hippie, Willie sounds like a good soul, a good friend, and a fascinating guy. I’m sorry he’s gone.
I hope I sleep well tonight. Last night at 2:30 AM, my phone loudly played the Text Message Alert, only there was no text message. I was just drifting off to sleep when a loud, rhythmic, banging began directly upstairs. I’m all for people having fun, but if they could just be a LITTLE quieter at 3 a.m., that’d be great. However, I doubt they notice.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big plan of the day is deheathenization (virtually) followed by N.O.L. which shall be roasted poke loin, smashed N.O.T. 'n gravy, peas 'n carrots, rolls, and ‘nanner puddin’. There may or may not be quality cee-mint pond time. Kinda overdid it a bit out there yestiddy, so might be a good thing to just stay inside today.
{{{Hippie}}} so sorry about Willie and your daughter’s friend’s dad. Willie seemed an interestin’ character.
{{{nuts}}} sorry about your axolotl. Glad you were able to find a final restin’ place for him/her.
{{{Thel}}} this is a place to share both the good times and the bad times. Always feel free to post about any and all of both.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day!
Here comes another one, just like the other one… Weather-wise, that is. We’ve got another hot, muggy day on tap. I need to mow, mostly with the riding mower, but the ditch ain’t gonna clear itself, dammit.
I’ll probably break out the carpet cleaner once Roxy heads to her other grandmother’s place. The area around her high chair is decidedly spotted and dirty. Yet another reminder that a light carpet isn’t a wise choice for a space where one’s family actively lives. On the other hand, it’s been 16 years since it was first installed, and for the most part, it’s been OK, the most part being the 14 years pre-babby.
And I need to print out the estimated tax voucher and a check for the state, since I’m having a terrible time accessing FCD’s account on their website and there’s no one available via phone to help (stoopit plague.) Anyway, that’ll go out in tomorrow’s mail.
I think that’s enough to keep me out of too much trouble today. Happy Sunday!!
I’m REALLY hoping to be able to continue working from home. Or at least 3 days a week. Aside from just preferring it, it would really help when I have to plow my driveway. It sucks when I have to do that after work.
I do need a haircut, like the poster above I’ve trimmed it a little, but after doing it a few times, I really need a pro. We hope our vacation was only delayed for a year, our reservations for Key West are now for this coming April. We will probably just start going to restaurants again, but that’s only a few times a month anyway. We have been going to a few take out places when we are in town just to mix things up. We usually cook at home anyway.
Not a heck of a lot has changed for me (except working from home which is great). I think it’s harder on my Wife as she has a relatively new job and she misses her old co-workers.
Mornin’ Up at 0630 today, I need one of those ‘sleep till 9am’ days here. Bright and sunshiny, going to 91F today. Debating mowing the lawn, it’s not really too bad but rain is predicted for Tue-Wed, which could make it a mess. We’ll see. Outside of that nothing much on the agenda.
Hippie, that was a week you’ll not be wanting to repeat anytime soon. My condolences.
nellie, hope quiet reigns tonight.
doggio, you’re not an ordinary wierdo; you’re an extraordinary wierdo.
Ok, need to finish my banana and cherry Kool-Aid morning snack and get down to the Sunday puzzles. All y’all take care.
Phase 1 of mowage complete - 45 sweaty minutes of push-mowage. It was 78° when I started and it’s 83° right now. Fortunately, riding John Deere (phase 2) isn’t nearly as strenuous. I also learned that I need to wear gloves when pushing - there’s a nasty blister at the base of my left thumb.
But for now, I’m going to sit in the a/c and drink some ice water before tackling the rest of the chore. No guilt for not walking today!
Home from the park and it’s getting hot out there.
I was there for 4 hours this morning, and would probably be still there if Echo hadn’t been acting like a little bitch. She kept getting into Bully’s face and going all Tazmanian Devil on him, so I said enough and brought her home.
I keep telling her that one day her alligator mouth is going to get her canary ass in trouble.
{{{Hippie}}} So sorry for your horrible week. Friends like Willie are hard to find. I’ve known a few like him, great friends, but give truth to the expression that ‘ignorance is bliss’.
I think today will be another lazy day like yesterday. I really don’t feel like doing much of anything. Of course I’ll irk this evening for a few hours. Other than that, sloth is the only thing on the agenda. It’s not like the dust is going to go anywhere anyway. I should clean out the fridege though, since the trash goes out tonight and I didn’t do it last week.
They screwed a 2x4 on the side rail of the shed to protect the roofing material from the ladder. I tried to take it off yesterday, but my Milwaukee drill couldn’t budge the screws. I tried a screwdriver, but the screws were too tight.
I painted the new roof frame white yesterday. I also painted the door, which actually needs to be thrown away by Mrs. L.A. doesn’t want me spending money on it. Now that she can see the veneer rippling off, maybe she’ll change her mind. All I did on the shed yesterday was paint. Mrs. L.A. wants a darker grey for the sides than I do, but she said she’d sleep on it.
Today I plan to cut some extra roofing material and apply it to the patio steps.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, black beans in the crock, chicken in the marinade and am fixing to make the cilantro-lime slaw so’s all I’ll have to do to finish supper is bake the chicken. I’ll do KP momentarily and play in the studio most of the day, inside and out of the heat and pollen.
