When the plague is over in the MMP

@Flytrap: I just measured off 15 degrees on a piece of cardboard with a protractor and measured it with my square. My carpenter days are more than 40 years behind me, but I can still lay out rafters and stairs if needed.

I was a journeyman carpenter back then. There was no work. Construction had come to a screeching halt due to the exorbitant interest rates during the Carter administration. I was running the tongue saw at a slaughterhouse to keep the family fed. The slaughterhouse closed abruptly. I took the first thing I could find: a job recharging fire extinguishers. a couple of months later the owner asked if I thought I could work on fire alarms. That was 41 years ago. I retire in 63 days…

Woke up around quarter after eight. Amazingly, I wasn’t greeted by two starving cats when I walked out of the bedroom – presumably Lady SCAdian fed them before leaving for her ungodly early doctor’s appointment. Chicken chimi and coffee for breakfast (with the usual dozen pills as hors d’oeuvres).

I agree with swampy that the best part of retirement is the lack of need to be anywhere or do anything. I’ve already read almost 150 books this year, in addition to the time “wasted” mucking about on the computer. Other than grocery shopping and the library, the only thing that calls me away from the house regularly is cardiac rehab, and after today I’ll only have two weeks of that left.

Morning all. Headed for 94F today (oh joy). AC is working this morning, but stopped yesterday afternoon, so something is wrong with the inside box. Probably need to have a new one installed.

Hippy, sounds like me. Graduated college to teach school, but there were too many grads and not enough jobs, so I substituted for four years and was ready to join the navy when someone suggested I try the Civil Service exam. Did well, got interviewed by this place in Indiana…and retired 34 years later.

suze, if you told here the conditions and she rejected them, you have every right to fire her.

FCM, farewell to Cleo…never easy to lose a pet.

red, hope Nelson does well, glad no unexpected bumps were found.

All y’all have a good Firday now.

Also up stupid early. I shall be the hero who feeds the cats, then I’ll stack a little firewood before the spiders get active.

I look forward to reading 150++ books a year. I push to read 2 a week.

Metalmouse, the first thing to try, if it is at all “smart”, is replace the batteries, or charge it, if it is so inclined.

Happy Firday!
It’s already 80 degrees outside, supposed to get up to 91. The sun is shining and it’s humid.
I think we will skip the park this afternoon. It’s going to be really hot, and I don’t like the afternoon crowd so much.

I think today will be clean up messes day. I already fixed a billing issue with the day care. Later I need to talk to my employer about some pay issues. No matter how I juggle the numbers, I can’t figure out how they calculated my check. It’s more than I expected, but I still want to know how they came up with the number they got. They still haven’t fixed last week’s statement
I also found out yesterday, that even if my son had gotten the application in on time where my friend irks, they still couldn’t hire him because his ID has expired. I think he will have that issue whereever he goes, so that needs to be fixed.

Sorry about the kitty FCM

Hugs to {{{Nelson}}}, even though all the ‘experts’ will tell you that dogs don’t like hugs. I call BS on that because my Echo loves a good hug, and so do her friends Jax and Lily.

I think a nap will happen later. I had weird dreams that kept waking me up.

If his I.D. expired recently (as in, during the shutdown/quarantine) many processes that require it have leniency or a “grace period” allowed now, since many folks haven’t been able to renew their perfectly legitimate documents.

No guarantee, of course, but it’s not automatically a dealbreaker right now.

RIP axolotl > :frowning: <

At least, I’m pretty sure it’s dead, it can be a bit hard to tell with an amphibian that only ever moves a few times a day… It’s not going to come round regardless…

Sorry to hear about Cleo too Moooooom.

RIP Cleo and axolotl.

susan - the housecleaner incident sounds awful.

Reading about temperatures elsewhere makes me very happy to be in Mexico City. The highs here right now are in the high 70s and lows in the low 50s, so it’s quite pleasant.

Well…off to do something exciting. I think dishes are next on my list.

Hugs to all.

MMMMMM - lunch was leftover shrimp with broccoli over fried rice - heavy emphasis on the broccoli (there were only 3 shrimps.) Shortly, Roxy will go down for her nap and daughter and I will replace the terlit innards. I need to read the instructions, then bring up a pile of old towels because it will make a mess.

FCD has been apologizing about not being able to do it himself. Sheesh, as if I’m incapable of re-gutting a terlet!!! He was the same way when I replaced the attic fan. I understand that he’s used to doing everything himself, but I don’t understand entirely why he feels the need to apologize for having surgery that restricts him. I really don’t mind doing these things. I wouldn’t want to have to make a living doing them, but a couple hours of my time to save calling a pro? No question!

The fun is going to be after the kids move out. I’m hoping to repaint every room before we have new carpet installed. But since we’re getting new carpet, I won’t have to worry about covering the old stuff! So there’s that. But that’s still a ways off.

I felt sorry for Daughter yesterday. It was hard enough on her to make the decision to put Cleo down (tho she was pretty sure that would be the case) because she said she felt like the vet was pushing her towards tests and treatment. It may not have been the case, but that’s how she read it, and it made it more difficult. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our regular vet - they were temporarily closed because some of the staff had contracted Covid.

