nettie, if you’re fully stocked now, just keep replenishments up. Plan out alternatives for items that may become unavailable later so that there’s no panic buying.

Thel, it’s pretty easy. Cut up the cabbage like you would for southern fried cabbage, toast some cumin seed, fennel seed and garlic in oil, put the cabbage and 1/4 c. water in and put a lid on it. When the cabbage is almost done, put in 1/2 to 1 c. of frozen peas and heat until the peas are thawed and slightly cooked. It’s a good side dish for an otherwise spicy Indian meal.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and a load of tee shirts for Sis in the wash. I have a little mending to do before taking my friend to the eye doctor. When I get home, mopping and making supper will complete day 2 of staycation.
It was a nice morning at the park. I left early because nobody was there after Lucy left and I need to do some stuff around here. Like go over the taxes again - thanks FCM Not that I have to go over the taxes but for the comic.
The police said if they see the guy driving golf balls at the park they will ask him to stop, but they can’t make him stop, and they can’t do anything about it until somebody gets hurt. I told my friend that I bet if we collected all the golf balls and started throwing them at the asshole’s windows, the police could do something.
Along with going over the taxes again, we have to pick up groceries sometime today. It would be nice to get the taxes ready to mail before that, as the post office is right by the grocery store.
I was expecting to pay twice as much tax this year than I paid last year, as my income went up. I was not expecting to pay four times as much, which is why I think I am missing something, but if I am, I sure can’t find it.
I need to see an accountant.
I’ll add it to the list.
@missred Thx! That is right up my street. I have half a head of cabbage in the fridge right now.
When I was a kid, my mother (whose parents were from Slovakia) made cabbage a lot. I was afraid of a lot of different foods and cabbage was one of them. Maybe it was the smell. Anyway, God bless her, she never made me “clean my plate” or ever eat or even try something I didn’t want to. (Not even one bite.) There were never food fights or even food issues. As a direct result (I believe), I love to cook and will eat just about anything–any vegetable, that is. She liked liver and kidneys -- not my cup of pee tea.
Nut, my online C19 support group is full of people claiming that masks don’t work, they can’t wear one, nobody else is wearing one, they can’t afford one, and why isn’t the govt supplying them for free…there are some threads on there that you just know you shouldn’t read, they’re not good for the blood pressure. I have a few already at home, and a lot of my favourite bands are seeing masks as a new merch idea so I’ll have some stylish ones coming through soon.
I attended a very entertaining storytelling even online yesterday, now I have to go in search of other such events to occupy my time. It’s not the first one I’ve been to, and I’ve since got a few friends interested in it too. They’re not expensive tickets either, so that’s a bonus.
We do collect the golf balls.
Some people were putting them in the trash. I was going to save them and sell them on e-bay. Now I give them to another guy at the park who has enough property to drive golf balls. We got 6 balls yesterday, but there are days we have gathered as many as 18.
Not much to report. Daniel never came over to finish laying down the last piece of roof roll. He was supposed to come Saturday afternoon, but it rained all day. Sunday I finished shoring up the walls by putting another 4x8 sheet of OSB on the lee wall, and a 3-foot wide sheet from the floor to the roof line. I swept out the debris in the shed, and vacuumed the floor. Mrs. L.A. painted the floor with some grey deck paint we had lying about.
Yesterday I started putting things back into the shed. I’m trying to be more organized. We might get to leave early today so as to not have too many people in the orifice when the board members come for a meeting. If we do, then I can go through the three plastic tubs and put tools and things together instead of just being higgledy-piggledy in the bins. I have some French drain pipe that takes up a lot of space. I think a part-time neighbor said something about wanting to do drainage. I’ll see if he wants it.
If my guy doesn’t come over, I think I’ll try to single-handedly put up the last piece of roof roll. I’ll just have to carefully paint the stickum on the overlaps, mop it onto the exposed OSB, and roll it out. How hard can it be, right?
flyboy - just be sure to respect gravity! That’s always my greatest trepidation when it comes to working on a roof. When FCD used to clean our gutters, I’d be a nervous wreck while he was doing the area in the back that is 2 stories up. Now that we’ve hired that chore out, I don’t care any more.
I made a quick run to WaWa to fill my car, then over to the dollar store for a couple of items. Roxy, SIL, and FCD are napping in their respective beds. SIL has work at 5, so he’ll probably leave around 4. And I’ve decided that supper will be a pseudo shepherd’s (cottage?) pie - using tots instead of mashed spuds to top it. The ground beef is thawing and I figure I can start building it around 4.
Till then, ( till then… I am… as I ever was…) Oh, sorry - distracted myself. Anyway, till then, chillage shall ensue.
Last week I had the tile and caulk around/above the bathtub removed and replaced, then had the tub and vanity reglazed. White. Optic white. Blinding white. Mirror white. I swear I can see my reflection in the tub. Everything is so so CLEAN. Next task, have the terlits replaced. They work fine but my water is extremely hard so lovely rust stains abound.
Afternoon all. Shopping trip was made and 24 more rolls of Terlet paper have been procured (shelves here in N. Ali-bama are fully stocked now).
red, Thel, funny you should mention cabbage…while at the store I wanted to pickup a head of lettuce and walked out with…yep, a cabbage (sometimes my three brain cells don’t work so good…). I don’t eat cabbage so I’ll probably toss it.
flyboy, y’all be careful up there.
boo fae, Nut, fools are everywhere…stay safe.
