweetness.

Today in fact. First time I’ve had it in I don’t know how long. 10, 20 years? Still don’t care for it. Even though this time it had bourbon in.

I voted in the past month since it was just last week. Love the stuff !!

Eggnog? I think we have some in the fridge. Be right back…

Wow, both of those sound really good. I don’t think anyone will be impressed if I bring eggnog to a Valentine’s Day party, but I set a reminder on my phone for November.