Which reminds me - I need to try to call them for all 3 of my critters. Off to find the number…

On the plus side of the day, I’ve just had my final course results in; got a first, which is nowt to complain about (not sure how that translates to Murrican, but it’s the highest grade here).

Feel like I should celebrate, but not sure how.

Mornin’ y’all!

Nelson is recouping at the vet from anesthesia and I’ll be able to pick him up around 2. I’m like sari , some dogs do like hugs. Not only does Nelson like them, but he demands them. I got the grocery shopping done and am fixing to go to Tar-jay to pick up prescriptions and get a new lawn chair (the old one broke last week). Then, I’ll swing by and sign my new lease before going to get NellyBelly. I have a feeling that he’s going to be a lap puppy tonight.

My joints are somewhat better today. Still exhausted, but I’m determined to push through that. I need to do laundry and walk to the store. So happy I get to have a normal day again!

FCM, I’m so sorry about Cleo. Do you think FCD’s repeated apologies are his way of expressing his chagrin that he can’t do the traditionally-manly tasks he used to do? (I’m not saying they ARE manly, mind you. My mom was in charge of fixits in my family.) Good luck with the terlit–not that you need luck when you have skill.

nut, so sorry about the axolotl. He was a lucky amphibian to have a home with you. And congrats on the first! Perhaps a celebratory glass of bubbly is in order?

susan, sorry the housecleaner violated the agreement. Was she at least shamefaced about it?

Nut, congrats on the “A+” as we would probably say in the US. And you’ll figure something out for celebration…

red good news about Nelson. Give him a couple of scritches from me.

FCM, I would have trouble re-doing a toilet, so hopefully won’t have to ask for your assistance…

Sari, I agree with shoe, but he should make a couple calls about renewal, better now than never…

Alien, I never considered that; it’s a little digital wall unit, not sure if it’s batteries or house power, I’ll check it out. Working fine this morning.

91F and according to the weather folks, it feels like 102F outside…I have no plans to find out if it does or not. County is up over 3,000 cases now, about 1% of the population, so another reason not to hurry out. Good news is that 90%+ of the folks I see at Wal-Mart, Kroger and Loew’s in the past few days are masked. Guess even Ali-bamans can learn.

Take care all.

I’ve uploaded this to the Mumpers’ Recipe Blog. Haven’t uploaded anything in ages (looks like the last time was 2016).

If there are other recipes that have been shared, but aren’t on the blog, send me a PM or send me an email to my user name at gmail.

In what should be a shock to absolutely no one, our local athletic association has canceled all future games due to coronavirus transmission. This is why we can’t have nice things - people are idiots and won’t wear masks. What’s funny is that the issue is the adults, not the kids. Everyone packs in there elbow to elbow, only wearing masks in the bathrooms. Seriously, people, what did you expect?

Anyway, hot, hot day today. I’m so glad it’s the weekend. I took Monday off, so I’m hoping I can just slob around for the next three days. T’would be amazing. Even t’werrific.

Terlit fixage has been accomplished with minimal cussing and only 2 trips out to the shop for tools (once for the big channel lock and once for a 1/2" deep socket.) The only problem was when daughter was hooking up the water supply, she cross-threaded the attachment, so the floor behind the terlit is really clean! It’s all good now, and I even ran the vacuum cleaner as Daughter put away all the bathroom stuff and hauled the wet towels to the laundry room.

As an aside, for all that I’ve given FCD crap over the years for his love of tools, it’s really nice to be able to pull the right tool out of the tool box and not have to jigger something up. (Yes, jigger is a cromulent tool term - derived from jury-rigged or jerry-rigged, depending on where you’re from.) The right tool for the right job is a necessity for saving one’s sanity and one’s fingers.

So, now, what? Not sure what we’ll do for supper. Probably clear out leftovers. Meanwhile, I need some chillage.

Bank clocks said 71 and 74 when I drove past on the way home from cardiac rehab, and the sky fell a bit this morning, reducing the humidity.

Resting blood oxygen level was 98%, and it went up to 100% while I was exercising, so a big, loud “Ha!!” to those who claim they can’t get enough air if they’re wearing a mask.

Forgot to check the bunnies when I got home, so I’d best go do that now…

Howdy Y’all! This mornin’, I picked up limbs all over the church house yahd, as did another person (loaded up both our trucks with limbs!), and then mowed for four hours. Four of us were mowin’ but 'tis a big place so lots of mowage. I got back to da cave, took a shower, then had a little nappage. OYKW went to MickeyD’s and got us burgers and fries for sup cause we could not be bothered to make anything. 'Tis hawt out so glad to be inside in the a/c.

MetalMouse alien’s post reminded me that I did recently change the battery in my thermostat. That could very well be the problem you are havin’. FWIW, it’s an easy fix.

nuts so sorry about the critter. Yay on first grade though. Heh. That kinda looks like yay for finishin’ first grade. :woman_student:

moooooom yay for fixed terlet!

nellie glad you’re havin’ a better day.

red glad Nelson came through OK. Hugs and skritches from Unca swampy.
