When the plague is over in the MMP

My son did a horrible job of washing the truck.
At least the bird poop is gone and we managed to vacuum up most of the dog hair.
The seat covers are still wet, they can’t go in the dryer and I should have hung them outside instead of inside.
Glad I called best buy before taking out the electronics to be recycled. They take three things a day per family. I suppose I could go every day for a month. Or I can just wait until the city will take them.

They probably will MetalMouse, with the way everything else is going, why not?

Greetings, everyone. I’m past exhausted. Sunshine is not good for me. I got up early and took my babushka cart to the grocery store. Came home, unloaded, put on more sunscreen and big hat, walked to Target to buy elastic. Couldn’t find it. Finally staff directs me to Aisle 32: sewing department consists of three tiny sewing kits and one pack of bonding tape… No problem: big sewing store isn’t too far away.

By now it’s getting hot. There’s a line outside sewing store. People come out at rare intervals. What are they DOING in there? After 30 minutes standing in the sun, I get in. Yippee! Find the notions aisle and…all out of elastic. A customer sends me to the cutting block. Wait 5 minutes, realize I have to get a number. Wait another 20 minutes. Every person ahead of me is getting fabric from many bolts. I have dark visions of sweatshops. Finally I’m next–yippee! and…two of the three staffers abruptly leave. The third is cutting fabric off 9 bolts for a customer. Get my measly 1 yd. elastic, wait in line at checkout. My turn, and… the checker abruptly leaves for lunch. Check myself for running sores, leprosy, bad breath. Nope. Get in another line. My turn. Checker abruptly leaves for lunch.

So I’m home having walked 4.5 miles and getting way too much sunshine. That’s my long and boring tale of woe. Anybody still awake? Hello?

Sari, hope Sah-son took news of his chores well.

Moooom, I miss hearing about Wiggle-Giggle. (Giggle-wiggle?)

MetalMouse, you’d be a cool show-and-tell exhibit. I read once that little kids can watch the same shows repeatedly because they only take in so much each time.

Talker, congrats on getting to be an embarrassment! For about a year, my worse fear was running into classmates when I was with my mom. I guess I wanted them to think I’d hatched from the pages of the Sears catalogue.

Gotti, hope the pituitary news is good.

Well, my AC is apparently not working. The blower is blowing air but the inside temperature is now 81F and it’s probably too late to get the contractor out here. I had them load up the system with freon a couple months ago and paid top dollar for it, so they’d better have an explanation (note: seems like I am getting a little cool air, but that may be the overhead fan I have going). Oh joy.

nellie, just the thought of walking 2.5 miles wears me out, and putting up with those frustrations… And I for one enjoy your stories.

Sari, my local Best Buy took everything I brought in, but it might be a case of the COVID’s there, staff or recycle issues…

FCM, I’m having Mac-n-Cheese right now, but without the veggies.

doggio, now when you start barking at the Invisible Mole People…

gotti, knew that, just funnin’ ya.

OK, dinner consumed, so need to take out the recyclables and stop by Wal-Mart for the day’s 4-item shopping list. Take care all.

nellie, that sounds a lot like the local Joan’s. While I don’t sew much, I do other crafts and the line outside has turned me to da Jungle for more supplies. Sis, who does sew the masks, says that she’s taken to curbside pick up for fabric replenishment.

Et leftover Indian food for supper. It cleared my sinuses for a while. Right now, the seasonal allergies are kicking my butt and the air quality in middle Tennessee is at the orange alert level. I’ve not been out on the bike yet this week as I’d planned to do during my time off. :frowning:
Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and then had some quality cee-mint pond time. Gave that up around two cause it’s HAWT out. Sup got prepared and et. That was the extent of today’s activities. Bein’ retired is a good thing!

Just found out that Irish Storyteller’s 'Rona-denying brother has the 'Rona. Seriously, where is the smacky emoji? This is a situation where only Smacky will do!

I also found out that Seasonal’s (Irish Storyteller’s wife) dad isn’t expected to live much longer. His health apparently fell off a cliff in the last few months.

This is why I’ve been watching a lot of comedies. Real life sucks right now.

MetalMouse, you just clinched the title for World’s Most Lovable Rodent.

Red, that’s the store, all right. Having zero talent in sewing, I’d never been in there before. That place is ginormous! When I saw there was a line, I thought of giving up and just ordering from da jungle, but the mask I was wearing had really saggy elastic, and my other one broke in the middle of the elastic. I wasn’t sure I could wait for a jungle delivery.

The time waiting in line at The Cutting Block (shudder) was put to good use. One woman asked me to read the price on a bolt of fabric. I had to practically jam it in my eye to make it out, but glad to help. Another lady asked me how much I thought a cotton/poly blend would shrink. My brilliant reply: “Uh, more than pure poly, but not as much as pure cotton?” Amazingly, that seemed to satisfy her.

Bark at The Invisible Mole People? That’s crazy talk. I use my .30-06.

Continue normal life, which is basically what I’ve been doing the last four months anyway. We never got locked down here, so other than the masks, the only effects covid had on my life were a) the public library closed for a little over two months, b) cardiac rehab got put on hold for three months, and c) Lady SCAdian’s job went away, as did the housemate’s, so they’ve been home all day. But I’ve been making the usual 2-3 trips to the store every week, using the Gutenberg Project to make up for the loss of library books, and going for longish walks. We don’t go out to eat much except on birthdays, and we got curbside for the two birthdays since March – a fancyish burger place for mine, and Thai for Lady SCAdian’s.

