When the plague is over in the MMP

Woke around 4 for the potty and have been up ever since - big surprise there, huh?

I’ll definitely do some laundry today. SIL was going to take the trash and recycling, but his second job starts today, so he’ll be working from 8-8. No biggie - I still need to break down a couple of boxes and daughter and I can get all the household trash gathered. Heck, we can even load the truck so he can take it all tomorrow.

It’s also critter fountain cleanage day, and I should push the mower in the ditch before it grows too out of control. We shall see about that. Our area is promised very hot and humid with not a lot of chances of rain over the next 2 weeks, which sucks. I’ve quit watering the lawn, but there are some plants I can’t neglect. Minimal watering there anyway.

Onward into the heat and nasty summer-y-ness! Happy Saturday!

Morning all. Up at 0630 today, so nappage is a possibility. Need to mail some bills here in a bit, but nothing much on the agenda. Due to reach 94F today.

Thanks all for the advice on the AC. I’ll try spidey’s ‘shut down and use blower’ this weekend and see if that works, then call the company who filled up the Freon a couple months ago on Monday and have them check it.

shady, three dozen Krispy Kreme donuts! Since I live alone I’d never get that many, but they wouldn’t last that much longer (which is why I don’t go there often).

susan, concur with swampy, you are being more than fair to the housekeeper.

Butters, I’m sure the Salvation Army will be happy, and your husband’s recovery is remarkable. Good for both of you.

And that’s all the news that’s fit to type…all y’all have a good weekend.

I’m not entirely sure but I don’t think A/C uses up Freon. Did they check for a leak?

Are you in secret communications with spidey or did I miss him above?

Note to self: Get out and walk earlier - it’s too hot and muggy after about 8:30. But that’s done, plus there’s a load in the washer and the cat box has been scooped. I count that as productivity.

Happy Saturday!

Nice morning, suppossed to be hot 95 degrees today.
Now that I am home from the park, I’ll be staying indoors.

We had some new dogs there today. A cute little puppy, a Jack Russell?, and a poodle. The poor puppy and her owner were intimidated by my two. Mine can look aggressive but they are just playing. Ripple is very good with puppies, the daycare puts him in with the puppies because he is so gentle with them. Ripple finally got her to play a little. The poodle was scared of all the dogs so the owner took her over to the small dog side. The Jack Russell wore out everybody, including the airedale. It takes a lot to wear out an airedale. The JR was still going strong and whining because nobody would play with him.

I wondered where Spidey’s post was too, FCM

I’m sorry about your axiloti Nut, and congrats on the good grade.

I have no clue as to what I am going to do today. I have a list, a long list. I suppose I should start at the top and irk my way down it. Except the first thing is take the branches to the dump, and that is not happening today.
Too hot and I don’t feel like taking the dogs with me.

I’m glad your hubby is doing so well Butters.

All this talk about the heat made me check my local weather. 86 degrees. That, for the mountains, is Entirely Too Hot. I may be staying inside today. I do need to venture out as soon as I’m done with my laundry, though. I have books waiting to be picked up at the library.

I’ve been trying to see the comet for the last couple of nights, but it’s been too cloudy. I hope it clears up soon. I wanna see comets! :telescope:

@Seanette, waiting to hear what your oximeter says. Some of my friends would tell you it’s impossible to be any odder than I am.

Do Krispy Kreme doughnuts survive freezing? Lady SCAdian knew a man who ordered 26 boxes of Thin Mints every year when the Girl Scouts came round; he’d put them all in the freezer and over the next year take out one tube of cookies each week…

Up at nine, eating breakfast and ingesting my caffeine for the day. Need to break out the weedwhacker and assault the growth around the rabbits’ pen, along with the front hedge, which is making backing out of the driveway an interesting procedure.

Housemate got called back to work (security at one of the casinos). Lady SCAdian was, too, but she had to decline because she would have had to wear a mask at all times when on the property. Fortunately the mask requirement means that’s not considered a suitable offer of work, so she can still get unemployment. (She’s done a lot of needlepoint these past four months, and has started work on her master’s in accounting.)

Tried the “Liberty Brew” version of Mountain Dew; none of us care for it. Regular Dew and the white version (which I haven’t seen in ages) remain the best versions…

Specific area, wherever you put them! They’re about 4"x6" (I’m too lazy to get up and measure them, LOL), and you can cut them to size! I cut one into three pieces: one for the back of my neck, and one on each shoulder.

If you can handle anti-inflammatories, the Diflofenac gel is pretty nice, too. You apply it where it is needed, but it also becomes a little bit systemic. But less systemic than swallowing a pill.

I’m glad that Hubs is doing so well butters.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and a load of towels and sheets in the wash. Nelson is back to his cheerful, energetic self this morning. We’ve played a few rounds of fetch and I found that he’s ok with being pilled with dilled havarti. :stuck_out_tongue: I still plan on picking up something easier to work with and less expensive for the job though. Not a lot in the way of chores today so we’ll likely hit the dog park once it cools down in late afternoon.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Good morning, y’all. During my brief time in the MMP, I have observed that y’all mostly share nice-ish things that you’re up to re cooking, pets, yard work, weather, etc. I like it. Fun to read.

I only have sad stories to tell. The death of a friend’s dog and another friend’s brother (from COVID). Next Tuesday is my husband’s yahrzeit (20 years-- can’t believe it!). Last night was very bad. Woke up in a panic attack and even after .25 mg of xanax, it never abated. Still hasn’t.

