When the Big Day finally arrives for the United States, who will be the Dope's "Praeco Magnus?"

I don’t think there’s a shuffling-off-this-mortal-coil more…er, highly anticipated…than Donald Trump’s. People have champagne in their fridges for the day (I know I do), fancy scotches and whiskeys ready to shotgun, dances choreographed, parade routes ready to be roped off, etc.

Close-knit community that we are, I imagine many of us will be bee-lining our way to the Dope when we first hear the news to offer our own commentary, insights, celebratory ejaculations and “condolences.” Perhaps some of us will actually first read of the passing while perusing the Boards.

Anyway, when the Big Day happens, especially if it happens while Donald is still the sitting president, it will be an historic moment indeed. As such, I’ve created out of whole cloth an award which will be given to the first person on the SDMB who accurately announces the death of Mr. Trump: the title of Praeco Magnus.

It sounds fancy cuz it’s Latin, and it means “great herald.” The award has no monetary value, no physical trophy is presented, nor does it come with a special sash. It would, however, look pretty nifty on a resumé, and it very well could get you laid (in certain circles). The winner could get the title printed on a t-shirt at their own expense.

If the Big Day arrives when Donald Trump is no longer president (after a resignation, removal or January 20, 2029), the title will still be awarded, but any promise of getting laid (in certain circles) is probably null and void.

The award will be given to the person, based on timestamps of posts, who makes first mention AND links to a credible site, the announcement of Donald’s passing. Should two or more people post simultaneously, they will all be given the title.

Good luck to us all, and may humanity survive to see the day this award is given!

I’m rooting for @Monty to get it. That poor guy has been tirelessly wading through cesspools of Trump-related shenanigans for 10 years (more or less) to keep our outrage tanks topped up. Let him have one last triumphant news brief & retire with honor!

My crack legal team has advised me to note that Rule 7 is in effect for this contest, and anyone violating Rule 7 in order to gain some sort of advantage in the competition to be named Praeco Magnus will go to prison.

I suggest that on a purely voluntary basis, those of us who are willing and able offer our own additions to the award. For example, I will be utterly thrilled to send our Praeco Magnus a package of some small Hawaiian treat (the owner of the world’s most awesome macadamia nut toffee company lives across the street from me and I am always pleased to support his delicious business) to celebrate. (Offer void outside the US).

There’s just one big problem. We then get President Vance.

To me, Vance is evil within normal limits. Trump is evil outside of the boundaries. Trumps serious mental health issues and personality disorders make him evil to the point where it disrupts the system as a whole. I don’t think Vance would try to destroy democracy or commit treason the same way Trump does.

Also Vance can’t keep the MAGA cult together. Nobody can hopefully keep that cult alive, so hopefully it loses some power and influence

I’m actually hoping that trump survives slightly past the halfway point of his presidency as that would limit Vance to a single elected term, assuming that the relevant amendment is still a thing by then.

If that were to happen, Vance could still legally be elected twice.

Trump would need to perish BEFORE the halfway point of his presidency so Vance could only be elected once.

Here’s the opening sentence of the 22nd Amendment:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