Sari,, the golf fiend need to meet all the dogs from the park (leashed of course) for a little heart-to-heart talk…
Wet one, I need some caulking done around my tub too, was thinking of doing it myself, didn’t know you could hire it done.
And I just inventoried the STPR (Strategic Toilet Paper Reserves) and I have 82 rolls on hand, which at my current usage should take me to Memorial Day of 2021. I trust swampy will approve…
No, no, no… cabbage is wunnerful. In cole slaw (with grated apples, toasted pecans, some sliced scallions) and cooked (but not too long) it’s incredibly sweet.
Debating going to the park this afternoon.
It’s hot out. and I had a big lunch and feel stuffed. I don’t feel much like walking in the heat.
Ripple is annoying the hell out of me though, usually Echo is the bratty one.
He was bratty this morning too. I seldom put the leash on him when we leave the park. He’ll walk up to the truck with me, sometimes he lags behind or runs ahead, but never too far. This morning he walked up to the truck, then refused to get in and took off down to the park and then ran up the hill next to it. Then he ran to the gate and wanted to go back into the park. I had to leave Echo in the truck and go get him.
MetalMouse, I think the golf fiend would do a whole lot better with the dogs than with a bunch of pissed off owners.
Just thought I’d share El Presidente’s email. He sent the rules out a month or so ago, and just sent them again as a reminder.
Hi Gang:
Now that we’ve been back in the office for a while, I’m feeling the need to remind us all of the rules we need to follow. Adhering to these rules is NOT an option and, as a reminder, is a condition of employment. It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe in the COVID thing or you disagree with the Governor’s proclamations. Rules are rules. Follow them or face termination.
Here are the rules:
• Wear a mask when outside of your immediate work space and are within six feet of a colleague. Even if you don’t like wearing a mask, put it on. You don’t have a choice. It’s State law and NACM will follow it.
• Frequently wash your hands.
• Regularly clean your work space (desktops, keyboards, phones, etc), get rid of extraneous stuff. If you’re a slob by nature, I will become your worst nightmare.
• Be fastidious about keeping the kitchen clean. Don’t leave dishes and utensils in the sink. Clean up after yourself.
• Keep eating at your desk to a minimum.
• Leave dogs at home.
• If you are spending time in large groups outside of the office during your own time, you best talk with your supervisor or me about when or if it’s appropriate to return to the office.
Please understand that we have multiple colleagues who have medical issues and are easily susceptible to even simple things like a cold. As an office, we all need to remember this and take every possible precaution to take care of our office community.
I welcome any conversations or questions about this.
Good afternoon/evening everyone! I went for an early morning walk, then showered and went to a hair appointment. My hair looks fabulous, but that won’t last. So here I am, all dolled up and no place to go. I could walk to the mall, as I need to exchange something at Penney’s (which is, thank heavens, open here). Tomorrow I need to walk to Target to get super glue and elastic to replace the stuff on a face mask that’s flimsy and loose. Since I walk everywhere, I try to spread things out, especially on the sunny summer days.
Sari, it’s galling the cops can’t do anything until someone gets hurt. I hope people continue to document him driving balls into the dog park. Seems like it could come in handy. There aren’t security cameras in the park, are there?
Wet One, can toilets be reglazed, or is it cheaper just to get new ones? Cola works wonders on rust stains, but of course that’s merely a temporary solution.
MetalMouse, hope the trip to Kroger was all you dreamed it would be.
Sort went normally, but I did have an extra long post sort nap. Delayed by somebody not knowing whether he wanted to go out or stay inside. Also, somebody else hornked on the kitchen counter.
I dearly, desperately miss wandering through the library and bookstore. I also miss my local Barnes & Noble because they served Starbucks and the best cookies ever. I could go there, but it seems wrong.
I keep mixing up my days. My brain insists it’s Thursday, but it’s Tuesday. My kids are sufficiently occupied doing their own things, as is the husband. I’ve managed to reach a fairly large milestone at work (for most people it’d be no big deal, but it required a lot of negotiation, a lot of prep work and a lot of assertiveness and confidence, none of which sit easy on me). And now I’ve gotten the gift of a scant few heaven-sent moments to post random crap on the dope. It. Is. Magical.
Since SIL has gone back to work, you’d think it would be easier to keep track of days, but he’s on a varying schedule, so not so helpful.
I just popped my pseudo-shepherd’s pie in the oven. We’ll see how it does with tots. It smells good. If nothing else, it’s quick and easy. (Like my men… ) I’s stahvink!!
Home from the park, it was hot.
Ripple, for whatever reason, was laying in the sun.
Echo stayed in the shade with me. She likes laying on the picnic tables anyway, being up higher she can keep an eye on the parking lot to see who is coming.
Nellie, the only cameras are the ones watching the gates. If they even irk.
Tomorrow is daycare day so I have a busy day planned since I won’t have the brats hanging around. I want to take the seat covers out of the truck and wash them. The truck needs a good washing. I like to run the dog bowls through the dishwasher while they are gone. I’ll mail my taxes in tomorrow. I have some shopping I have to do in person, not sure if I’ll get around to it. I also want to rearrange the living room furniture. I have a bag of stuff to go to GoodWill and a huge box of electronics that needs to be recycled. Branches that need to go to the dump. I wonder if I need to buy another pass for the dump?
I’m pretty sure I won’t get all of it done, but I can at least make a dent in it.