Doing laundry this morning as I do every Saturday. I just wash the stuff I’ve worn over and over during the week. Need to go to the grocery story to stock up on fruit–cherries, plums, and Texas peaches are spectacular right now. I’ll probably wait until tomorrow morning and go to Whole Foods–smaller group of shoppers. Got up too late to walk, as it’s already getting hot. I will take Sweetie on a short walk before noon.

Not sad: I have a ginormous fig tree in my front yard–as tall as my house–that must have hundreds of figs on it. All day it’s covered with squirrels and birds helping themselves. Now THAT is something that makes me happy. Earlier this week one of my cats brought a live bird into the house–something she hasn’t done in years. I managed to catch it in my hands. It was bleeding slightly from the head, but I don’t think it was mortally wounded, as it bit me quite hard. I released it into the yard and then locked up both cats for the next few hours while I gathered my wits about myself.

Full disclosure: I am wearing out and having a hard time filling the days. Things are very bad in Texas right now. I don’t think I’m going to catch it, because I am so isolated and extremely careful on my few out-of-house excursions. The industriousness of the other MMPers is wondrous to behold. I envy those who are locked down with someone (provided you like the person, that is).

You are correct, if it is low, it leaked.

Thel - we do our share of whining and bitching and even sharing sadness - hugs tend to flow freely, and getting it all out is theraputic. No, I’m not a therapist but I’ve played one… um, seen one on TV.

Two loads of laundry on the lines, and I’m pretty sure it’s all dry already. I’ll bring it in later. SIL took the trash and recycling this morning after all - his first job is an on-demand monitoring job for the Dept of Natural Resources, and there was no demand this morning, so he cleared all the crap out of the garage, then went to his regular job.

Critter fountain has been disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, and refilled. Lunch has been ingested. I’ve dumped a London broil into a sack with some marinade - it’ll be supper. Sides TBD. For now, chillage.

It seems that I ought to join the crowd and do laundry.

FCM: How did that “pseudo-shepherd’s pie” turn out? I take it you mean you were using tater tots instead of mash for the top of it? I had that sometime earlier this year – might have been when we went out for our anniversary in January – and it was very good.

Add me to the list of those doing laundry today – have to wash all the shirts and jeans that got soaked with sweat at rehab.

Have recovered from the heat and the backache engendered by using the weedwhacker, so I’m going to shower and head up to the base to pick up a few things at the commissary and see if the bottle/can redemtion centre at the exchange has opened up yet…

I have not been online too much lately. I have completely missed the MMP up to here. Re: the opening question, I still have my cruise scheduled for December, but I will likely cancel. It was South America, Antartica and a complete solar eclipse. 3 weeks at sea. Wahhhhhh!

I got my permanent crown finally, so I’m cautiously re-entering the world of biting into food. So far, so good. This dentist did an outstanding job. I may ask him about my other crowns. I have 3. One is a back molar. The tooth was damaged by my wisdom tooth, and eventually just failed. The front two teeth were actually damaged by a dentist, who then put crowns on them. Not so happy about those.

I’m continuing my efforts to unpack and get the house more livable. It would be much easier if things were opened up around here and I could donate or drop of recycling.

Yoshi is officially bigger than Akiko. She still rules with an iron paw, of course. He can rest his head on my dining room table, not that we allow that. He is a very sweet dog and generally does exactly what we ask him to do. Akiko just turned 2 and the puppy behavior is starting to slow down. I’ll have to think of some other way to burn off all of Yoshi’s energy.

Happy Saturday all!

 Thank you.

Why did Spidey forsake us?

Cupcakes too

From your mouth to **Wifey’**s ears.

We’re back at the big ‘house’ and the second thing I wanted to do when we got here was mow the lawn. (The first thing was restock provisions.) Well, our 30 year old lawnmower died. This was no Thorsday. I was all ready to just go out and buy a new one, but Wifey said no. She got on the phone and within an hour had offers of 3 old used mowers for free from her friends. Unfortunately none of them have materialized yet. So the yard still looks like a jungle. I was gonna go to the stores Friday, but I had mentioned to Wifey that I wanted to cur the top out of the camellia tree next to the house (it’s too close and causing damage) so she arranged for grandson to bring our old Ranger pickup back and help haul branches to the dump yesterday. So I did that instead. And wouldn’t you know it, grandson backed into a Range Rover at the dump and we had to deal with that yesterday afternoon, so I’m gonna go get groceries, and prescriptions, etc. today. I hope all the bad JuJu from the last two days has dissipated and it’s safe for me to go out. Did I mention the toilet backing up Thorsday afternoon? le sigh

Hugs to all. I gotta go get busy.

Evening all.

One of the issues I’d not thought of living here; what to do with dead small pets? I always buried them in the garden before, but there isn’t one here. I’m not just throwing a pet in the bin, and flushing animals is an awful idea- clogs the drains and can even spread diseases- but neither am I paying for something like an axolotl to be cremated. My solution: I called up my beehive landlord and asked if they’d mind if I buried it there. This is daft enough, but it was his wife was the one who answered the phone, I rarely speak to her at all, as she has nothing to do with the bees (from what I’ve heard, she really wants to move to a big town, but he has loads of livestock and loves it there,). She was very nice about some random loony calling and asking if they could bury a kind of newt thing and gave me permission, but I think I made her day a fair bit weirder…
