When the plague is over in the MMP

Afternoon, mumpers! Not much going on here today, irk has been quiet so far, and interview is not for another half hour unless they’re running late (which I fully expect to happen). They’re supposed to be sending me an Excel test but that’s not arrived yet so still have it to look forward to.

Hope you get your AC sorted out, metalmouse, I am not one for heat either and that kind of temperature inside is way too hot for my delicate little self.

mooom hope there is good news on the cat front, and you successfully have stern words with the walking app.

Nut, fingers crossed for the axolotl, hope there’s good news for you too.

Right…off to smarten up, since I am having to face real people in a while!

Happy Thorsday!

It’s an overcast and breezy morning, supposed to get up to 89 today.
Stayed later than usual at the park as some new people had come in and it was nice for the dogs to make new friends.

Today I plan to catch up with stuff around the house. It looks like rain, so we’ll skip taking the branches to the dump. I’lll finish up the laundry that I started yesterday, and rearrange the furniture. I may just take all the recycling to the dump as well, although I’ll have to pay to dump it. It should be about $10 to get rid of all the old electronics, small price to pay to get it out of the house.

@FairyChatMom

You mentioned a while back that FCD was trying to distance himself from pain pills. Has he ever tried Rx Lidocaine patches?

They are TRULY a gift from the gods. The best part is that they aren’t a controlled drug, so you can get refills!

@Sahirrnee

Word of caution: electronics in the landfill are a definite no-no!

The Shed Report

Daniel and his whole fam damnily came over late yesterday afternoon. His 12-year-old son and 14-year-old nephew did the work, and he hammered a few nails when they got the roof roll down. His wife and almost-walking son supervised. I guess they spent an hour or an hour and a half on it. Since today is a commuting day and I had to get up at 0430, I had to go to bet at 2100. They were gone around 2030. When I went to bed, Mrs. L.A. said, ‘You just got in!’

So what’s left? I need to paint the side boards, fascia boards, what’s left of the door, and probably the undersides of the roof sheeting white; stain the new bevel board cladding at the top in the front and the back, or paint them clear; and paint the outside walls of the shed ‘battleship grey’ or similar. (Grey with white trim seems to be trendy nowadays.)

Oh, I don’t remember if I posted this and you can’t just do a ‘Find’ like you could on the old board (you can, but I don’t like it), but the two steps coming off the catio were wet and have a sheen of moss on them. I slipped coming in from the yard and my right arm came down on a paving stone. I have a nice abrasion. At the time, I put a paper towel over it and held it on with a big rubber band to keep blood off of stuff. I took the trash out yesterday and cut a corner of the house too close coming in, and scraped off part of the large scab. I noticed I was getting blood on my shorts as I was ‘supervising’ the work on the shed. So my next project is to take the strip of roof roll that we cut to short, and apply it to the steps.

So there was part of a black roof roll that had been under the shed for decades. We used part of it as a temporary cover pending finishing the roof; and we had about four metres of the white roof roll leftover. I gave those to Daniel. There was also a cheap Chinese multitool in a nylon case I found in the shed. Not the same layout as my Gerber or Mrs. L.A.'s Leatherman, but similar in concept. I gave that to Daniel too.

So! After I finish painting the shed and putting the non-skid surface on the steps, my next project is to climb the ladder again to paint the outside of the patio roof.

Just got some accounts receivable data. In the mail. On 11x15 fan-fold paper. That has to be typed in manually. :roll_eyes:

Good morning, y’all. No walk today as my weather widget said air quality was bad and to stay indoors. Must take care of the lungs.

Yesterday cat EC brought a live bird into the house, something she hasn’t done for years. I’ve learned to listen for unfamiliar noises and behaviors from the animals. When Sweetie (dog) got up from her bed in front of the TV (I have six dog beds scattered around the house in case someone has a Nap Attack. One dog, but the two cats use them, too) and came slinking in to my office,like people who scatter from a bar when a fight seems imminent. Then some chirpy noises from the dining room. Sure enough, EC was after a bird on the floor. I managed to catch it in my hand. There was a little blood on its head, but I don’t think it was mortally wounded, so I took it outside (it bit me-- HARD!-- but that was perfectly understandable, and another indication that it was strong) and let it go. Locked both cats up in the house (I usually leave the back door standing open a bit so they can come and go) for the next several hours. I was a wreck.