How’d that turn out? Losing a cat sucks, seriously. We had to take our Maine coon for her final trip to the vet a few weeks ago. One of the sweetest cats I’ve ever known, and the pathetic little mew she gave when I set her on the car seat still hurts when I think about it.

You’re not going to let all these people tell you what to do, are you?

A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind.

I like to keep my desk clean and uncluttered.

When it’s all over, I want to hug somebody. Be warned that I might also cry all over them.

I don’t know when was the last time I hugged somebody.

Just remember that nobody’s ever died from falling off a roof.

Of course, a lot of people have died when they hit the ground right afterwards.

Callers were grumps today, and I was already less than thrilled to be there.

On the way home, a couple of minor supply stops. DH currently works pretty near Hades Annex, and his schedule works OK for me to meet him there and finish the journey home by car rather than bus. I haven’t been getting home any faster, really, what with stops on the way home, but at least it’s more comfortable.

The Winco near DH’s current assignment yielded a good price on a big pack of burrito-size flour tortillas, some energy shots he was sure he needed, and something billing itself as a “Personal Protection Set”. This includes 4 pairs of non-latex gloves, 2 disposable masks, and 2 pocket-size bottles of hand sanitizer, for about $8 (IIRC). I bought 2. I’m not sure how useful they’ll really be, I just couldn’t seem to resist. Got the “scent free” version (there were others, such as lavender, which I personally don’t care for).

Smart & Final yielded tonight’s dinner (DiGiorno rising crust pepperoni pizza, since DH craved pizza), some dulce de leche Drumstick ice cream novelties, and a gallon jug of hand sanitizer ($35). With California heading back into lockdown, I seem to be experiencing a resurgence of squirrel-mode supply hunting. Also putting together a Walmart cart for Saturday delivery, and they’re already limiting some items such as paper towels and Kleenex (OK, so I buy the store-brand version). Am getting my limit on those. TP is well supplied here, so not worried about that, but am buying more canned cat food and cat litter (we have plenty of her kibble). Amazon’s also getting an order this weekend (we get paid tomorrow), since I feel like I could use more face shields and there are a couple of other things we get from the Jungle that we could use more of (such as DH’s powdered Sqwincher).

When my lovely wife stepped out of the back room where she was working remotely, she saw that our house cleaner wasn’t wearing a mask. We have been so, so careful and restrictive since late February, often with added complications and expenses to make this happen. To suddenly discover we got an unwitting 4 hour exposure in the house is a real kick in the teeth. Goodbye, house cleaner.

Travel to see family. I haven’t seen my older son in a year, and my younger son 8 months. My wife and I have had to cancel three times as the risk level never dropped for enough for us old folks to risk travel.

My wife might choose going out to eat, as that is her hobby. Well, not really, but we will have to eat out on our way to see the sons…

Morning all!

Bees all present and correct yesterday.

Sadly the axolotl that’s not doing well is looking worse- practically skeletal in fact. It looks like he threw up the worm he got last, and now the other one’s taken a bite out of his tail too. There’s not a whole lot I can do; I definitely don’t have access to a specialist amphibian vet, if such a thing exists. Not the same as losing a proper snugglable pet, but I’ve had him 8 years, from a tiny inch long little tadpole… > :frowning: < Maybe he’ll rally round, I’ll keep trying, but it’s not looking good.

Oh well, I should shower and suchlike; a friend’s video calling later to natter and remotely look at each other’s plants, so I probably shouldn’t wear jammies all day.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 94 and mostly N.O.S. for the day though there could be a slight chance of rain late afternoon. This is true most days as we do tend to get those “popcorn” tstorms mid to late afternoon a couple times a week. No big plans for the day which is fine by me. Maybe some quality cee-mint pond time cause, why not. Sup shall be cubed steak with onion gravy, steamed cabbage, smashed N.O.T., peas and butterbeans with okra, and cornbread. In the mood for some down home cookin’ today.

Nuts you should go all formal and wear a tiara when your friend calls. :princess: Hope the axolotl feels better soonish, poor thing!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

The vet wasn’t able to fit them in (the appt was contingent on their surgery schedule) so they’re taking her this afternoon. Update to follow later.

FCD had been in a lot of pain since his foray to the hangar yesterday. Between all the walking, climbing into and working in an E-2, the heat, and having PT afterwards, he’s really hurting. When he woke at 5 to drug himself, I got up too. So we’ve both breakfasted, plus the critters have been tended.

When it gets a bit more light outside, I’ll take my walk. Then, well, we shall see. Daughter plans to leave my mom’s around noon, so she’ll be home a bit after 2. SIL has to work tonight. I will run to Food Lion at some point - the sweet cherries are on sale again - yum!

Yep, another day in paradise! Happy Thursday!!

Go to a proper bike shop for a fitting. A thick, soft seat is not the answer, it can cause pressure in places you don’t want. The seat should match your sit bones.
Plus your overall position on the bike is a factor, too upright puts more pressure on your hiney.

Back from my walk, and I uninstalled my tracking app when it said I walked .17 miles in 1 hour. Um, no, it was 3 miles. Henceforth, I’ll just run the timer and log my walk by time rather than distance or speed.

As soon as Roxy puts her blocks away, we’re going outside to play. Yay!!
