Member of the nuclear navy v. well, frankly, pretty much everything else about me outside of the military.
I, also am a NASCAR fan (with an Enlgish degree, so Shakespeare enthusiast is implied), and I find it very ironic to turn down Darrell Waltrip to listen to John Coltrane or Miles Davis in the backround. My best friend and I find it hilarious.
We also love to drink Keystone Light and listen to the same kind of music.

Anybody that knew me in one life has a really hard time reconciling who I was or what I became. Well, except me…
Also, I absolutely can’t stand TV, but I’m a total BtVS/AtS/FF junkie.
I was reading this thread to my husband, and he said I should nominate myself:
Ph.D. in statistics/avid knitter and Buffy fan
…but I don’t see the contradiction…it is all pattern recognition…

Oh yeah, ,
meat eater/zookeeper
Duh, that one was kinda obvious…
The press thread made me think of another one…
Republican/Americorps*VISTA Alum
For some reason, people have trouble grasping how the two fit together. One of my unpleasant fellow VISTAs for example. After you pester someone for weeks until they tell you who they voted for, don’t give coworkers a hard time about their political leanings a work. Every day. I’m not a huge fan of liberal programs, but I do like the idea of everyone being given a chance to strive for fiscal independence. With that in mind what better program can there be than one that gives the children of working parents (we did our programs with 1 to 6 year olds and their daycare providers) early exposure to reading? Kids who like reading at a young age are probably going to do better in school than if they didn’t, and that’ll help them all their lives.
It isn’t enough to say “people should be self-reliant” and it sure isn’t enough to say " we should help the children." You want people to rely on themselves? Show them how. You want to help them? Don’t just pay lip service to an ideal, get your hands dirty!