So bum gerbils to all! Up, fed, more-or-less caffeinated, and trying to work up enough energy to go stand in the rain locker. Currently 75 according to weather-dot-gov; they’re predicting 83 today, then dropping only to 71 tonight. The rest of the week doesn’t kook much better.
Don’t feel like dealing with the weedwhacker today, so I think I’ll just go up and finish one of the books I’m reading.
Not yet up, not yet caffeinated. We need to go do yard maintenance on the property we’re selling. Then I need to finish stacking wood. Vegetables are to be harvested and eaten. I have about an hour of work-related work to do. Still thinking about getting clippers and giving myself a buzz.
Haircuts… Forgot to check on the barber shop whilst on base yesterday. But it’s less than two months until my fall haircut is due, so I think I’ll just wait until then.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Already had a pot of coffee, did a load of laundry, and took Gordie on two anti-Invisible Mole People patrols. time to dust and vacuum after brunch.
I do need a haircut, but Tar-Jay has cheap clippers(not like I have a lot of hair. Well, it stopped growing out the top of my head, and started growing out my ears.
Sounds like you treat you body like a (People’s) Temple.
Good morning. Been up forever. Walked before dawn when it was a tolerable 75. It’s still a not-bad 82, but will be in the high 90s before all’s said and done. Then I was off to Whole Foods for lots of fruit–cherries, grapes, plums, and Texas peaches. I will have Friday’s leftover pizza for lunch and then plan to make this recipe in my Instant Pot. Low-Carb Goulash Soup with Red Peppers and Cabbage
It has everything I love in it-- especially CABBAGE–YAY!
Slept well last night for a change, due to pre-bed gentle shower, herb tea, one episode only of 1950s Perry Mason, but mostly .25 mg of xanax. According to my fitbit, I got one and a half hours of deep sleep. Usually it’s only a few minutes and often none at all.
Driving home from WFM I passed a neighborhood Catholic church, and they were having Mass on the front lawn. It was oddly touching to see the congregation of about 50-ish people scattered about, some in their Wal-Mart canvas chairs, some sitting down on the grass. This is kind of a snooty church (I used to belong to it in my college days when I was Catholic), and the humbleness of the assembly tolerating uncomfortable conditions in the already-sweaty humidity-- I was moved by the sight. I envy people of strong faith-- my next door neighbor, though an intellectual, is one-- it must be a comfort during crisis. (I don’t mean the fanatics who use faith and God as a weapon-- I mean the sincere seekers.) God knows, I tried, but it didn’t take.
Another day - week - month of coping ahead for us all.
I hope you’re just looking far ahead and not actually expecting a blizzard today (although the weather has been pretty strange).
Thank you all for your kind comments. We are about to go out to brunch and then take the out of towners to the airport. Things may settle down once that is accomplished. The odds and ends of time have been spent with my chain saw, and last night the landlord for the rental house up the street came to the door and asked if she could haul off all of the cut branches. They filled their pick up and will be back for the rest today.
I plan to spend some quality time with a cold beer and my Weber kettle this evening for some burgers and then a quiet evening.
Oh yeah. We don’t usually get much snow until October, but have had some bad storms then. I remember a few 2 footers. I usually wait to plow until I get a good amount packed down on our gravel drive.
Phase 2 of mowage was interesting. I did part of the side along the road, then did the front yard. Apparently Roxy saw me out there and wanted to join me. As I was finishing that area, I saw SIL standing in the garage holding her, but I had work to do, so I headed back to finish the side, including the slope. The last part of the slope is more dirt than anything growing, so it was really dusty - ick!
When I finished that, I asked SIL if Roxy wanted a ride, and he nodded. So I took her in my lap and he went to open the side gate for me. Then Roxy and I mowed part of the back yard - it had really grown in the last 3 days!! She had fun and I dealt with fighting her for control of the steering wheel!
I had to take another shower when I was done - I was wet from sweat and (I think) a leaking diaper. Been a long time since I needed 2 showers in one day! FCD came in as I was getting dressed and we decided to hit DQ for lunch, because he wanted a chili dog.
We got there minutes after they opened, and he snagged the table on the patio in the shade of the building while I ordered our food. I have to say, their chicken bacon ranch sammich (without bacon) is quite good! Then we got some ice cream. It was a nice little break, and the first time we’ve eaten out since the plague hit. As we were leaving, one of the employees came out with a rag to clean our table, as if baking in the 90°+ heat on a black table wouldn’t terminate all germs!
And now, Roxy is with her other grandmother, FCD is working, and I’m about to watch Hamilton again. I may have changed my mind about cleaning the carpet…
I slept better last night, though I was startled awake at 1:15 a.m. by a loud vacuum cleaner above. They don’t work nights, so I don’t know what the deal is. However, the noise level has been much better lately, so kudos to them for that.
I’m feeling drained today so will rest up.
Mooom, sounds like you had a great joy-ride with the Rockstar.
MetalMouse, I like your idea of a morning snack. Gee, I haven’t had Kool-Aid since the kids grew up. Remember when it wasn’t pre-sweetened? We didn’t get Kook-Aid very often, but I liked to watch the white cloud of sugar getting mixed in, and then, of course, the real thrill of the colorful Kool-Aid swirling through. I hate to admit it, but my favorite flavor was root beer. My favorite color, though, was black cherry.