I wonder if it’s possible for me to write a paragraph (without the use of parentheses).?

Maybe not.

Now, what year is it where you live?

Morning all. Another hot day in North Ali-bama. Need to stop at the bank and maybe the Loew’s today, but nothing critical. I moved the AC from “Cool” to “Auto” and the cool air came back. No idea why, but I’m comfortable again and that’s good enough.

flyboy, easy on the bleedin’ now. Sounds like most of the work is done, just the touchups now.

Thel, good on what you did, the cat’s probably wondering what it did wrong (cats going to cats).

coach, I’ll probably do that. The local bike shop had no stock on hand when I visited several weeks ago, may give them another try.

FCM, hope FCD is feeling better…an E-2 ain’t all that big, so I imagine he got a little cramped there, and it’s only what–2 months?–since his last operation.

Nut, what’s the normal life span of an axolotl…8 years may be a good run for that species. But hope he recovers.

susan, hope you and wife will be fine, if you were ‘social distancing’ from the cleaner you ought to be ok.

MG, I’m good with hugs. Of course, 'm also 900 miles away…

Alrighty now, need to make myself presentable and get about things. I told myself last night that the refrigerator needs a good cleaning, we’ll see if good intentions can become a good deed (but don’t bet the ranch on it).

Happy Thorsday all.

It’s all over, but the painting. I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t do the roofing material myself but I had no clue how to do it, and didn’t want to do a crap job after all of the work building a new roof structure.

I don’t think they’d help because his pain is from the nerves, not the muscles. The area of the surgery is probably still somewhat inflamed, and when he over-does it, like yesterday, it make the nerve bundle very unhappy. He’s been taking minimal-to-no pain meds lately, but last night, he needed an oxy to get to sleep. I’ll suggest the patch to him, but I’m pretty sure it’s not really an option.

MetalMouse - yeah it’s just over 2 months since the surgery. And not only is the E-2 on the cozy side, there were 4 of them in there. Yeah - crazy…

Just got Roxy down for her nap. Ah, serenity!! :smiley:

Now I’m picturing you typing it all onto a manual typewriter, then sending it off by carrier pigeon to the next person in the chain.

Who then carves stone cuneiform tablets, and straps them to a donkey… :grin:

10-15 years would be normal, so 8 would be pretty young. I’ll go to a pet shop tomorrow and try get a tank divider, so at least the other one can’t take bites out. Big bully.

Anyway, I need to brave the shops; I’m just waiting for a bit 'cos it usually quietens right down after about 7, and I don’t feel like playing dodge the eejit today.

Afternoon all. Loew’s shopping is complete and banking is done, so with it being 92F outside I think I’ll be spending the afternoon inside.

Nut, good luck with the lizard.

OK, a little internet watching and then maybe nappage. All y’all take care.

Frick. Paying for sunshine yesterday with joint pain that started late last night. If only it had been FUN sun exposure.

This too shall pass. Hugs, etc. all around.

I was just on YouTube and I did a search to see if any new Crash Course videos had been uploaded recently. One had. Very recently. It had been uploaded twelve seconds before I did my search.

Daughter has come home, then let with her cat. So I’m wrangling Roxy again.

I just got back from the grocery store. The box of frozen burger patties (80/20, 2#) was $14.99!!! It’s like double what it cost before the plague!! Needless to say, I didn’t buy it. I can buy the ground beef from Aldi and make my own patties for less than half that price.

Not sure what supper will be. Chinese maybe?? We shall see.

@FairyChatMom

My pain is from a pinched nerve in my neck. It’s honest-to-Gawd nerve pain, because I’ve had several nerve ablation procedures to manage it.

The Lidocaine patches work.

~VOW

I’ll mention it to him. Can’t hurt to try, right?

Exactly!

@nelliebly

You could try the Lidocaine patches, too! The NICE part of the Lidocaine patches is that when you ask for them, the dr GIVES the Rx to you, no problem!
