When is the last time you drank egg nog?

I meant to bump this thread up on Friday after Thanksgiving, to remind people to start their aged eggnog, if its something that they’re interested in having. I’m not planning anything big this year, so I’m not brewing it. However, I have been enjoying black and green cardamom as an added spice, and they could certainly be an good addition with extended soaking.

Start? We have a 1.5 liter bottle sitting in the fridge from LAST year.

I was about to post “Hang on, be right back” or something to that effect… and the I saw I made that joke last year.

We always have eggnog this time of year. It’s one of my favorite nogs.

Last night, and I picked up some more for sipping by the fire outside tomorrow night while watching the Supermoon. Usually we like to booze it up ourselves and buy Alta Dena nog, but I found a bottle of Evan Williams nog whilst shopping today and had to try it.

For me, eggnog is like pecan pie. I wouldn’t want to have either every week or even every month, but a couple of servings of each over the holiday is quite enjoyable.

I tried it as a teen, didn’t like it one bit.
Later in life, when I got out of the army, I arrived at my parents home at about 1030 pm, having spent the day finishing the drive from my then GF’s parents house in Michigan. It was Dec 23, and my sister had decided to try Martha’s Eggnog (Martha Stewart). WOW! Martha is a LUSH! The house reeked of distilled spirits and my family was most definitely, merrily, distilled as well. Even with the booze in it, the stuff was yucky.

ETA I don’t really know what’s in eggnog or how its made, I just know I don’t like it

I love eggnog, but specifically that Borden stuff that came in a can. I haven’t seen it in stores for a couple-three years now. But I had egg nog ice cream last night!

Last week. I love eggnog.

I’m always surprised that cartons of eggnog are de rigeur in grocery stores this time of year, but I’ve never seen cartons of custard. Eggnog IS basically thin custard. Just heat it a bit more, maybe some starch for stability, and bingo!

Why are no American dairy producers jumping on the custard train? It’s standard in Aust/NZ/UK. Canada?

I think the last eggnog I drank was a couple years ago, when I made it from scratch with rum and other good stuff.

Might be time for a new recipe.

Had some a week ago, and having more tomorrow!

I’m pretty strict about my diet. Egg nog is my one guilty pleasure allowed during the holiday season. I only have four ounces at a pop(I split a twelve ounce bottle with my wife and son.)

Couple months ago. An egg in a glass jar, with a half cup of cold milk and sugar, shake vigorously. Refreshing.

It makes me phlegmy.

I said “Within the last month,” though it was actually at the end of October (I stocked up for Canadian Thanksgiving).

In the US of A:

“We only get thirty sweet noggy days. Then the government takes it away again.”

—Homer Simpson

We had some on Thanksgiving, which at the time of this post was less than 30 days ago.

I feel like there are two very different beverages I’ve enjoyed, both called eggnog They are related, but different enough that I’d like to have separate names for them.

There the foamy boozey egg-based confection that friends serve around New Years. Emphasis on boozey. So much booze that I’m sure it kills any germs that might have been in the copious raw eggs that go into making this. Then there’s the stuff that I buy in a carton between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s basically sweetened flavored half-and-half. Yes, there’s some egg in there, but it’s not the primary ingredient either by flavor or by texture. I like the stuff Hood sells and always have a small glass with some nutmeg on Christmas morning.

Once per year, at/around Xmas, I have a glass or two. I like the stuff, but it’s extremely rich, and more than a glass (and a small one, at that) a day will give me terrible heartburn.
